Heroes!
Another year has passed and Vermintide 2 celebrates its 7th anniversary! It’s time to party and go out drinking with our heroes across the ruined streets of Helmgart looking for that one last casket of Bugman’s, and fight whatever nasty Skaven or Rotblood dares to interrupt!

The event will last from today until March 16!

A Quiet Drink & new Portrait Frame
As always, head over to the Weekly Event game mode in the Adventure mission selection menu to enter the event mission, ‘A Quiet Drink’. Completing the event with any difficulty will reward you with a brand-new anniversary portrait frame!

Make sure to check the Event tab in Okri’s Challenges!

Double XP
For the duration of the anniversary event, all XP gains will be doubled! Time to max out those Heroes, get extra levels, and grind Versus Ranks!

New Versus Map - A Grudge Served Cold
As mentioned in our previous dev blog, we’ve turned another Adventure into a playable Versus Map: ‘A Grudge Served Cold’! Heroes and Pactsworns alike will get to duke it out in these snowy vistas and through the dwarfen corridors. As always, the Versus version of the map has seen some adjustments to make it fit Versus better, including new objectives and changes to sections of the level. This Versus level takes 3 rounds to complete!

Regarding the loss of data issue
A portion of our player base suffered some serious loss of data & progression on their accounts on the day of Versus’ launch. It took us a while, but by now the brunt of those issues has been solved and reverted. As an apology for the inconvenience, we’ve added a new portrait frame to the game as compensation, the ‘Abasement’ frame!

This portrait frame will be awarded to all of those who suffered the aforementioned data loss issue. Expect the frame to arrive by Monday!

About the upcoming Weapon Pack
If you've been following our dev blogs and announcements, you've likely seen that we've been working on a new weapon pack, and we've even teased a prototype.

While we initially hoped to release it this year, we regret to inform you that it won't be coming out this year. At this point, we don't have more details to share.

We understand this is disappointing, and trust us, we're just as frustrated about it as you are. We’re eager to get these weapons into your hands and will keep pushing to make that happen!

Without further ado...
Patch 6.5.0 patch notes

Features & Tweaks

  • Fixed and re-enabled Sanctioned Mods & Versus Quickplay Dedicated Servers.
  • Enabled the Anniversary Event, including the 'A Quiet Drink' map, double XP, Lohner's time-limited event shop and new Event challenges at Okri's.
  • Added a new map to Versus: 'A Grudge Served Cold'
  • Weekly Event & Weekly Expedition changes: We've made adjustments to the various modifiers used in rotation in the Weekly Event and Weekly Expeditions.
    • Unstable Breed:
      • Bomb Carriers now explode a moment after being staggered or pushed. This should allow for a much better counter against them in melee.
      • Delay between Bomb Carriers waves has been doubled (for Twitch Mode, the delay is unchanged).
    • Ranald's Sparking Gift:
      • A player's own explosion now always sends them flying backwards, to alleviate a bit of the randomness.
      • Delay between Gifts has been doubled (for Twitch Mode, the delay is unchanged).
      • Ranald’s Sparking Gift no longer affects bots. They never acquire the affliction or take damage from it, but can be catapulted.
      • As only players can be targeted by the affliction now, the delay between Gifts extends by 5 seconds for every bot on the team.
    • Curse of Comradeship:
      • Curse of Comradeship damage intervals (the time between damage instances) now scale depending on distance:
        • Minimum distance: 4m, with a damage interval of 1s.
        • Maximum distance: 12m, with a damage interval of 0.15s.
      • Knocked down players are no longer affected and no longer affect other players.
      • Curse of Comradeship will no longer appear in Chaos Wastes Weekly Expeditions.
  • Horn of Magnus - Removed the chance for Beastmen to spawn in.
  • Versus: Rat Ogre leap charge can no longer be interrupted by Necromancer skeleton attacks.

  • A Quiet Drink - Fixed a spot players could get stuck on in the tavern.
  • A Grudge Served Cold - Fixed a respawn point that caused rescued players to fall through the ground.
  • A Grudge Served Cold - Added a killzone at the bottom of a pit. Which is another way to prevent players from getting stuck when going where they shouldn't, SIENNA.

