Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition

Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate 2 and Icewind Dale Enhanced Editions all just got a significant update.

Patch 2.6 for the enhanced editions of the classic role-playing games makes a number of important changes, including an upgrade to 64-bit that improves system compatibility with modern machines. 32-bit operating systems are no longer supported.

GOG must be in a very generous mood right now. Following on from Tuesday's Witcher 3 giveaway to owners of the game on other platforms, they're now handing out the classic D&D RPG Eye of the Beholder Trilogy for free.

Originally released back in 1991, the Eye of the Beholder Trilogy includes a set of first-person real-time RPGs based on the Advanced Dungeon & Dragons 2nd Edition's game rules. Your band of adventurers will root around the Waterdeep Sewers, Temple Darkmoon and Myth Drannor across all three games - and, in a neat move, you can bring the same party with you in each entry.

Here's what Beamdog founder Trent Oster sent me:

ORIGINAL STORY: Is Beamdog making a new Planescape: Torment game? Not an Enhanced Edition, as the small Canadian studio has done for Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and even Planescape: Torment, but an actual new game. A few new clues suggest so.
