Torchlight III - michael.clark
A new class has just arrived to Torchlight III with the Spring Update! Anchored in a state between life and death, the Cursed Captain remains true to its adventurous spirit.

As an experienced captain of the seas, this corporeal spectre can summon a ghostly crew of swashbucklers, and use the tools of the piracy trade to tackle combatants. The Cursed Captain utilizes their own unique resource, Doubloons, which are collected mid-combat from monsters and treasures.

In addition to the Cursed Captain’s new class-specific weapon (the cannon), its attire also includes a new class-specific armor type - capes.

“The Captain fully realizes an archetype of class not yet fulfilled - the Summoner. While some of the other classes do have the capacity to summon minions, the Captain is the first to dive deep into that mechanic. Cannoneers, Riflemen, standard Crewmates, and your First Mate all can join you in combat, should you include them in your build. As the captain of this crew, you have the power to command them! You can order the crew to relocate, perform extra skills on demand, or focus fire on a specific target using the Black Spot debuff.

If leading a crew of undead seafarers is not to your liking, the Cursed Captain is also a powerhouse on their own, packing a wide array of cursed magic and explosive skills. Instead of paying Doubloons to your Crew, load them up into your trusty cannon and fire them with the Plunderbuss skill, or order your flagship to fire a deadly broadside onto your foes from afar... or, simply bring the flagship directly into the fight. Yes, I do mean the ENTIRE ship.”

ADDITIONAL CONTENT & QUALITY OF LIFE UPDATES COMING…

An abundance of adorable pets are making their way to the frontier. From the ‘Samurai Shiba Inu’ to the ferocious ‘Fire Fox’, the frontier’s collection of pets will grow with new, additional quality of life updates in tow.

• FOUR NEW Species with over FOURTY NEW pets and pet variants!
• Improvements to the Pet UI, including the ability to better manage, delete, and sort your pets.
• More pet slots!
• Resolved the bug that prevents pets from joining their owners while adventuring.

There are also an assortment of other content and quality of life updates that will also be coming alongside this ‘Cursed Captain’ update, including an entirely new ‘Fur & Fashion’ contract with all new dyes, fort props, and pets.

An instance reset feature is coming to Torchlight III. Players will now be able to reset any instance from any shared area (towns/forts) in order to restart all of the world’s instances. Now you can continue to farm in a particular area of the world without having to leave the entire game or wear out the instance reset timer.

In addition to the new ‘Instance Reset’ feature, players will be able to entirely reset their Multiplayer or Singleplayer accounts in order to restart their game from scratch as an entirely fresh, new experience.

We’ve also been hard at work to resolve many bugs (including that problematic, lingering Humble Quest log) and performance issues and believe we have made some great strides on both fronts.

The Spring Update is now available on Steam. We hope you enjoy the Cursed Captain as much as we do!

The instance reset option is available via the map menu.

We’ve also been hard at work to resolve many bugs (including that problematic, lingering Humble Quest log) and performance issues and believe we have made some great strides on both fronts.

We’ll have more details, including a full run-down of the Cursed Captain class in our next update, but until then, we hope this wets your appetite for the upcoming content patch.

That’s all of the updates I have for today! Until next time, remember that a slay a day keeps the Yapper away! See you on the frontier soon...

Ahoy arachnid attackers!

The winter has been cold and long, but the frontier is starting to warm up; we are getting ready for summer and wanted to update you on all things Torchlight III.

SNOW & STEAM CONTRACT

Winter is coming to an end and with spring just around the corner, it’s time to let the Snow & Steam contract thaw out and evaporate.

What was your favorite reward from the Snow & Steam contract?

In about a month from now we’ll be turning off the “Snow & Steam” contract; when this update goes out and the contract is no longer live/available the following will occur:

- The contract will no longer appear in the contract UI
- Players who had the contract active will be dropped back to one of the regular contracts
- Players will keep the rewards they have already claimed from the contract
- Players will lose any rewards they have not yet claimed from the contract

So make sure to grab all your contract rewards soon before we turn them off (in about a month) in preparation for the next upcoming update!

Good Morning Hyvid Hackers!

This hotfix for Steam has some additional fixes for the Snow & Steam update. These fixes will be reviewed on the Steam platform and then released to consoles within the next couple of weeks (pending console certification).

We will be preparing an additional set of hotfixes after this batch is released to consoles and we are still busy working on a larger content update (with additional quality of life improvements) that will be released when it's ready.

Until then, thank you for continuing to cleanse the frontier of Netherim and we’ll see you in Trevail Point soon!

Good morning Steam players!

Today’s hotfix resolves outstanding quest issues, a few environmental blocks, and some visual issues that arose from Fazeer’s new affix bonuses. We are still investigating and reviewing several player reported issues, including problems with pets being unable to travel and hope to have another hotfix readied within the next week or so.

Once we have ensured the recently reported issues have been resolved on Steam we will release the updates to console players. Thank you again for your reports and feedback and we’ll see you again on the frontier soon!

This month's Developer Update comes from Guy Somberg, Lead Programmer of Echtra. Sometimes the best possible way to look to the future of a project, is to understand its past. While the next Developer Update will take a deeper dive into upcoming updates, ongoing issues, and other community feedback, this blog is for those who enjoy a good technical read and want a closer look at some of our internal development ‘war stories’.

INTRODUCTION

In game development, not every problem that you solve is performance, features, or functionality that the players get to see. Sometimes, you have something messy that needs to be fixed, and you just need to dive in and fix it so that work can get done.

There is a phrase that we use to talk about this sort of work: “yak shaving”. Originally from a reference to the TV program “Ren and Stimpy”, it now refers to work that appears to be completely unrelated to the end goal, but which you have to accomplish in order to reach it. For example - “I am trying to build a stone bridge over this creek. I am shaving this yak so that I can trade the fur to a yarn maker, who in exchange will let me borrow the cart so that I can take it to the quarry to pick up some stones.” Shaving the yak isn’t necessarily an important part of building that bridge, but you won’t be able to make any progress while the yak still has its coat!

This is a collection of just some of the times that we’ve had yak-shaving problems that needed to be “just fixed”.

Hello Brall Brawlers!

This morning we have a quick data (content) fix that will resolve a few issues currently persisting in the Snow & Steam update. This patch will not require an update and will be available in-game to all platforms as soon as we’ve pushed it.

We are reviewing the recent feedback and are reviewing and gathering bug reports for upcoming hotfixes/updates. We are aware of some ongoing server crashes that manifest as disconnections while traveling. We hope to push out a server-side hotfix next week that will help resolve these issues that should be available to all platforms.

We hope you have been enjoying the recent updates to the frontier and we’ll be back with more update-related news soon!
