Grab your grappling hook and refill your knife blades: Attack On Titan 2 is now out in English. The sequel to 2016’s game about warteens swinging around giants to stab them in the neck, which is based on an anime and manga, has kinda been out on PC since last week – but only in Japanese. Today, the English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish translations launched as an update. Now we can join in shouting while cutting into ravenous giants who have dopey grins and too many teeth. What if Spider-Man had a jetpack, even more angst, and two giant Stanley knives to hack at the necks of his foes? Well, it’d either be a return to the xXxtreme ’90s spirit for Marvel Comics, or more Attack On Titan. Koei Tecmo today confirmed that Attack On Titan 2 [official site], the sequel to their 2016 swing-o-slasher, will indeed be released on PC. This isn’t a surprise but the open question is now closed. They didn’t state platforms when they announced the game in August, see. But yup, we will again get to launch ourselves into the air to cut down terrifying man-eating babygiants with dopey grins and far too many teeth. (more…)

Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom was one of my favourite games of last year and certainly the biggest surprise. It did a wonderful job of capturing the movement and combat of the anime, which is about jetpack-propelled soldiers with swords and grapples hacking off the limbs of naked giants. Now Koei Tecmo have announced that a sequel is on the way. Attack On Titan 2 [official site] is coming early next year, and the trailer below suggests it’ll hew closely to the plot of the anime’s second season. (more…)

Cos this stuff comes up in comments most every time I run one of these: these charts depict the top ten best-selling games on Steam as accumulated over the week leading up to Sunday just gone. They are not what are the top ten best-selling games at this moment in time, as seen on the front-page of Steam and which are invariably a little different. They come from this here Valve RSS feed. If there is any massaging of figures or weighing of e.g. revenue earned vs copies sold then I do not know of it, but neither can I say for certain that there is not. This is, however, pretty much all that Steam ever lets slip about what’s going on, though you can look to the guesstimates on Steam Spy if you want to try and drill down further into actual figures.

So: Steam’s ten biggest games last week. Well, nine and a half. Deus Ex has been dethroned already.

Occasionally I used to think, “Wouldn’t it be cool to play a modern Spider-Man game that let you swing and swoop over and between buildings in a city?” No longer. My itch has been scratched. Attack On Titan: Wings of Freedom is basically Spider-Man vs. Godzilla, and it is unexpectedly great.

I am ill today. It’s my guts, you see. My Goddamned guts>. Despite my imminent death by a thousand craps, I am duty-bound to bring you the regular round-up of what sold best on Steam last week. Think of me, won’t you, as you wonder how many humans who don’t yet own Counter-Strike: Global Offensive there can possibly be in the world, and lament the total absence this week of anything we might traditionally deem to be ‘indie.’ … [visit site to read more]

I love horror films. Can’t get enough of ’em. Whether it’s a splatterfest of guts and giblets, or a brainful of anxious creeping dread, I’ll generally find something to enjoy. I’ve only ever watched one episode of Attack on Titan [official site] though, because something about it makes me feel intensely uncomfortable. It’s not just that its anime, it’s the sight of characters screaming and bleeding as they vanish down the throat-pipe of giant, mindless, occasionally-skinless humanoids. I guess I have a primal fear of being chewed up and then slowly digested inside a massive man’s gut. Weird.

Anyhow. The Attack on Titan game [official site] is out today. I will not be playing it.
