War Thunder - War Thunder Commander

  • The maximum number of players on the defending team has been reduced from 16 to 12. We’ve seen your feedback and looked at the statistics of the SEAD event and have seen that it is often too difficult for the attacking team to achieve victory. Unlike World War mode (the mode that these test missions are developed for), where the starting conditions are dictated at the operational level, in this event the starting conditions are predetermined and can be adjusted.
We hope to make gameplay more balanced and interesting for both sides, giving the attacking team more opportunities to successfully complete their objective and expect that the above change will allow both teams to enjoy this event more. Thanks for playing so far and leaving your feedback!

Today, we’ve rounded up and will be going over some of the bug fixes and improvements that we’ve made to the game today and over the past few weeks. If you’d like to catch up on every fixed bug, then be sure to check out the changelog section on our website.

Feel free to leave your feedback on this update here.

If you’ve found a bug that you’d like to report, you can do so on our community bug reporting platform.

Full synchronization

After a small update, a desynchronization issue that caused a difference in what the player saw and how the server assessed the situation, was discovered in the game. This problem affected ground vehicles, and the faster vehicles moved the more noticeably the server and client readings had discrepancies. We received several reports detailing this problem and want to thank everyone who submitted one! This issue was fixed shortly after it was discovered.

Interface Improvements
We’re always working on improving the user interface to make it a better experience for all players. We’ve now increased the number of players that you can add as friends and to your blacklist to 300.

In the chat menu in the hangar, the message delay is now separate for each chat, and the inactive “send” button displays a timer showing how long it will take until the next message can be sent. If your message is marked as spam by the system and not sent, you’ll now be notified about it and a timer will start until you can send it again.

Now let’s talk about some changes to the achievement menu in the player profile. First up is the names of operations in the Pages of History and other similar sections. We’ve made some visual improvements to them, long titles now fit on one line instead of being wrapped. We’ve also made it so that for events, you can now click on the Mark of distinction task from the main event section to go straight to the corresponding task.

We’ve also fixed a bug that prevented you from sending chat messages in the Custom Battles lobby screen, and made a ton of other UI fixes and improvements. Be sure to check out the full changelog for them all!

Faster Replenishment of Scout vehicles

Capturing points not only brings your team closer to victory, but also allows you to replenish your ammunition right in the heat of battle. You can also replenish reconnaissance vehicles that were used too, such as Scout UAVs in ground battles and scout Hydroplanes in naval battles. To ensure that players don’t have to wait too long for scout vehicles to return to service, we’ve halved the time it takes to replenish them in Realistic Battles to 45 seconds (was 90 seconds).

Small objects that caused bumps

There was an issue where ground vehicles might behave weirdly when driving over small destructible objects like tables, chairs and fences. These objects should have turned into dust when run over and not affect a ground vehicle’s movement in any way — but instead, vehicles would sometimes ‘bump’ upwards. This has been fixed.

Issues when minimizing the game
There was a bug for PC players who minimized the game but left their ground vehicle driving in battle. If the game was minimized for a longer period of time while the vehicle was moving in battle, the turret rotated backwards, where upon tabbing back in, the turret was aimed in the wrong direction. This bug has now been fixed!

That’s not all
You’ll find the full list of improvements in separate update notes. Here’s some more: the sound of the nuclear siren no longer lags significantly behind the spawning of the nuclear weapon carrier, the principle of unconditional detection of enemies in ground vehicles has been reworked, and the hint about the enabled cyclic switching of radar targets no longer appears when using the horizontal targeting axis of the radar.

War Thunder - Blitzkrieg Wulf

Get your pilot helmets on, it’s time for a new challenge! Today, we’re presenting the “Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses” (SEAD) event — a new asymmetrical game mode where one team takes on the role of the attackers, and the other team defends strategically important S-75 SAM positions.

Take part in this two day event and test out some new mechanics that we’re working on!

When: From April 22nd (11:00 GMT) until April 24th (11:00 GMT).
You can access the event from the hangar through: Events & Tournaments -> Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses

How the event works

The S-75 and Shilkas are primary targets!
The defending team in this event must protect AI controlled Soviet S-75 surface-to-air missile systems. Helping to defend these systems are AI controlled ZSU-23-4 “Shilka” anti-air vehicles. Both of these potent air defense systems pose a deadly threat to the attacking team — they’ll need to learn the terrain, come up with approach tactics and use the right selection of weaponry to be successful.

