Participants have just 6 hours to build a playable map based on a theme revealed at the start of the contest. At the end of the 6 hours, all submissions to the contest will be voted on by the community!

Back in November, we launched Castle Catastrophe, Witch It's 4th map contest! Following the release of 200+ new creative mode structures and material overrides, participants now had more creative options than ever while building their contest entries. 🏰

"Castle Catastrophe" was the contest theme - participants were tasked with creating a castle-themed map that has been struck by a disaster. Map creators had the freedom to interpret this theme however they like, while remaining true to it's core intent. As a result, we had received arguably our most unique, diverse, and incredible selection of entries we've ever had the privilege of judging! 🤯

Each winning map will be implemented into Witch It in our next content update in the following weeks. Each winner will shortly receive the Grand Architect's Helmet, a Witch It Steam Key, two DLC sets of their choice, their name added to the description of a Creative Mode structure (revealed soon), and the outstanding "Grand Architect" title within our community! 🌟

We decided these winners based on a range of different factors. For us, it was important each winning map was visually pleasing and unique from other entries, but a primary factor for us was ensuring each map was suitable to be played on for potentially thousands upon thousands of rounds! Map size was a paramount factor in judging, and while many entrants made beautiful maps, only a select few creators really got the balance between aesthetics and gameplay just right. In addition, we had introduced a rule that meant an individual person could not take multiple winning spots in Castle Catastrophe - which we felt gave new creators an opportunity to shine through... and that they did! 🏆

Spellbound Town is Pinoue Banana's first ever map contest entry, as well as their first ever published map on the Witch It workshop - but don't let that fool you! The map is undeniably impressive, featuring a beautiful town transformed by the evil tree at it's centre. Explore and hide within a mix of decorated interiors and vast open areas, but beware of the mysterious corruption slowly reclaiming the town brick by brick... 😈






"The icy north wind came and captured Ingeborgs Wandering Retreat" [Full Story]

Obscura secures her first ever map contest win with Ingeborg's Wandering Retreat - a familiar, yet outstanding map packed full of intricate detail! The map features a huge living castle that has been frozen in place by an enraged witch. Use this opportunity to climb inside the castle, and explore it's vast hallways and elaborate rooms before the hunters catch you - or hide within the surrounding icy landscape! 🥶

Otsiro Crest Castle is fri's second winning map following Niemeyer Legacy's memorable win back almost 5 years ago. A mystical witch anomaly has found it's way through the walls of Otsiro, causing devastating roots to tear through it's grand towers and dramatic environment in and around the castle. This map is the largest of the winners, but some well-placed chickens paired with a mobility skill will cover ground a lot quicker than you think! 🐔

Woodcastle Cat-astrophe is Anghely's debut map to the Witch It workshop, and a light-hearted yet skilfully executed take on the contest theme! Explore a giant cat tower home to the witches' beasts and pets, and carefully climb it to locate the best hiding positions. Hide among the unfortunate troll-cats that have been turned into stone by the sun, and beware the hunters who have laid siege on this spectacular castle! Shout-out to CyaniStella, Freya and Haderman! 🐈





With the recent introduction of hundreds of new structures and material overrides, it came as no surprise to us that the quality of submissions would grow even further than previous contests. The effort and attention to detail put into every submission has been absolutely outstanding, and we are so grateful for each and every one of our map creators! 💎

Adorn yourself in two ssslithering new items - the Lucky Snake Head for hunters, and the Wood Snake Headpiece for witches! 🐍


Opening Witch It during the Chinese New Year 2025 event will grant you 30 "Fireworks"!
A Firework contains a random Chinese New Year item (including CNY items from previous years), which can only be opened by combining them with "Gunpowder". 💥

To earn Gunpowder, fill up the Item Cauldron with 250 experience points. You can see the item cauldron fill up at the end of the round, on the level up screen.

