Hello space crew,

Voidship 1.3 is online. Bringing the much-awaited freeform ship update. No longer shall your creations be confined to a 5x5 box. Go wild! You can also now rename your crewmembers!



There's a few smaller new things I've also added. Full update list here:
  1. Freeform ship creation. It's no longer a 5x5 grid. It's upped to 7x7, maximum amount of modules is still 25, This means the game and balance is the same, but you can end up with practically whatever shape ship you want.
  2. Renaming crew. Just click on their name in the crew menu. Give them fun nicknames!
  3. 3 new weapons modules to unlock and build.
  4. 2 new buyables in stores and 2 new traditions to unlock.
  5. Missile damage %+- now available as a potential random crew skill.
  6. Added a few new crew portraits.
  7. Various smaller bug fixes.
A few notes: This update is not compatible with older save files. If you wish to continue an older game then you can redownload the previous versions of the game through the beta's tab in steam game properties.

This is only for the English language version for now, will take a bit of time to update the Russian language build too.



I'm currently full steam ahead on the next game (Voidspeed Outlaw), but hopefully I can return to Voidship during breaks in development and bring even more new stuff here in a bit. I'm still halfway into developing a scenarios mode, which I'm itching to get out but which will still take some time.

Big thank you for being a part of this journey! Voidship has always been a passion project and all the support and love It's gotten from the player base is super appreciated. Makes it all worth it for me as a solo indie developer.

I'm here to announce the next game in the Voidship Universe. An F-Zero inspired pseudo-3D racing game called Voidspeed outlaw coming in 2021. This time we travel to Mars way before all the action happened In Voidship: The Long Journey.

"Mars 21XX. Ever since you were a toddler you've always dreamt of being a racer in the system-wide Voidspeed Racing League. You saved your money, pieced together a junk ship, and raced in wasteland all-or-nothing outlaw leagues. You've been noticed by the street scene and have built a pretty competent racer, but the races are incredibly illegal and run by the Martian underground. You can take favors to climb the ranks, but all debts must be paid.

The path to the VRL is steep, full of corruption and death, but it's all you've ever dreamt of. And you don't accept defeat."

Major news crew!

We've partnered with Levsha and together we've released Voidship: The Long Journey in Russian. The game is fully localized with all content translated and Russian voice-over added for the cinematics!

The game is 30% off on Steam for the week to celebrate!



To play the Russian version of the game:
  • If your steam launcher is already set to Russian then Steam should auto-download the Russian version.
  • If it doesn't or your steam launcher is in another language then right click on Voidship: The Long Journey in your steam library. Choose properties, then open the language tab and select Russian from the drop down menu.



Save games are not compatible between the two different language versions of the game.

"Captain, we've done a major overhaul on the fusion core. My Mur assistants really went to town on it. I can report that it's been highly successful. Ensigns on all decks are reporting 15% less glitches in the ship-wide power networks. With improvements like this, the ship will last us another century at least."

Hey, all!

I've uploaded a big bug fix update to the game. Version 1.21 (went live 19th December). There's a lot of engine work and updates in the background. The reasons for these will be made clear in another further update down the line. For now though, here is a list of the visible changes and bug fixes:

Changes:
  • More resolution options added including ultrawide.
  • Added option to take a steam screenshot in all views (steam default key for this is F12).
  • System Map camera improvements. Several camera bugs were fixed. The camera will correctly zoom in and out of the battle map in transition from the system map.
  • Crew menu tooltips much improved for better readability.
  • Battlemap UI quality of life improvements. Hover-over info will not be drawn out of screen view anymore in edge cases.
  • Ship name can now be longer.
  • Other less important visual UI tweaks and button redraws.
  • Small rebalances here and there (Wispfighters ever so slightly nerfed).

Bugs fixed:
  • Star systems with a quest mission that are done won't show up as a highlighted quest mission anymore.
  • In some cases traditions could overflow their maximum of 12. This is fixed.
  • Annoying ship name input error fixed where the cursor would move wrong once you had deleted the whole name,
  • Late game battle map generation crashes when creating too many allies were fixed.
  • Also the number of allies created in late maps was a bug, the maximum allied fleet cap there works properly now.
  • In some edge cases enemy satellites HP overflowed over their maximum.
  • Same with enemy sensor arrays.
  • Fixed an extremely rare case of battle end not triggering.
  • Just as rare battle map targeting crash fixed.
  • Steam overlay does not have to be enabled anymore to get achievements.
  • CE NULL and WO NULL were sometimes shown as speakers in starmap dialogues when the real crew members had just died. Stand in placeholder crewmembers are now substituted.
  • Objectives numbering in the intel menu was wrong in some cases.

