Ive noticed some of you are VERY MAD about some recent changes to the game, and some of you are not so mad, hell some of you are even please! . so i wanted to pop in and clear up a few things.

From this point forward, when we update the game with content / balances, we will make sure there is a long list as usual.. AND a short bullet point list of all the biggest changes so you can see how the buffs outweigh the nerfs, in hindsight i think if we had done that last update you may have noticed more of the improvements and let a few of the nerfs slide.

that said, we do hear you.. and as an olive branch id like to offer a small little update, an update that you have control over!

Tell us your top 10 most useless/horrible trinkets.. and we will buff them!

Also please let us know your top 3-5 evil deals you NEVER TAKE as well!

Good morning/afternoon or evening. It is I, Tyrone. A little light reading while you're sitting on the toilet this afternoon. Alex was on there for a while today. Too much spicy Mexican, I guess.

You'd think that going from v1.9.7.10 to v1.9.7.11 would be a very small incremental change. Like, "Hey, we fixed being able to drop bombs while typing in online chat, you're welcome!" But noooo, the Isaac team has been working tirelessly to bring you the following improvements:

Features/Balance Changes:
Adjusted the behavior of Cod Worms staying hidden for long periods of time
Adjusted the behavior of Kineti to only use their rock-grabbing action if they are on screen with the player
Adjusted Blood Cultists to not fire their blood attack from off screen
Lowered the tear height of red champion Mega Fatty’s puke attack so that it doesn’t always fly over Isaac’s head
Siren will no longer charm Isaac’s Heart or Lilith’s Incubus
The Amnesia horse pill will now unidentify all previously identified pills
Tainted Maggy’s bleeding hearts now provide half the charge of a regular heart container when used with Sharp Plug
Tainted ??? will now swap poops and keys when using a Bombs Are Key pill
Added a 1% chance for Wheel of Fortune to spawn a Crane Game
Gave Punching Bag back his ability to block shots
Removed Glowing Hourglass and Book of Shadows from the Tainted Lost pool
Using Meat Cleaver on an angel will now award only one key piece
Delirious has returned to a fixed 12-charge item. Bosses have had their health and damage overhauled. They will take 1 damage per hit and 5 damage from explosions. Spikes, fires and red poops do no damage to them. Their health will deteriorate steadily and their color will slowly turn more gray until they reach 1 health
Delirium Mom’s Foot is no longer sped up when Delirium gets enraged. A minimum delay of one second has been added between transforming into the foot and the stomp attack. While in Mom’s Foot form, Delirium cannot fire additional projectiles. These same behaviors also apply to Satan’s Foot
Replaced Mars’ shield bubble with i-frames which will still allow free entrance into Curse Rooms but will not allow free plays to Devil Beggars and Blood Donation Machines. Impact from a Mars dash no longer creates fissures that destroy rocks. It instead creates a ring of fire that applies the burn status effect
Jar of Wisps has returned to a 12-charge item. Its first use will grant two wisps and every wisp spawned has a high chance to be of a special variety.
Pausing the game with Gitched Crown will not pause the item rotation, and will instead give the rotation a burst of speed
Adjusted the proc chances of several Abyss locusts that were too powerful
Knockback from farting locusts has been increased
Adjusted the stat boost from Star of Bethlehem to match Hallowed Ground
Wisps spawned from The Bean and Kidney Bean will now expire when changing rooms
Completing a Secret Room with a Greed fight will now allow access to adjacent Challenge Rooms
Added enemy spawn indicators for Boss Rush, Challenge Rooms, Great Gideon and Greed Mode
Golden keys and bombs can now be spent at the Key Master and Bomb Bum to guarantee an item drop
Item charging with Battery Bum while holding multiple active items now prioritizes filling up each item before overcharging
Pause (the active item) now synergizes with Black Powder allowing circles to be drawn while a room is paused
Added a very low chance for most bosses to drop a thematic item on death
Increased the range of Dr. Fetus with Number One and Pluto
Ludovico Technique now grants a .2 shot speed increase
If the Mega Satan door has been been opened, using Forget Me Now and restarting the floor will keep door opened
Increased the rarity of D20 in the Greed Shop
Added an option in options.ini to disable the Ascent voiceover
Fully rerolling a character with D4, D100, Dice Room, Missing No., etc. will no longer reroll the starting passive items of a character if they have unlocked them. Using a Stars? card will also not consume starting passives. Starting active items can be rerolled. The items that will not be rerolled are:
Cain: Lucky Foot
Eve: Whore of Babylon and Dead Bird
Samson: Bloody Lust
Lazarus: Anemic
The Lost: Holy Mantle
Lilith: Incubus and Cambion Conception
Bethany: Book of Virtues
Using Clicker to change characters now provides that character’s intrinsic passive items. These items are lost when changing characters again. Reduced the chance of Clicker removing the most recently acquired item to 50%
Added various new sound effects
Daily Runs:
Using Meat Cleaver during daily runs will cause each resulting split monster to give half of its normal score
Frozen enemies will count as being killed and will award score in daily runs
Killing Uriel and Gabriel during a daily run will now only award score the first time each is killed
Stage bonus in daily runs has been modified to accommodate different end goals
Stage bonus is fixed for each stage. XL stages now award the stage bonus for both floors. Using a Forget Me Now or a 5-pip Dice Room will not award additional stage bonus
Using a Forget Me Now during a daily run will now award half the exploration bonus during the repeated floor. Any additional replayed floors will not grant any exploration bonus
Fixed an issue where using Forget Me Now on the final floor of a daily run would result in an incorrect time on the score summary
Fixed an issue where quitting a practice daily would reset the daily win streak
Exploration bonus from red rooms opened with Red Key, Crystal Key, Soul of Cain and the Moon? is capped at 2,000 points, after which they award no exploration bonus
Added Alt Path, Home and Delirium to the daily rotation. The new schedule is:
Monday: Mother
Tuesday: Tainted Characters
Wednesday: Delirium

