Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction Gameplay Trailer

The Splinter Cell HD Trilogy will be released on the PlayStation Store tomorrow, Ubisoft has announced.

The games - Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory - will cost €9.99/£7.99 individually or €29.99/£23.99 bundled together.

A Blu-ray disc with the games on will be released "at a later date", wrote Ubisoft product manager Akshay Paul on the European PlayStation blog.

The Splinter Cell HD Trilogy revitalises the last-generation Splinter Cell games in 1080p resolution and with stereoscopic 3D. Trophies have also been slung in.

PlayStation Plus subscribers will be offered 20 per cent off individual title Splinter Cell and 10 per cent off Pandora Tomorrow. Chaos Theory comes with an exclusive theme that features Sam Fisher - the hero of the games.

Eurogamer's Splinter Cell review dished out 9/10 back in 2003.

Eurogamer's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow review awarded 8/10 in 2004.

Eurogamer's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory review, written in 2005, also deemed an 8/10 appropriate.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six® Vegas 2

The new Rainbow Six game thought to be in development at Ubisoft will feature a complex morality system that asks players to think carefully about the consequences of their actions.

According to a Kotaku report, this branching path feature is a key aspect of the revamped tactical shooter.

One particularly visceral sequence in the game reportedly sees your team attempting to stop a terrorist group from blowing up a bridge leading into New York.

The bomb is strapped to an innocent stranger and you'll have to choose between immediately killing the civilian to save the bridge or risk hundreds of lives by trying to rescue him.

The HUD apparently shows the blast radius of the bomb, how many people are in its range and where the other members of your team are located.

The report claims that one possible outcome has you pushing the man off the bridge, viewing some of his memories as he falls, and then witnessing him explode.

Kotaku's sources also managed to procure a couple of early screenshots, reproduced here.

Earlier this month word sneaked out that the back-to-basics game, which Ubisoft still hasn't confirmed exists, sees your team attempting to thwart a homegrown US terrorist cell hellbent on reducing Manhattan to rubble.

Beyond Good and Evil™

Beyond Good & Evil 2 might be too ambitious for the current generation of consoles to handle, creator Michel Ancel has revealed.

Talking with Eurogamer at E3 last week, Ancel confirmed reports that Ubisoft is now looking beyond the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for the long-in-development sequel to his acclaimed 2003 adventure.

Ancel wouldn't say for certain that it won't release on current gen hardware but revealed that his team is struggling to squeeze the game onto today's systems.

"I think we are still thinking about what we have to cut to fit on today's consoles, what we can improve. We really want to make the game perfect and as good as possible without cutting things. There is special gameplay that we really want to keep but it needs a certain power."

There has been very little said about the game since its reveal back in 2008 and, alas, Ancel wasn't forthcoming with much in the way of new information last week.

"I'd prefer you to see it when it is ready because it is something special to play," he politely replied to our demands for details.

However, he did outline why development has taken so long.

"After working on Rabbids, I then jumped into Beyond Good & Evil 2 for a long time. The development is advanced but we need more time to go further because with the hardware and the engine we have to improve it.

"So we took a little break and decided to make a 2D Rayman game because today's consoles are capable of really incredible 2D graphics and nobody has really used those abilities to display very HD pictures at 60FPS. In parallel with that, we continue with Beyond Good & Evil."

The original game – which saw a critically-acclaimed HD re-release earlier this year – while building a loyal fanbase, was hardly a huge commercial success for the publisher first time round.

However, Ancel is convinced the IP's luster has grown in the years since, and that the sequel has a better chance of connecting with audiences.

"We put a lot of our time, our energy, our patience into that game. So we were disappointed by the results," said Ancel of the original.

"At the same time, today we've been asked more about this game than any other game that Ubisoft has done in the same period. So this game is the one that people are really focussing on today. So it encourages us to continue on Beyond Good & Evil 2."

Ancel's next game, the delightful-looking Rayman: Origins platformer, is due out on PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 later this year.

Glorious last-gen adventure Beyond Good and Evil arrives in HD on PSN today - but at a price. At £11.99, the PSN version is almost double the cost of BG&E HD's Xbox Live Arcade release.

An 800 MSP price was one of the reasons BG&E HD scored 9/10 on Eurogamer. One reason, but far from all.

A downloadable version of electrifying new open world sequel inFamous 2 is available today for lazy people. It costs a full RRP of £50.

Second Castlevania: Lords of Shadow add-on Resurrection also makes its way online for PS3 owners today, as does the Arcade Edition upgrade to Super Street Fighter IV.