Roles and Objectives

Attacking Team
Your mission is to destroy all S-75 SAM positions at all costs! Not only do the attackers have aircraft, they also have helicopters, opening up new possibilities for stealthy attacks and pinpoint missile strikes. The F-4E Phantom II serves as the primary strike force, equipped with rockets and bombs for ground targets, along with air-to-air missiles for engaging enemy aircraft. The AH-1F is armed with ATGMs and rockets, capable of providing more precise air-to-ground fire to take out the air defense missile systems.

Defending Team
Your mission is to defend the S-75 positions from the attacking enemy! Coordinate your actions with other players and build a layered defense to counter the attacking team. You’ll be equipped with the MiG-21bis, armed with air-to-air missiles to repel the enemy.

Event Features
Here are some key event features that are useful to know:
  • The gameplay in this event is asymmetrical. One team attacks and the other defends. This requires you to adapt to different roles and strategies.
  • There’s no markers in this mode, so you’ll not see enemy markers on the map. Use your aircraft’s systems and piloting skills to find and destroy the enemy.
  • Each player has 3 respawns, giving both teams the flexibility to experiment with tactics, and giving the attacking players the ability to use different types of vehicles.
  • For the first time in an air mode, the attacking team has access to both helicopters and planes, offering unique opportunities in coordinating attacks to take enemies out from afar and support friendly planes.
  • All players that have an aircraft of rank V or higher in their hangar can participate in the event.
  • The vehicles that you’ll use in the event are automatically assigned and don’t need to be purchased.
  • Vehicles have the spawn cost in SL, which will be refunded if the plane is not destroyed when the mission ends or if you exit the plane in the safe exit zones. The amount of refunded SL depends on the condition of the aircraft.
  • Safe exit zones become available for aircraft once all the weapons of a certain type have been expended. If you have spawned in with air-to-ground weaponry, you will need to use all of it, air-to-air missiles are not taken into account, however, if you have spawned in with just air-to-air missiles, you will need to use all of them.
  • You’ll be able to earn research points and Silver Lions by taking part in the event.

Why not in Random Battles?
Asymmetrical modes are not for everyone, and they have their own specific approach. As players queue in random battles with their own custom lineup, if they were to randomly encounter a game mode like this, they may incidentally have an ineffective selection of vehicles that aren’t suitable for a more specialized mission like this one. “Suppression of Enemy Air Defense” requires certain vehicles and weapons for interesting and effective gameplay. In addition, the difficulty of the event (due to the presence of S-75s and a large number of very effective Shilkas) may be too high for random battles, where players often use a variety of vehicles to complete more general objectives.

“Suppression of Enemy Air Defense” is just the beginning!
We’re using this event as a testing ground for ideas that we plan to use in future large-scale modes. This scenario will be one of the missions in the “Aerial Warfare” operations, one of which will feature in the future in World War Mode. In Aerial Warfare, players will only have access to aircraft (ground vehicles will be AI), and the focus will be on aerial combat and the completion of strategic objectives. We’ll tell you more about Aerial Warfare at a later date!

Developers note: We would like to note that ARMs (Anti-Radiation Missile) of the period reflected in the event were not as effective in many cases compared to their more modern counterparts. In some situations, they would simply not hit their intended targets without any mistakes from the pilot, and it would not be very clear to the player as to why the missile has missed. For this event, the combination of early SAMs vs aircraft with unguided weaponry works well and provides counteracting gameplay, so ARMs won’t be featured in it.

We understand many of you wish to see ARM weaponry, and it is part of our longer term considerations, particularly in the modern gameplay era, however it is still too early to go into further detail about this right now. So stay tuned!

Don’t miss the chance to participate in this unique event from April 22nd to April 24th! Make sure to prepare for intense air battles that require teamwork and excellent piloting — see you in the sky!