  • Into the Nest - Fixeda rare bug where non-Skaven enemies could spawn in the level.
  • Fixed the navigation buttons not showing up the movement tutorials of the Handbook.

  • Versus: Fixed a crash if a Packmaster leaves while the round is ending and they have an enemy who is hoisted by them.
  • Weaves: Fixed the Chaos Warrior with Shield not triggering Chamon's Aurification.
  • Khazukan Kazakit-Ha! - Fixed so that the pressure plate objective doesn't show until you repaired the pipe and started the burner on each side of the ridge.

Heroes!
We’ve just pushed a patch that swaps our old version of Easy Anti-Cheat for the newest version. The previous version is scheduled to shut down on March 4, which would’ve meant no protection to the game from cheats or tampering unless we did this upgrade.

A couple of things to note about this change:
  • For normal gameplay, there should be no notable difference. The game will continue to run normally in both Official and Modded realms, and no extra actions need to be taken from you as players to continue playing.
  • Operating Systems that had incompatibility issues with our EAC may find those issues gone with this update. We still can only officially support Windows 10 & 11, but nonetheless there might be one barrier less in that aspect.
  • The system necessary to support Sanctioned Mods is changing. This means that until sanctioned mods are updated by their authors, they might not work in the official realm.
[/strike]
  • We are currently in communication with mod authors to find the swiftest solution to this issue for all sanctioned mods.
  • Sanctioned Mods are now fixed as of Patch 6.4.0 without needing to update the original mods!
  • Connecting to other lobbies might take longer than usual at first. Will go back to normal after some time.
  • Versus Quickplay will be temporarily disabled as we update the servers.
  • [/list]
We're working to fix the issues with Sanctioned Mods and Versus Quickplay Dedicated Servers as soon as possible, we'll keep you updated.

Hotfix 6.3.4 patch notes - 3rd of March
    Features & Tweaks
    • Replaced the Kamu Easy Anti-Cheat for Epic Online Service
    • Improved error messaging for banned players to show reason & duration.
    • Temporarily disabled Versus Quickplay / Dedicated Servers.
Hotfix 6.3.5 patch notes - 4th of March
    Fixs
    • Fixed an issue where re-installing the game would not re-install EasyAntiCheat correctly.

    Heroes and Pactsworn!
As mentioned in our previous announcement, another Vermintide 2 level has been adapted and added to the pool of playable Versus maps: A Grudge Served Cold!

We thought you might be curious about why or how a map is turned into a Versus level, so we interviewed one of our level designers, Pål, who redesigned the level...

Why was A Grudge Served Cold picked to be the next Versus map? What features or aspects of it made it seem like a good fit for Versus?
“The level was built in a way that converting it to Versus would be quite a fast process, compared to other levels. The layout is open to water on the left-hand side and mountain ranges to the right and it doesn’t have too many empty backfaces or “half-built” structures like many other levels have.”

Areas that Heroes never get to look at in normal gameplay often aren’t meant to be looked at, but because the Pactsworn specials can move around all over the place by climbing or even leaping, patching up all of those views is important.

“We also wanted to have another art style, where both snow/winter mixed with the Dwarfen environment made it feel fresh."

"It also features a nice mix between tight passages or “corridors” and open spaces, and it also provides quite a lot of verticality.”

What, overall, makes for a good & fun Versus level?
“Definitely a mix between open spaces, verticality, chokes, interiors, and exteriors.”

“Levels that are “geometrically complicated” in their set-up are also hard to convert to Versus (‘Tower of Treachery’ would probably be quite hard to do, for example).
Maps with too many long chokepoints and tight passages are also not fun (‘Hunger in the Dark’, as an example)”

“Maps that have some built-in events that make sense in the world already (such as the gate you blow up in Screaming Bell to pass through the plaza) are great, but levels that offer opportunities for new Versus specific events to be added are also good.”

