Hand of Fate 2

Defiant Development's excellent deck-building dungeon-crawler, Hand of Fate 2, has just received its second helping of paid DLC, known as The Servant and The Beast.

This latest DLC offering is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One (it will be released on Switch "soon"), and adds a new campaign challenge and companion character to the core game, this time in the form of Veles the Shadow Beast.

"In the depths of despair," reveals Defiant, "you struck a bargain with a strange new ally: your blood for freedom. But now your captors seek to drag you back to their cruel fighting pits, and the monstrous beast you serve demands more and more of you in order to achieve his ultimate goal - revenge against his conspirators and the reclamation of his throne."

Hand of Fate 2

Hand of Fate 2, Defiant Development's excellent deck-building dungeon crawler sequel, is getting its first round of free DLC tomorrow.

Defiant's first free offering comes in the form of a new character to accompany you on your adventures. Upon completing Hand of Fate 2's final encounter, players will unlock The Dealer, the series' mysterious (but loquacious) games master, as a companion character.

Companion characters are new to Hand of Fate 2, and exist to offer support during quests and in combat. The Dealer is able to influence your luck during tabletop quests that require gambits (that is, dice rolls, card picks, and other mini-games), but at "great personal cost". In combat, meanwhile, he'll offer assistance with his powerful ranged magic attacks.

Hand of Fate 2

Update, 28/11/17: Defiant Development has announced that the delayed Xbox One and Xbox One X editions of its excellent deck-building RPG, Hand of Fate 2, will now launch on Friday December 1st. Both were originally due to release alongside the PC and PS4 versions earlier this month, but were held back due to unavoidable delays and issues in testing .

Original story, 4/10/17: Defiant Development has announced that Hand of Fate 2, the sequel to its unusual, thoroughly entertaining deck-building role-playing game, will release on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on November 7.

The original Hand of Fate's main gimmick was that it (mostly) shirked the ultra-immersive trappings of modern video game RPGs in favour of a more literal take on card-based tabletop questing. Most of the game was spent in a dingy chamber, face-to-face with a supremely well-designed digital dungeon master, known as the Dealer, who narrated proceedings with an irresistibly gravelly flamboyance as he laid out cards and flipped them over to dictate the unpredictable direction of your adventure.