Aircraft
  • A bug that caused holding down the “Fire flares” control to block the use of the “Fire chaff” control and vice versa has been fixed.
  • A bug that caused the point of interest to disappear when setting it through the Optical Seeker View has been fixed.
  • Seeker FoV reduction for AAM IR seekers now happens after locking onto the target and not after launch. (Report).
  • A bug where “Reset Radar/IRST direction to boresight” did not function correctly on radars with a vertically asymmetric scan area has been fixed. (Rеpоrt).
Ground Vehicles
  • A bug that caused tank turrets to rotate backwards if the game stayed minimized for a long time while moving in battle has been fixed. (Report).
Sound
  • A bug that caused the player in an aircraft to sometimes hear ground vehicles regardless of the distance has been fixed. (Report).
  • A bug that caused the nuke siren to sometimes start playing much later after the nuke-carrying aircraft spawned in has been fixed. (Report).
Matchmaking
  • The rules for calculating the average Battle Rating in Air Arcade Battles have been simplified. Previously, the rounding of the rating could depend on the number of aircraft in the crewslots when a player used fewer than three aircraft. For more details on matchmaking based on average Battle Rating, please check out the article on the Wiki.
Locations and Missions
  • Japan — a bug that caused the building in the E6/E7 grid squares (on capture point C in “Domination”) to sometimes disappear has been fixed.
Interface
  • The notification about enabled radar cyclic target switching is no longer displayed on the input from the “Horizontal Radar/IRST target cue control axis”. (Report).
  • A bug that caused the nicknames of some players in replays to change to the nickname of the player who was watching the replay has been fixed. (Report).

Amiens (France)
T-44 (FM) (USSR)
A Premium Sub-chaser for France at Rank III
A Premium Medium Tank for the USSR at Rank IV
During the First World War, France decided to use a special type of small vessel, the Aviso — a heavily armed submarine hunter disguised as a small merchant ship — to fight enemy submarines. The class was named Arras but the lead ship of the class was Amiens, laid down in La Saint-sur-Mer in 1918. This ship is one of the heaviest coastal vessels in the game, with an arsenal of 138.6 mm guns and twin 37 mm autocannon mounts, complemented by a 75 mm universal cannon and small machine guns.
The development of a new Soviet tank capable of countering German Tigers and Panthers began back in 1943. Despite the start of production in 1944, the T-44 did not take part in any battles during the Second World War, but remained in service with the Soviets until the early ‘70s. The first production vehicles were distinguished by a driver port above the front armor plate and different turret armor. They were armed with a 85 mm D-5T cannon.

Vehicles

MGB-75 (Great Britain)

Armed with a potent 40 mm automatic cannon at the front and two 20 mm cannons at the back, the MGB-75 features a great top speed of 78 km/h, allowing it to capture points in good time. It also includes depth charges and 7.72 mm machine guns.

I-153P (USSR)

The I-153P is a small yet deadly biplane, characterized by its outstanding turn time. Armed with two 20 mm ShVAK cannons in the nose for taking out aircraft, it can also fire ROS-82 and RBS-82 rockets and 50 kg bombs for taking out enemy tanks.

M3A3 (1st PTG) (China)

During the Second World War, the M3A3 was used under a Chinese-American lend-lease program. A fast light tank, the M3A3 features a 37 mm cannon that can fire AP and APCBC shells. It’s lightly armored and can utilize its speed and shoulder-stop stabilizer to its advantage.

USS Moffett (USA)

USS Moffett features four turrets housing 5 inch cannons with an excellent rate of fire. Also armed with air defensive capabilities, USS Moffett features a top speed of 69 km/h and has its main ammo storage below the waterline.

Hs 129 B-2 (Romania) (Italy)

Romania was one of the primary operators of the Hs 129 B-2 during the Second World War. It can also swap out this cannon for a 30 mm MK 103 instead, and also comes with 20 mm cannons and four 50 kg bombs.

KW II 754 (r) (Germany)

During the Second World War, Germany captured some KV-2s and used them in combat. Its devastating 152 mm cannon can take out any enemy at its rank using SAPCBC or HE shells. Make sure to find somewhere to hide once firing, as its reload speed is upwards of 43 seconds!

Changes reflected in patch notes are formed by taking reactions and requests of the community from the bug reporting service, forums and other official platforms into account. Bug fixes and changes are implemented in order of importance, for example a game-breaking bug will be worked on and implemented sooner.