“We wanted the “portfolio” of levels to offer everything that makes Vermintide 2 fun, and the levels are better if they allow a lot of new areas to be added for Skaven, so the players see some new parts and experience what the world looks like from different perspectives (such as standing on a high cliff and looking down at the Heroes).”

For ‘A Grudge Served Cold’, are there any highlights of new or changed places, objectives, pacing, etc.?
“‘A Grudge Served Cold’ was a bit too long and had to be cut at the beginning. We also added some interiors such as caves and safe rooms inside the Dwarf interiors.”

“The main events are still as they are in Adventure mode, but we added a few capture zones, and a payload to reduce the endless running and allow the pact-sworn to break the Heroes’ dash.”

“It was supposed to be only 2 rounds, but the length of the level made it into 3 rounds. We added a night environment to the last round to make it feel like some time has passed, and also because it looks nice.”

What would you look for if you had to turn another map into a Versus level?
“ ‘Garden of Morr’ is a level that looks to have a very fun Versus layout, but the geometry is quite complicated to work with, with many small units stitched together, and lots of holes where Heroes can’t look.

On the other hand, it’s not nice to have too many large, solid structures, because if we need to make changes, artists need to spend time separating them, exporting new units & more.”

“‘A Parting of the Waves’ looks to be a great Versus level as well.”

“All-in-all, we move, delete, add, and heavily rework the levels, but on the “surface,” they should look just like the Adventure levels. But pretty much all the units in a level are somehow tweaked, rotated a little, moved, and fixed so Versus works. It’s mostly about making the pact-sworn feel like Heroes because they have access to a lot of level areas that the Heroes can’t reach. So shortcuts, vantage points, etc. are very important.”

“You also create a “net” of transition points with the climb units, which in theory should cover the whole level, but it’s important to not add too many (the UI becomes bloated).”

“We also scaled down the enemy compositions, terror events strength, and roaming enemies a lot, since we have the 4 pact-sworn players using the Horde ability all the time.”

“If I were to convert another Adventure level to Versus, I would look for a bit more ‘wild and crazy’ layout level to push the Versus experience even further and avoid repetitiveness. For example Bögenhafen’s ‘The Pit’, which is a huge open town map with plenty of possibilities to add cool events.”

The new map will be added to the pool of Versus maps on March 6 alongside the Anniversary event! Check it out then!

    Heroes!

The second installment in the Verminous Dreams campaign, ‘Devious Delvings’, is out now, free for all owners of Vermintide 2!

    Devious Delvings
Having infiltrated the Skaven-infested ruins of the mythical Athel Lithri, our Heroes must now investigate the site to find out what it is that the verminous Pactsworn are scheming. The devastation and machinery suggest a massive project, but what are they after in this temple of all places?

Well, either way, better get to the bottom of it and smash every rat that comes your way. And the ones that don’t, too, for good measure (Saltzpyre agrees).

Just like the previous maps, Devious Delvings comes with its own set of Okri’s Challenges and rewards, such as a portrait frame and paintings!

    Versus: Custom Game Settings
And for the Pactsworn enthusiasts, we’ve got an exciting new addition! When creating a player-hosted custom game, the host now has a suite of adjustable settings to tweak and modify how the match will play out! You can take the opportunity to make things super crazy, or to make your own competitive changes!

Some examples of the settings you can find in Custom Games:
    • Early Win toggle
    • Hero Bots toggle
    • Friendly Fire toggle
    • Number of Hero Wounds
    • Knocked down Hero health
    • Horde Ability charge rate
    • Pactsworn respawn timer
    • Pactsworn Catch up with Hero distance
    • Spawn distance from Heroes
    • Pactsworn Health
    • …And more!
On top of those and every other setting being added with this update, we plan on hopefully expanding that list with more and more settings as time goes on! Feel free to give us your own suggestions for settings you’d like to tinker with in Custom Games!

In the lobby browser, games that are playing with rules different from the default ones we use in Quickplay Servers will be flagged as having a modified ruleset.