It’s me, Tyrone, here to tell you about some stuff. The good stuff

We've been hard at work on the next patch for Repentance+, and there’s a lot coming your way. There are loads of bug fixes, optimizations to online modes, balance tweaking and feature improvements that we hope veteran and beginner players will both appreciate.

Here’s one cool addition that you can look forward to. You know how the Key Master and Bomb Beggar often get overlooked, because you don’t want to use up too many of your resources to keep gambling for their big payouts? Well, pretty soon you’ll be able to pay them with a golden bomb or key to receive their item payout instantly – at the cost of that golden status, of course. There are some more changes in store that I can’t tell you about just yet, but please look forward to the next update.

Some of you may have seen us messing around with AI-controlled Isaac over on my Twitch stream. We’ve enabled chat commands, where viewers can make Isaac move to specific spots, attack, bomb and use his active item, all through Twitch chat.

It’s been fun watching the community try to complete runs together. We’re working on more ways for chat to interact and team up. If you have specific commands you’d like to suggest, please let us know. More to come on that, too!

Now here is Edmund to talk a little bit about a project that’s near and dear to his heart: his next game, Mewgenics.

Edmund here. Sorry for hijacking the Isaac blog. I promise to only do it one more time.

So, for those of you who don’t know, I’ve been working for a very long time on an endless cat-breeding RPG called Mewgenics. If you love Isaac, you’re going to feel right at home in this one.

Mewgenics is built with the replayability, randomization and strategic depth that made Isaac so addictive. It has branching paths, tons of items, spells and mutations to discover. The game genre is completely different, but it’s designed to keep you coming back again and again, just like Isaac.


Mewgenics actually takes place in the same town where Isaac and his mother lived. So if you’ve spent any time getting lost in the lore of Isaac, there are definitely some cool connections to watch for. And the soundtrack by Ridiculon is the best they’ve ever done.

If you’re someone who loves the challenge of Isaac’s endless replayability, and enjoys unlocking new items and exploring new combinations, I really think Mewgenics is going to scratch that same itch.

