Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition - Twin Sails Eir
Dear ferroequinologists and railway enthusiasts,

With a mix of nostalgia and gratitude towards the community, we want to share some important news regarding the "Ticket to Ride" journey that we've embarked upon together. As we look back on the countless railway adventures we've shared, let us tell you a little bit more about what the future holds.

First and foremost, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you. Your passion for building tracks, collecting cards, and creating cherished memories has made this journey truly exceptional. Over the years, we've built a community of enthusiastic players who have turned this game into an unforgettable experience.

However, as time marches on, technology advances, and gaming standards reach new heights.
It has become increasingly difficult for us to ensure the best possible gaming experience for players of the classic edition of Ticket to Ride.
The engine on which the game runs was specifically developed for it, with its own technology - an engine which is not supported anymore by any of the platforms you can play the game on.
Thus, it makes it impossible to create new content for the game, to make any significant updates or ensure the game's stability.

If you're a big Ticket to Ride fan, your journey doesn't end here, though!

Marmalade Game Studio, Days of Wonder, Asmodee Entertainment and Twin Sails Interactive are excited to announce a new Ticket to Ride video game for PC, Consoles and Mobile.

This new game will be a reimagining of the classic edition that you've come to love. While we recognize that change can be bittersweet, we're confident that the new version will captivate you with its enhanced features, modern design, and even more immersive gameplay.
It will be releasing on Steam in November 2023, with the other platforms coming out in 2024.

The new Ticket to Ride game is being developed by Marmalade Games. Their expertise and dedication will ensure that the new version lives up to the high standards you deserve. We’re confident Ticket to Ride is in good hands.

“Having played the board game for two decades now, we are honoured to be trusted with its digital implementation. We are building a modern game that we hope will be the bedrock of this fantastic brand in the digital space” said Mike Willis, co-CEO of Marmalade Game Studio.

What about the current version?

The current version developed by Days of Wonder will be rebranded “Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition” in every store where the game is currently available.
It is important to note that this version of the game will be removed from all the stores from the 3rd of October, and in-app purchases, such as acquiring new maps, will no longer be possible.

While Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition will no longer be available for download from October 3rd, current owners will retain access to the game in their game library and can continue enjoying it without interruption. This change ensures that players who already possess the game and DLCs can play and experience the joy of Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition even after the version becomes unavailable for new downloads.

Thank you for being a part of this extraordinary adventure, and we look forward to sharing the next chapter of the "Ticket to Ride" saga with you.

Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition - Twin Sails Eir
From the craggy hillsides of Edinburgh to the sunlit docks of Constantinople, from the dusty alleys of Pamplona to a windswept station in Berlin, Ticket to Ride Europe takes you on a new train adventure through the great cities of turn-of-the-century Europe. Will you risk a trip through the dark tunnels of Switzerland? Venture aboard a ferry on the Black Sea? Or erect lavish train stations in the great capitals of the old empires? Your next move might just make you Europe’s greatest train magnate! Pack your luggage, hail the porter, and climb aboard!

EUROPE

Released in 2005, Ticket to Ride: Europe takes place on a map of Europe as it was at the turn of the 20th century.

The old continent adds three new mechanics:
  • The ferry routes: they require locomotive cards to be played when claiming them.
  • The tunnel routes: What makes a tunnel special is that you are never quite certain just how long the route you are trying to claim will be! This new mechanic adds the risk that additional train cards may be necessary to complete the route.
  • The train station: they allow you to use one of the routes belonging to another player! Stations may be built in any unoccupied city, but most importantly two players may never build a station in the same city.

Just like the USA 1910 DLC, the Europe DLC adds 3 new modes:
  • Expanded: New destinations only.
  • Mega: New and old destinations for more challenge!
  • Big: With only the destination cards mentioning the big cities.
Get it here:

Travelling through Europe is one thing, visiting it is another! Let’s take a closer look at some specific country maps and their associated DLCs.

FRANCE

Dive into thriving French culture during Impressionism and the Industrial Revolution; street cafes, "Starry Night", Paris boulevards, and Notre-Dame.

The French railroad system is a blank canvas just waiting for your masterful strokes. However, before you can start claiming routes, you'll need to lay the tracks!

Alan R. Moon, creator of the game, has some very useful tips for your France journey:

“You will have to bluff some of the time by building tracks you don't really want. In addition, you may want to build tracks you don't need, forcing your opponents to collect color cards that are in short supply. This will be especially effective if you build lots of tracks of the same color in an area you know your opponents need and you don't. You will build a lot more tracks than you will claim in the game, so there will be many opportunities to bluff, mislead, and be clever. In addition, there is always a chance you can claim a route that another player has built, also making it harder for the opponent to finish his network.”

