Kalypso Media has revealed that its HD remasters of stealth-tactics classic Commandos 2 and Roman Empire strategy game Praetorians will be coming to PC on 24th January next year.

Commandos 2, which was developed by Pyro Studios and originally debuted in 2001, tasks players with leading a small team of WW2 soldiers - each with their own unique specialisations, ranging from sniper to demolitions expert - across a series of isometric stages in order to complete various open-ended sabotage and assassination missions.

Its brutally challenging blend of strategy and stealth earned it much praise (and elicited many swears, I can attest) on release, and Kalypso Media's HD remaster promises to build on the original with updated graphics and enhanced controls.

Kalypso Media has delved into its shimmering bag of nostalgia and plucked out the first proper gameplay trailers for its upcoming HD remasters of much-loved stealth-tactics classic Commandos 2 and Roman Empire strategy affair Praetorians.

Praetorians and the Commandos series were originally developed by Pyro Studios, and Kalypso successfully acquired the rights to both (along with Pyro's Imperial Glory) last July.

At the time, the Tropico publisher said it planned to make completely new games in each series, while also adapting existing titles for "contemporary technologies and platforms" - which is obviously where its HD remasters come in.

Tropico publisher Kalypso Media has shared first footage of its newly remastered edition of WW2 real-time stealth-tactics classic Commandos 2.

Kalypso acquired the rights to developer Pyro Studios' beloved Commandos IP last July, announcing plans for new games in the series, alongside updates of the original titles. And the first fruits of those efforts have now been revealed in the form of the unfussily titled Commandos 2 HD Remastered.

Commandos, for those unfamiliar, was a brutally challenging strategy series that debuted in 1998. Players are tasked with guiding a small squad of soldiers - each with unique skills and specialisations, including green beret, sniper, and demolition expert - across a series of isometric maps in order to complete various open-ended sabotage and assassination missions.