There’s an absurd amount of depth, and you can easily sink hundreds of hours into the game without seeing everything we crammed in there. It’s got the same charm, the same humor and the layers of complexity you’ve come to expect from my stuff. It really feels like the culmination of my experience making games.

If you haven't seen the Mewgenics trailer I just released, please check it out and share it with your friends and family. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how familiar it feels, even though it’s something new. Go add it to your Steam wishlist and get ready because it's finally coming!

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth - ty


Herro, it is I Tyrone. As promised, the new Repentance+ free DLC update is here, today, now! You’ll need all the previous DLC to run it.

This is a full-featured release, but we’re calling it a Beta still, because we’re still looking to refine things and squash any remaining bugs. You can do your part to help us by reporting any bugs, desyncs or crashes to isaac@nicalis.com with the subject line #Repentance+Beta v1.9.7.4


Please Include the version number in the subject line and be as detailed as possible when describing the issue. An example of a bad bug report would be “I crashed when fighting Monstro.” A much more useful explanation for the devs would be “In an online match with 3 players, I crashed when I used Crack the Sky during the Monstro fight.” Include the seed if possible and your crash log that can be found here: Documents\My Games\Binding of Isaac Repentance+\crash_dumps. This helps us greatly in focusing on the issue at hand and getting it resolved quickly.

If you played the Isaac Online Alpha back in January, you already know how some of the online stuff works. But a lot more features have been added since then, including support for all game modes, lots of filtering options (when creating or searching for an online match) and a new emote wheel (press the left Alt key or click the Right Stick on a controller to access it). We even added separate “group” leaderboards for online Daily Runs.

And that ain’t all. Look for lots of balancing adjustments and item upgrades—all buffs!—that’ll turn some of your least favorite items into some of your new favorites. Details in the changelog below. Also, some Commonly Asked Questions below (Edmund calls them CAQ, rhymes Ipecac!)

Q: What can I do online?
A: What you do online is between you and your webcam. But as it related to Isaac, you can play Normal, Hard, Greed, Greedier or Challenges as well as Daily Runs and seeded runs with up to three friends or with strangers.

Q: Can I earn achievements in online play?
A: Yes! All unlocks that can be earned in solo play can also be earned online. Be aware that you’ll have to be in a match from the beginning in order to be eligible for unlocks; joining a run in progress does not allow achievements to be unlocked.

Q: Are there things in online play that don’t appear in solo play?
A: Online play has a few differences from solo play. Defeated bosses will drop an item for each player in the match. If a match is joined in progress, the new player will be granted several items to catch them up based on how far along the run is. Players can spend coins at the revive machine in the starting room of each floor to bring back dead players. Be warned, however, that the cost goes up each time the machine is used. Defeating a boss at the end of the stage will also revive any dead players. There might be some other special things to discover online as well!

Q: Do I need the online achievements to unlock Dead God?
A: If you have not yet completed your Dead God file, you will need the online achievements in order to get it. If you already have Dead God, you will not need the online achievements in order to keep it.

Q: Can I play with mods online?
A: No, all mods must be disabled and the game restarted in order to play online.

Q: Where are my mods?
A: Repentance+ has its own mods folder located here: C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Documents\My Games\Binding of Isaac Repentance+\mods however, it is empty. Mod creators will need to update their mods for compatibility. If you copy Repentance or AB+ mods into this folder, you DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK as things are likely to break.

Q: Did anything change in solo play?
A: Yes! There are many item improvements and reworks to experiment with, and many fixes and quality-of-life adjustments made to both solo and online play.

Q: What if I desync or find a bug?
A: If you encounter any issues, please submit a report! Send an email to isaac@nicalis.com with the subject line: #Repentance+Beta v1.9.7.4 (or newer if you are on a more current version)
Be as detailed as possible in your report, including what occurred and when, a seed, what items players had and any relevant files.

