The Evil Within 2

Bethesda has updated The Evil Within 2 on PC to include a new difficulty setting, as well as release a trio of cheat codes.

While the bonus content hasn't been formally announced on Bethesda's website, if you're playing on PC and have a linked Bethesda.net account, you can now download all-new nightmare difficulty AKUMU - "to challenge the most die-hard players" - as well as new gameplay options Infinite Stamina, One-Shot Kills, and Invincibility (thanks, PC Gamer).

This isn't the first time developer Tango Gameworks has brought free new features to its open-world horror sequel post-release. In February, it was also updated to include a first-person mode after fans had found a way to unofficially unlock the feature.

The Evil Within 2

Overnight Polygon posted a report about Bethesda threatening an individual with legal action for selling a sealed copy of The Evil Within 2 on Amazon Marketplace.

The legal firm acting on Bethesda's behalf - a company called Vorys - took issue with an individual's labelling of The Evil Within 2 as "new", insisting the individual, a man called Ryan Hupp, was not an authorised reseller and therefore his selling a "new" copy was unlawful.

It seemed like an overreaction by Bethesda, so I asked Pete Hines, senior vice president of marketing and communications, about the issue at QuakeCon 2018 today.

The Evil Within 2

Developer Tango Gameworks' open-world horror sequel The Evil Within 2 has just been updated to include an official first-person mode.

Like its predecessor, The Evil Within 2 unfolds predominantly from a third-person perspective, although several first-person sequences do feature. Following the game's launch on PC, PS4, and Xbox One last year, however, fans quickly discovered that a rudimentary first-person mode could be accessed for an entire play-through by inputting a couple of console commands on the PC version.

That first-person mode has now been polished up and officially incorporated into all versions of The Evil Within 2 as an optional extra, and can be downloaded now in a free update on PC and console. Once you have the latest patch installed, simply toggle first-person mode on in the options menu. And if you're curious to see what The Evil Within 2 looks like through the eyes of its protagonist Sebastian Castellanos, check out the new trailer below.

It's been a bit of a year for Bethesda. Prey, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, Wolfenstein 2 and, of course, The Evil Within 2 all released this year. That's not counting Quake Champions, Elder Scrolls Online: Legends and Doom VFR. Without a massive breakout success in the bunch, it's hardly surprising that Bethesda has become a little mercenary about the pricing of its games post-launch.

Last year's Doom can routinely be picked up for around 10 on consoles, Prey is only months old but has been priced as low as 15 at times, and now its The Evil Within 2's turn to fall in price, albeit not quite as far. This is likely to be a pre-Black Friday price drop, meaning you probably shouldn't expect the price to plummet again anytime soon. As a reminder, we've got guides to the best PS4 Black Friday deals, Xbox Black Friday deals, Nintendo Black Friday deals and much more, just in case you want to keep as up to date as possible.