A lot has changed since you were away. Now that the Summer Sale is over and new games have been played to shreds, it´s time to give old favorites some love too.

If you missed our last update due to Summer Sale madness, here is an overview of Voidfarer Traditions update.

New content
  • 25% more content to explore overall.
  • Encounter new events, longer dialogues with multiple choices to make.
  • New anomaly sector in system map - a high risk and high reward area with unique enemies. Learn their weaknesses and battle a mighty foe.
  • 6 new modules - 2 of them unlockable within unique events. 5 of them featuring completely new game mechanics, like tractor beams and teleportation.
  • Major overhaul to the traditions system - the number of traditions has nearly doubled. Traditions come with added effects on gameplay, making the choices even more important. Through these choices, you tell the story of your Voidfarers.
  • More interactions and things to buy at friendly starbases.



Quality of life improvements
  • Ability to return to friendly starbase you´ve already visited.
  • New settings for camera rotation, screenshake and screenflash disabling.
  • Build menu shows more stats for modules and the entire ship:
    - ship speed stats - compare how maneuverable one design is compared to another.
    - module stats are reworked and calculate appropriate firepower for all modules.
    - module range, turning power and area damage range info. - items over budget more visible.
  • Resources pop-up while going into battle removed.

    We also fixed a bunch of bugs and tiny annoyances. Save games are not compatible with previous versions of the game. Start fresh and craft a new journey for your people. You can still use old saves by rolling back to an older version under ´betas´ in Steam.

Rebalances and bug fixes
  • Due to popular demand enemy frigate spam in late game lessened. 20% fewer enemy frigates, but the remaining ones are stronger. New modules available to deal with fast small enemies.
  • Text overflow in UI fixed and polished.
  • Friendlies no longer drop loot, so you aren´t tempted to let them die.
  • When choosing dialogue options after battle the ship no longer shoots in the background.
  • Sole surviving enemy HQ doesn´t fly off at ridiculous speed.
  • A lot of smaller bugs and annoyances fixed too numerous to list.

Save games are not compatible with previous versions of the game. Start fresh and craft a new journey for your people. You can still use old saves by rolling back to an older version under ´betas´ in Steam.

Voidship: The Long Journey is nearing a major content release. We invite new testers to travel the void and find all the pesky bugs.

The development branch is now available with tons of new content, balance and optimizations. However, since this is a beta branch we cannot guarantee complete stability. A beta may have bugs and crash. It is also important to note that after official content update your beta saves will no longer work. If this trade-off sounds exciting to you, then we invite you to join us in testing the latest version of Voidship: The Long Journey!

How to select the beta branch
Head over to your Steam library and right click the Voidship game name (in the list on the left). When you right click the game a drop-down menu should appear, with several options. Select 'Properties' from the drop-down menu.

Once the Properties window opens there will be a BETAS tab at the top. Select the BETAS tab, select 'beta' from the BETAS tab.

Once you close the Properties window Steam will begin to update your client to the latest beta version of the game.

How to submit bugs
You can submit bugs to our discussion forum in ´Bug Reports/Tech Support´section under a pinned discussion: click here.

How to switch back to a stable branch
If the beta build is crashing too often, or if you would like to return to the regular Steam release, no problem! Simply open the Properties window again. Then, in the BETAS tab you can select 'NONE' to return to the normal branch.

Friends!

3 weeks have passed since Voidship: The Long Journey launched on Steam. It has been an amazing ride for us and we thank everyone who helped to make this game a reality. We offer our thanks to our testers and everyone who provided us with valuable feedback. We are honored to have so many early players, thank you all for buying the game, writing reviews and talking about it all over the internet.

With your help, most major bugs have now been fixed and some requested features and balance already added. (More info in our Steam bug reports forum).

From now on we will be concentrating on bringing you more Voidship universe content in scheduled free content updates for Voidship: The Long Journey.

Next content update we will be concentrating on:

1. New random events to make your playthroughs more varied. Keeping the game fresh for longer both in dialogue and on the battle map.
2. A challenges mode for special one-off battles.
3. Small improvements like additional display settings (camera rotation, screenshake etc.).
4. Small balance tweaks to continue to refine the experience.

As we’re developing this first free update new features will be incorporated into the beta branch on Steam. We will let you know when the first of these additions are online.

We invite you to come to share your own ideas about Voidship in our Discord or Steam Discussions threads. Minor bugs will now be dealt with in order of priority, please post your findings in Steam Bug Reports or in the appropriate channel on our Discord.