    Developer Stream today - 17:00 CEST - twitch.tv/fatsharkgames

We’ll be hosting a stream on our twitch today at 17:00 CEST! Level Design Lead Rickard and Art Director Joseph will be showing off the new mission as well as answering your questions and chatting with the community. Come hang out! twitch.tv/fatsharkgames

    • (Versus) Fixed a bug where the "Not so Fast! - Disable a Hero that is Reviving another Hero" challenge was obtainable by simply disabling any hero, regardless if they are reviving or not.
    • Fixed some mistakes with the German localization.
    • Fixed an issue where hero skins that overwrite hats would still take texture changes from said hat, if applicable (Notably, Slayer head cosmetics changing tattoos and skin)

    Heroes and Pactsworn!
This update brings a new dangerous toy for the Pactsworn side in Versus: A new playable monster, the Rat Ogre!

When the time comes for a Monster to spawn in a Versus match, Pactsworn players can choose between the Bile Troll and the Rat Ogre. While both are monsters, their way of assaulting the Hero team is very different, and so it is up to the players to choose the right tool for the job (or just the most fun!)

The Rat Ogre’s specialty is scrambling the Hero team through a frenzied assault. It excels at separating the Heroes and taking advantage of the chaos to chase after stragglers, pummeling away with wild, ferocious attacks that don’t give the defender room to breathe.

How to play the Rat Ogre
Similar to the Bile Troll and the Heroes, you’ve got light attacks and heavy attacks. Tapping your attack button (Default Keybind: Left Mouse Click) results in a series of fast but powerful attacks. Holding down the attack button results in a Heavy Attack, a downward slam with both fists that deals massive damage but is tricky to pull off!

Holding the secondary attack button (Default Keybind: Right Mouse Click) allows the Rat Ogre to prepare to Leap! Charge the leap for a short while and then aim. Once charged, you can release the button to launch yourself through the air, knocking any Heroes you land upon away and sending them flying all over. Perfect for making a dramatic entrance and throwing those pesky Heroes into disarray.

You can also find this information in the in-game Handbook!

    What’s next?
We’re super excited about the release of Versus, it was a massive milestone for a project that we love and we’re glad that it’s been overall a fun time and well-received by the community!

But what’s next for Versus? Beyond the Rat Ogre, we’re looking to add more little things and tinker a bit more in the coming year! There’s a lot of very valid feedback that you guys have given that we want to address and we hope to be able to do that bit by bit in 2025. There are also small additions planned, such as Custom Settings to player-hosted games.

Other than Versus, we’ll continue working on the rest of the Verminous Dreams campaign maps (hope you’ve been having fun with The Forsaken Temple!), as well as a previously mentioned Weapon Pack which is still in the pipeline. Beyond that, well, we can’t reveal everything, can we?

Barring hotfixes, this will be the last Vermintide 2 update of the year, and what a blast it has been!

We hope you enjoy the Holidays and the Gifts of the Wolf Father, and we hope you’ve had as much fun with this game this year as we have! See you next year, drengbarazi.
    - The Vermintide 2 Team.

    Patch 6.2.0 patch notes
As a heads up, due to a sudden issue with our patch building process, this update will be around a 25 gb download on PC. We apologize once again for the inconvenience, we thought we had seen the last of it. We’ll continue investigating to hopefully avoid more patches like these in the future.

An update regarding the data loss issue:
Hey all, just checking in again with a progress update and some further information to share.

Our backend developers have a 3-step plan to restore the missing data:

    • Stage 1: Gather and collate account data from storages we have, and transfer this to another system which will be used for rebuilding missing account data
    • Stage 2: Conduct some wizardry in this system to organise the data (e.g. get the latest/highest/correct value for each statistic for each player) and prep it for being merged back in to our backend data
    • Stage 3: Update the backend and merge the rebuilt data into existing account data.
Stage 1 is in full swing and data is currently being downloaded and transferred to our system required to rebuild the missing data. This is a tremendous amount of account data, and will take some time to complete. We’re exploring whether we can scale this process up and complete it any faster, but for now an approximate estimate is that this stage will take a few weeks to complete.

Please bear with us, and we’ll continue to provide updates when we have more to share.

A big thank you for your continued patience during this process.