Gunpowder has a 50% chance of being earned on any Official server once the item cauldron is filled. If you're lucky enough to earn one, head back to the main menu and press 'Chinese New Year' to combine it with a Firework! 🎆

Every Chinese New Year item earned through Fireworks are tradable and craftable even after the event is over. If you use up all your FIreworks, you can craft more by combining 5 Gunpowder together!
Note: Gunpowder can only be obtained in Official servers.

Opening Witch It during the Winterdream 2024 event will grant you 40 "Filled Boots"!
A Filled Boot contains a random Winterdream item (including Winterdream items from previous years), which can only be opened by combining them with "Cinnamon Star". ⭐

To earn Cinnamon Stars, fill up the Item Cauldron with 250 experience points. You can see the item cauldron fill up at the end of the round, on the level up screen.

Cinnamon Stars have a 60% chance of being earned on any Official server once the item cauldron is filled, but must be earned on specific Winter maps: Snowbreeze, Fiskersted, Northern Whispers, Wardwell Wintry or Singing Sanctuary. If you're lucky enough to earn one, head back to the main menu and press 'Winterdream Festival' to combine it with a Filled Boot!

Winterdream 2024 items have a 25% chance of being crafted when combining a star and a boot. Every Winterdream 2024 item earned through Filled Boots are tradable and craftable even after the event is over. If you use up all your Filled Boots, you can craft more by combining 5 Cinnamon Stars together! 🥾
Note: Cinnamon Stars can only be obtained in Official servers.

You can also receive the new items through:
- Random drops from filling up the item cauldron at the end of a round.

You must tell their stories one last time, before they disappear forever!


Welcome to Castle Catastrophe, our 4th Official Map Contest!

Castle Catastrophe - You must build a castle that has been struck by a disaster!

Your map must feature a castle within your playable area.
Build an interior or exterior, or a mixture of both!
You can design the entire castle, a portion of the castle, or even just a single room or courtyard - it's up to you.

Additionally, your map must feature a catastrophe.
How you interpret this is up to you! Get creative and brainstorm your ideas before starting them.
Is your catastrophe ongoing, or are you building the ruins following the disaster?
Is your catastrophe a natural disaster, or could it be the work of magic?

We are implementing multiple winning submissions into Witch It as Featured Maps, which can be played on both official and custom servers.
While we have no particular number of winners in mind, the winning maps in Castle Catastrophe will be replacing a number of previously featured maps.
All winning maps will receive baked lighting, and will be played for years to come. Many of our previous Featured Maps have now been played way over 10,000 times!


Each contributor in a winning map will also receive:

🔹 Two DLC sets of their choice!

📖 Lore Award: Awarded to the entry with the best lore.
To win this award, write a backstory about your map and post it in the description of your workshop page!

💥 Catastrophe Award: Awarded to the entry with the most unique catastrophe idea.
To win this award, build a castle catastrophe that is distinctive and unexpected - the most unique idea will prevail!

The winner of each award will receive a DLC set of their choice, as well as their name added to the description of a Creative Mode structure!

2️⃣ Upload your map to the Steam workshop!
3️⃣ Upload at least one screenshot onto your workshop page!

By participating, you are agreeing that we can use your creation as an official featured map in Witch It.

📚 Are you still unsure what to do? View our detailed participation guide here!

🔸 You must build on an empty map containing no structures (interior, town day, island day, town night, ice day, graveyard night, magical forest, desert day, desert sunset, jungle day, or dream valley day)!
🔸 If you wish to build on a default map containing pre-made structures, you must build out-of-bounds!
🔸 You can submit as many maps as you want, but remember: quality over quantity.
🔸 You can either make your map solo, or collaborate with up to 3 other creators - all creators must be marked a contributor to your workshop item!
🔸 You cannot enter using other creator's maps that you are not an original contributor on (we will check for stolen work).
🔸 You must design an entirely original map - it cannot be based on an existing map from another game!
🔸 Offensive/NSFW content is strictly prohibited!
🔸 All users can enter, including Grand Architect and staff members. Users with ongoing bans are not eligible to win.
🔸 Absolutely no AI-generated content (for graphics/screenshots/lore). Be creative!