GERMANY

Turn-of-the-century Germany... Through a fine autumn rain, a plume of smoke announces the arrival of the 4:15 train from Nuremberg in the Munich Central Station. The din of the massive engine grows more intense, culminating with a prolonged hiss as the locomotive halts at the platform, steam erupting in every direction. Already, porters in livery are rushing to unload baggage as passengers step from their cars. On the opposite platform, an operator pulls the cord for a three-chime whistle and another train begins chugging toward its next destination: Berlin, capital of the German empire.

New place, new opportunities: the German Empire is a place with very (very very very) long routes: it will take up to 7 wagons to build some of them!
In this country, when you take destination tickets, you will have to choose four among two stacks.
Long and short routes:
  • 55 Short routes tickets, with a value of 3 to 11 points.
  • 34 Long routes tickets, with a value of 12 to 22 points.
Visit Germany now:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/350272/Ticket_to_Ride__Germany/

Think wisely and always be one step ahead of your opponents, you will be tempted by big investments in long routes that can be wasted by a single missing segment.

You heard the whistle, let's now hop on the train before it leaves the station.

We're still not quite finished with the Old Continent, and we will meet again travelers!
Until next time...
Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition - Asmodee Eir
On a blustery autumn evening, five old friends met in the backroom of one of the city’s oldest and most private clubs. Each had traveled a long distance — from all corners of the world — to meet on this very specific day… October 2, 1900 — 28 years to the day that the London eccentric, Phileas Fogg accepted and then won a £20,000 bet that he could travel Around the World in 80 Days. When the story of Fogg’s triumphant journey filled all the newspapers of the day, the five attended University together. Inspired by his impetuous gamble, and a few pints from the local pub, the group commemorated his circumnavigation with a more modest excursion and wager – a bottle of good claret to the first to make it to Le Procope in Paris. Each succeeding year, they met to celebrate the anniversary and pay tribute to Fogg. And each year a new expedition (always more difficult) with a new wager (always more expensive) was proposed. Now at the dawn of the century, it was time for a new impossible journey. The stakes: $1 Million in a winner-takes-all competition.

The objective: to see which of them could travel by rail to the most cities in North America — in just 7 days. The journey would begin immediately…

This is how the original Ticket to Ride starts and our starting point for this trip Around the World in Eighty Turns.

The physical board game created by Alan R Moon was pitched to Days of Wonder in the World Boardgaming Championships lounge bar before being released in 2004. At that time the game had a different title: Station to Station!

This is the first Ticket to Ride prototype and after a long road, the digital version you know was released in 2011. The tablet version of Ticket to Ride was named the 2011 Digital Game of the Year by the Danish Guldbrikken (The Golden Pawn) Awards, which referred to the game as "the exemplar of how a board game makes the leap to the digital world without compromise”,

Ticket to Ride is easy to learn but always refreshing. Each turn you choose between one of three actions: draw railway cards, draw destination cards or claim a route. You have 45 wagons to place and the game ends when any player has only 2 or fewer left. The longer the routes completed, the more points earned.

Later the expansion “USA 1910” was released to be used with the same map.
USA 1910 also provides 3 new modes:
  • Classic (new destinations only)
  • Mega (New and old destinations for more challenge!)
  • Big (with only the cards mentioning one of the big cities: Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and Seattle).

Oh and one more thing!

The original USA map of Ticket to Ride is not accurate: Duluth is not where it should be.
Duluth was included in Ticket to Ride because of the city's significance to the railroad industry. In the 1800s, Duluth became the first port city with access to both the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans due to the construction of various railways. At one point, Duluth was the busiest port in the United States, eclipsing even New York due to its proximity to various iron mines and its advantageous location.

The 10th Anniversary Edition of Ticket to Ride included a small sign noting Duluth's correct location on the board.

To quote the words of the Days of Wonder team:

“The nature of the gameplay requires us to take liberties with the geographical placement of the cities. Just as in the US map, we decided to make sure that the game plays properly at the expense of some inaccuracies in the city placements. We know that this does offend some, especially those living in those areas that have been adjusted. However, since the games are not intended to be used specifically for educational purposes, we'd rather you get to play a well-balanced game.”

We now reach the end of the first part of our trip.

We will see you soon, travelers!
