Street Fighter V

Street Fighter 5 got a surprise new character earlier this week - and combo masters are already doing incredible things with him.

Kage, a twist on the Evil Ryu character from previous Street Fighter games, is a flashy, high-damage, combo-heavy character who has some unique abilities that make for particularly cool-looking strings.

Street Fighter combo master Desk has already put together a couple of awesome Kage combo videos - and they do not disappoint. In the videos below we see combos that involve air dashes (Kage's V-Trigger 2 gives him a ground teleport that, in the air, is an air dash) to extend juggle combos beyond what we're used to seeing in Street Fighter 5. There are also cool-looking combos that involve teleporting this way and that while Kage's opponent is in the air. And I like all the wall bounce combos!

Capcom has released a new character for Street Fighter 5 - and he's basically Evil Ryu.

He's not called Evil Ryu, though. He's called Kage (pronounced car-gay), "the Embodiment of the Satsui." Think Ryu with red eyes, fangs and a couple of cute little horns.

According to Street Fighter lore (yes, Street Fighter has a lore), Ryu constantly battles to control the Satsui no Hado. After the events of Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition, Ryu overcomes the Satsui no Hado's temptation, preventing Evil Ryu from ever seeing the light of day.

Street Fighter 5's in-game ads went live this week - and they make a mockery of the series' famous character design.

According to Capcom, this sponsored content appears in-game "to remind you about costumes, bundles and the Capcom Pro Tour". Well, it certainly does that.

I'm not too bothered about the "supported by" image you get when a match is loading. This doesn't feel intrusive and doesn't mess about with any Street Fighter design I care about at least. It looks like this:

The career of legendary 33-year-old South Korean fighting game pro Lee Seon-woo, better known as Infiltration, appears to be in tatters after he was kicked off his esports team following a domestic abuse investigation.

Following a separate investigation by Street Fighter developer Capcom, the five-time Evolution champion pulled out of the remainder of the 2018 Capcom Pro Tour and the entire 2019 Capcom Pro Tour.

Esports team Panda Global published the results of its investigation into domestic abuse allegations this week, following reports Infiltration had battered and tortured his ex-wife.

One of the most famous fighting game players in the world is on the brink of seeing his career left in tatters after he was accused of disturbing domestic violence.

Legendary 33-year-old South Korean fighting game pro Lee Seon-woo, better known as Infiltration, reportedly battered and tortured his ex-wife, Kim Hyang Lee. Reports indicate Kim Hyang Lee recorded one incident and transcribed it so it could be used as evidence in an ongoing Korean court case.

This information emerged via an anonymous reddit account that was at first dismissed by some. But now Panda Global, the esports team Infiltration is a member of, has announced the Street Fighter expert will not compete in the Street Fighter 5 Capcom Pro Tour premier tournament at the Tokyo Game Show this weekend as it conducts an investigation. Infiltration was expected to star at the event, which takes place in Tokyo.

Capcom has announced new Darkstalkers costumes for Street Fighter 5.

With no new Darkstalkers game on the horizon, this may well be the closest fans will get to playing a new game in the horror-flavoured fighting game series for a while.

The costumes see Chun-Li turned into Morrigan, Ed dressed as Demitri and Menat cosplaying as Felicia.

Two new DLC characters hit Street Fighter 5 today: G and Sagat.

G, nicknamed the Man of Mystery and self-proclaimed President of the World, is a new character who wants to unify the world as its leader. According to his official blurb, to do this he wants to use social media. That sounds like a silly idea, but, well, it's worked for some, hasn't it?

G is unique in that he can absorb power from the earth to increase his Presidentiality level up to three. The higher it is, the more powerful his special moves are. However, if he's knocked down, the Presidentiality level goes down.

Street Fighter has a new world champion - and he's from the UK.

Benjamin "Problem X" Simon won Street Fighter 5 at Evo - the world's biggest fighting game tournament - defeating legendary Japanese player Hajime "Tokido" Taniguchi in grand finals.

Playing as M. Bison, Problem X beat Akuma player Tokido 3-0 after the Japanese reset the bracket (Evo is a double elimination tournament).

On 25th June Street Fighter 5 gets a big new update - and part of that is the addition of loot boxes.

The loot boxes have to do with Survival Mode and a new system called Fighting Chance. Menat, one of the playable characters, has opened up a shop to tell you your fortune. Spend 500 Fight Money, the in-game currency, and you get a Fantasy Fortune Reading, which Menat helps you decipher. These readings are the loot box: they contain multiple items, including some exclusive to Fighting Chance.

Items include Battle Goods, which increase your chance of completing Survival Mode, new colours only available from Fantasy Fortune Readings, classic pieces of Street Fighter art from across the series, and, to the consternation of the Street Fighter community, rare costumes only available via Fantasy Fortune Readings.

Capcom's released the first gameplay of Blanka in Street Fighter 5. He's available to download from 20th February.

The fighting game's next DLC character is one of the original eight world warriors who starred in Street Fighter 2. The video, below, shows his Street Fighter 5 incarnation retains the electricity-based attacks Blanka is famous for. You can mash a punch button for Electric Thunder, and charge for rolling attacks.

Blanka has plenty of attacks which hit his opponent from behind, so he should have decent mix-up potential (a command grab called Wild Hunt, which sees Blanka leap forward, will help here). He can hop forward quickly, landing on the other side of a falling or downed opponent. And the video shows how Blanka is able to jump over and slide under projectiles. I get the impression he'll be a tricky character to master, a fun character to play as and an annoying opponent, which is just how Blanka should be.