⚠️ Fairness Change: One creator cannot win the main prize twice in a single map contest - only your best map will be chosen, the rest will not be eligible! This change does not apply to the additional prizes.

⚠️ Switches are allowed in maps.

⚠️ If you're building in out-of-bounds water, the physics of the water do not work properly and therefore will be unbalanced for gameplay. For this reason, please avoid using out-of-bounds water in the playable areas of your maps.

Breaking these rules may result in disqualification from the contest!

📕 Balance Your Map
Ensure your map is fun to play for both teams by considering balance in your creative decisions. Do the witches have plenty of hiding options? Can hunters check for witches efficiently? Above all else, balance is often carried by map size - too small, and Hunters will find it too easy, too big and witches will almost always win. Try to strike a balance for both teams!

While there is no strict rule on player count for your map, we strongly recommend aiming for a map size that supports 4-10 players. This way, if you build bigger than you anticipated, your map may still be balanced for 8-16 players.

📙 Playtesting Is Key
Round up your friends (or even other entrants) to test your maps thoroughly. A great looking map will be not be approved if the gameplay mechanics are inconsistent or broken. Watch out for things such as stairs that don't work, ladders that can't be climbed, doorways that are too small. Switches are permitted, but not necessary for most maps.

📒 Optimise Your Maps
Optimise your prop and utility use to ensure your map is smooth to run. A well optimised map often has less than 500 props, any amount of structures, no utilities stacked on top of each other (e.g multiple lights in one position), and no unstable frozen props that jump away erratically when touched. If you are building in a map containing out-of-bounds water, the physics of the water does not work properly and therefore should be avoided in playable areas of your maps.

📗 Broken Hiding Spots
Combining structures together can occasionally lead to small gaps which props can fit into. Often, this happens with world boundaries, rocks, and ice structures - but can easily be avoided by vigorously checking intersections of structures (don't forget: playtest!). Even just one small gap in a structure may break your map, as witches can use these areas to avoid hunters with no risk. Please keep this in mind during and after the creation of your entry.

📘 Gamemode Compatibility
Your map must be compatible with Hide & Seek, Mobification and Hunt a Hag. Please consider using a variety of props and gameplay options for both teams, and take into account the skills each team may use.

We are closing entries on Wednesday, 15th January 2025 (midday, 12:00pm UTC)!
Once the contest ends, we will take time reviewing every entry and deciding on the winners, which will be revealed shortly after.

Wow, what a crazy week! 🤯
Between 31st October and 7th November, we broke all of our own records...

Over 600,000 unique players played Witch It during this week. 📈
At it's peak, we had over 200,000 unique players in one 24 hour period!

During this week, we peaked at 18,000 concurrent players across all platforms, beating our previous record of 4,971 back in December 2022! Please note that Steam Charts won't show non-Steam players.

While this amount of traffic was exciting, it was also extremely challenging. Witch It is our first game, and we've never had to prepare for such a high influx before, so this was a huge learning experience for us. Fortunately, we have patched up the holes and are now stronger than ever! 🔨

It's finally time to give back to you, our players, for being so patient with us while we resolved the server issues that were occurring during this week. ːhunterfaceː

In the past 24 hours, we've had over 80,000+ unique players open Witch It across all platforms, and hit our highest-ever concurrent playercount at over 17,000+! 🎉

To keep up with the huge influx of new players, Witch It is currently in "Overflow Mode".
Overflow Mode aims to let as many players into the game as possible by limiting some functionality of the game. 🔒

Your progression and items you have earned previously to Overflow Mode are safe, and will be accessible again once we exit Overflow Mode. Levels earned in Overflow Mode will not be saved.

⚠️ DLC Packs will not work in Overflow Mode. If you have bought DLC, it is safe and you will be able to access it again once we leave Overflow Mode.

While this is not the most ideal solution, we would like to assure you our team is working tirelessly on maintaining the servers. We've never experienced such large numbers before, and so it's been a huge challenge for us to keep everything stable! 🤯

We plan to extend our ongoing events (Dreamland and Halloween), and we will compensate all players with crafting ingredients in the next few weeks.
