Limb-lopping sword ‘em up Chivalry: Medieval Warfare rather impressed Adam, and it seems like it’s been popular with you guys, too, because Torn Banner are toasting their success with a new patch, a Q&A video (below) and the promise of free updates for the game in the near future, fleshing out things like spectator mode. Relatedly, they’re talking about pushing towards e-sports support, even. The patch already did a lot of work with the issues people had raised, and you can see the the full patch notes here. (more…)

In no conceivable way can this be referred to as

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is an extremely violent pageant of limb-lopping, a first-person deathmatch game as bloody as any I’ve ever played. For several days now I have carved my way through the ranks of my enemies and now, upon this scroll, I do declare that this is Wot I Think(eth).>

I would also like to point out that we live in a world where a prominent medieval multiplayer game lacks horses, but the new Call of Duty has them. Ponder this, and ponder it well.

And also an arm. And a leg. And a head, if you’re feeling especially generous/decapitated. Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, Torn Banner’s claimant to the suddenly contested online thwack ‘n’ slash throne, is now riding onto the battlefield. And by the looks of things, it means business. And by “means business,” I mean wow. I’ve been enjoying War of the Roses despite a number of flaws, but I might give it a break this evening to stare intently as Chivalry’s download bar fills up on Steam. I’m exaggerating, of course, but it really does look quite impressive. Peruse the limb-severing carnage with your eyeballs – which are hopefully still attached to your body in some form or another – after the break.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare - Valve
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is now available on Steam!

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is a first-person slasher with a focus on multi-player. Featuring competitive online combat that seeks to capture the experience of truly being on a medieval battlefield. Inspired from the intensity and epicness of swordfighting movies such as 300, Gladiator and Braveheart, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare aims to bring that experience to the hands of a gamer.

The game is skill-based and controls like a FPS, but instead of guns and grenades, players are given swords, shields, maces, battleaxes and longbows. Set in a fictional, yet gritty and realistic world, players will fight in fast paced online battles besieging castles, raiding medieval villages and fighting for glory in the arena with up to 32 players.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare

Get out your swords and shields, today's the day that Chivalry: Medieval Warfare finally comes to Steam. We've been following this game for a while now, and Luke's even spent a good chunk of time playing the beta. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the final game works, and how good the mouse-driven first-person swordplay really is. (Though, as the trailer above is sure to note, you can also play Chivalry in third-person.

Between this and Dishonored, it's been a heck of a month for good first-person swashbuckling. I'm looking forward to digging in to the game and lopping off some heads.
