Big news! The Unreal multiplayer build has now reached the closed alpha version! For the last two months we have been testing the entire game under real multiplayer conditions in order to provide a smooth gameplay experience upon release!

A lot has happened during this last and very busy half year: We have added a lot of new rolling stock, various industries and freight types, realtime landscape editing features, and a stunning 16km^2 open world map. Also we have been growing as a team - alongside with our playerbase on Steam and our fanbase on the Discord server counting now 400+ members.

We have built a completely new game in the Unreal engine with more content than ever. Because of the sheer size of the update and the countless hours spent working on it i also have decided to start a professional carrer in this industry as a game developer.

As a result we have decided to release the Unreal version as a brandnew, separate game:

RAILROADS ONLINE!

Besides all the mentioned features above RAILROADS Online! also comes translated into 10 different languages for all railroading fans around the world!
Therefore we will not overwrite „American Railroads“ - keeping it as the nice little Unity game for you to enjoy.

We are truely very grateful for your continuing support and would like to thank you for sticking with us for so long by offering you a special 10% discount in the first week upon release!

Everything regarding the release of RAILROADS ONLINE! will be posted in the following days right here as we are going to launch our first trailer very soon! There is still a lot of work ahead of us but we are confident that we will provide you the railroading experience you all are hoping for.

Hello everyone!

Long time no see :) But we haven't been sleeping ;) I'd like to show you some of the latest progress on American Railroads!

A new locomotive has been implemented. It's a 2-8-0 Consolidation by Thomas, complete with tender and cab controls!


Cab with interactive controls:


The tender. We have put a lot of effort in a historically correct appearance on this one!


Headlight doors can be opened which allows you to light the burner


Sanding tower: refill your locomotive's sand domes here.


Water tower: The controls have been completely overhauled. You can now also swivel the spout left and right.


The mine, done by Kitsune, has been implemented. Pull the chutes and load your gondolas!


Iron ore.


Trestles splines can now be dynamically placed just like different sets of track on the terrain.

Also: A ton of coding, but that's not that interesting to show ;)

Next up: Saving and loading is going to be implemented. Also we have a bunch of new cars in stock, waiting to be added to the game ;)

Hello everyone,

just a quick update on the progress in unreal. I'll let the screenshots speak for itself ;)































Also our first multiplayer character "conductor" is now fully replicated over the network with animations like walking running and jumping along with fully supported 1st and 3rd person controls!

Hello everyone!

recently we have been working on some interesting stuff you might want to check out!
The assistant modelers, Kitsune and Thomas have created some excellent new models that will be implemented in the coming updates!

Geared locomotive: Heisler
Based on the West Side Lumber Company No.3, this wood burning engine will soon handle some serious freight!




There will be 3 smokestack variants and an option for a wooden platform and storage boxes.


The V2 steam engine:


As usually the cab comes with a lot of interactive levers and gauges for first person control


The entire drive train will be fully animated


Mine: Just like the logging camp mines will produce ore that needs to be transported!
The ore will be loaded via chutes into the gondolas:


Mining gondolas: Perfect for transporting huge loads of ore from the mines:




Also there is some progress regarding multiplayer:
The first primitive vehicle on a spline controlled track has been successfully tested in Unreal Multiplayer on a local server:

update 1.5 is finally here!
It is quite a jump from the last version so here are the major changes:



First person controls:
Grab some firewood, throw it in the boiler and explore Pine Valley in the first person perspective! Move around freely, steer and control your vehicles manually with fully animated bars, regulators and gauges



Brand new cars, buildings, vehicles and tools:
Update 1.5 adds not only many new vehicles but also more realism: vehicles require regular maintenance, water and fuel in order to stay operational




Build your own railroad:
Grab a pickaxe and start laying your own track! Invest in new equipment and place your utilities where they are needed




Customize your rolling stock:
Buy new equipment and choose your individual options, numbers, company and vehicle names!



New Roundhouse and facilities:
Buy and upgrade a engine house to service your vehicles with increased repair speed!



Tutorial
The built in ingame tutorial pages will give you additional information



Improved graphics and physics simulation
New lighting, texture and post processing effects like vignetting and depth of field add a more natural look. Also the physics implementation has been fundamentally overworked to improve stability and framerate

Finally the new steam event manager beta is working properly and i can show you the latest piece of machinery - the new Climax locomotive!



It's basically a two cylinder engine...



with a gearbox and bevel gears to drive the axles. Each axle will recieve the same amount of torque.



It will be available with a diamond- cylinder- or...



cabbage smokestack.



Also there is enough space for water and firewood!



It also features a backup light for pulling operations.



The perfect machine for big logging hauls!