Beyond Good and Evil™

Top game designer Michel Ancel has revealed that the sequel to Beyond Good & Evil will not be released on current-gen consoles. Instead, his Ubisoft Montpellier team is focusing on the upcoming Rayman Origins.

The news emerged last night from an exclusive Ubisoft dinner in LA, attended by Eurogamer's sister site GamesIndustry.biz.

"It is still alive and we are very far [into] development so we can't go back now," Ancel said. "We are targeting the next generation of consoles."

Beyond Good & Evil 2 was unveiled at the publisher's Ubidays event in 2008. An HD remake of the critically acclaimed but underperforming original, which launched on PS2, GameCube and Xbox, was released earlier this year.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six® Vegas 2

A new entry in Ubisoft's Rainbow Six franchise is on its way that will see the series return to its strategic roots, according to a Kotaku tipster.

Though no name for the project has been settled on yet, the source claimed that the game will see your team attempting to thwart a homegrown terrorist attack on New York City.

It'll be more story-driven than recent entries in the long-running tactical FPS series, but see a renewed focus on stealth and strategy over reckless gunplay.

The new game will apparently sport a new "icon-rich" visual style and include a cover system which sees the action briefly switching from first person to third person.

Ubisoft has declined to comment on the leak.

This isn't first time talk of a new Rainbow Six games has popped up. Last month "Rainbow Six (2011)" appeared on a developer resumé while Ubisoft has been sitting on the www.rainbowsix-bd.com domain name since 2009.

An E3 reveal perhaps? We wouldn't bet against it.

The last time the series graced our screens was the solid Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 back in 2008, which skillfully maneuvered a 7/10 from Eurogamer's Kristan Reed.

Beyond Good and Evil™

One high-profile casualty of the PlayStation hack was Beyond Good & Evil HD, which wassupposed to release on PlayStation 3 in May.

Sony has now confirmed a new release date of 8th June - next Wednesday.

Beyond Good & Evil was an action adventure masterpiece released by Ubisoft in 2003. This HD remake is "thorough and beneficial" and the 800 Microsoft Points (£6.80) price was right on XBLA.

"If, like me, you let this one pass you by, there's no excuse not to rectify that mistake now," Eurogamer concluded in its 9/10 Beyond Good & Evil HD review.

UPDATE: Ubisoft has contacted Eurogamer to say the report is untrue.

ORIGINAL STORY: Splinter Cell 3D and the upcoming Driver Renegade will be included in a new set of Nintendo 3DS hardware bundles, a new report claims.

Nintendo launches the two new packs in October, according to a leaked retailer release schedule obtained by MCV.

Pricing for the bundles is yet to be determined.

Stealthy shooter Splinter Cell 3D was a launch title for the 3DS earlier this year. Its charms unfortunately snuck by Eurogamer's Kristan Reed, who fired off a damp squib 4/10 review.

Driver Renegade meanwhile is an upcoming portable accompaniment to September's home console iteration Driver: San Francisco. We've yet to hear much more about it.

Both blue and black 3DS flavours will be available in bundle form.

Beyond Good and Evil™

Those worried that I Am Alive and Beyond Good & Evil 2 have been cancelled need not.

Ubisoft has confirmed to Eurogamer that both games are safe and still in development.

Last night Ubisoft announced it had cancelled a number of planned titles as part of an internal restructuring exercise.

"Ubisoft has taken measures to adapt its structure to major changes in the industry by reorganising the roles and operations of its studios, which has resulted in the termination of certain projects," Ubisoft said in its financial report.

"Terminated projects were unannounced projects," a Ubisoft spokesperson told Eurogamer this morning.

However, when asked for an update on both games, all Ubisoft would offer was: "We have nothing new to report on those two titles for the moment."

Last we heard survival disaster game I Am Alive had been transformed from a full retail release into a PlayStation Network and Xbox Live download game.

In January 2010 we learnt that I Am Alive wouldn't be released until some time in or after April 2011. That, obviously, hasn't happened.

Developer Darkworks was booted off the project and I Am Alive was handed to Ubisoft's new Shanghai studio. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has mentioned the game was being "totally re-engineered", which could explain the switch to PSN and XBL.

In February Beyond Good & Evil HD producer Wang Xu told Eurogamer to "keep the faith" with regards to a sequel.

When asked whether the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network re-release was being used as a test balloon to gauge consumer interest in the franchise, Xu was similarly coy.

"Yes it is true; please buy Beyond Good & Evil HD if you want more BG&E games :)" he wrote, before adding, "For real... I don't know."

Following a brief teaser trailer unveiled in May 2008, Ubisoft has released no further formal information about the proposed sequel.