Item Changes:
Tammy’s Head - Reduced the duration of the animation when using Tammy’s Head, allowing Isaac to fire more quickly after use.
Lemon Mishap - Slightly increased the size of the puddle. Also, the puddle will now persist until Isaac exits the room.
Mega Bean - Creates a catastrophic fart that sweeps the entire room.
Milk! - The familiar now follows closely behind Isaac and blocks shots. After 10 hits, the glass will break and give Isaac a Tears upgrade for the remainder of the floor.
Delirious - Summoned bosses will now persist through rooms. Only one boss can be active at a time. The charge is now variable, based on the quality of the previously summoned boss.
Jar of Wisps - Reduced to a 6-room charge, allowing the wisps to stack up to the maximum number more quickly.
Abyss - Item quality now impacts the damage of the summoned locust. Locusts now inherit many different effects based on the item destroyed by Abyss.
Flip - Charge has been reduced to 4 rooms for Tainted Lazarus only.
Portable Slot - Removed from the Shop pool. Added as a possible reward from slot machines.
Void - Charge has been reduced from 6 rooms to 4.
Epiphora - The Tears upgrade from firing in a single direction is now a smooth increase, instead of being staggered every few seconds.
God’s Flesh - Doubled the chance of shrink tears firing. Shrunken enemies now briefly flash white before growing back to full size. Enemies that explode, fire shots or summon minions on death can no longer hurt Isaac if they’re killed while shrunken.
Hushy - While held in place, Hushy now fires radial bursts of shots.
It Hurts - After taking damage, Isaac’s tears will now leave behind small pools of blood creep for the room.
Mars - In addition to being invulnerable when charging, Isaac will gain a 1-second bubble of invulnerability after the charge. Hitting obstacles also causes a knockback effect to clear any threats from the surrounding area.
Evil Charm - Isaac now gains immunity to spider-web slowdown, flame attacks, fireplaces and poison mushrooms. Isaac can also stand in enemy creep for 1 second before taking damage.
Vasculitis - Friendly radial shots fired after killing an enemy will now appear as blood clots to more easily distinguish them.
Lil’ Portal - Has been completely reworked. Double-tapping a fire button is now required to launch Lil’ Portal. After it has consumed enough items and the room is clear, a single portal will spawn and the familiar will now disappear for the remainder of the floor. Entering this portal now takes Isaac to a room where he can pick up or drop off items. This room persists throughout the rest of the current run.
Linger Bean - The fart cloud is now deployed after 4 seconds of continuous fire (instead of 7 seconds). The cloud starts small and potent, and will grow and deal reduced damage over the course of 10 seconds.
Jupiter - Now heals 2 red hearts instead of just ½.
Butter Bean - Recharge time has been reduced from 3 seconds to 2.
The Bean - Can now be re-used after a 4-second cooldown (instead of a room charge).
Kidney Bean - Can now be re-used after a 4-second cooldown (instead of a room charge).
Dead Bird - Will remain active between rooms as long as the player is at ½ heart. (Note: Eve requires 1 full heart.)
Data Miner - Using Data Miner in a room with an item pedestal will now reroll it into a glitched item.

Fixes:
Bomb rocks can now create bridges across chasms.
Fixed a bug where Technology 2 and Mom’s Eye could cause backward-firing shots to do excessive damage.
Fixed an issue with the D4 unintentionally being able to force all items in a particular pool to reroll.
Parasitoid egg sacs can now be created from Technology shots and Brimstone beams.
When picking up cards/pills/runes with tainted characters who carry eternal items, the consumable is now placed behind the item and can be manually selected, avoiding unintentional uses.
The Tick trinket can now be removed by picking up the Lighter trinket.
The 404 Error trinket now shows which trinket it is emulating.
The Short Fuse trinket now makes Bombs deal 15% more damage.
The number of hits required to make the Tonsil trinket create a familiar has been reduced from 12-20 to 6-12.
Increased the chances of the Wish Bone and Bag Lunch trinkets spawning an item.
Lil Delirium now contributes to the Conjoined transformation.
Once it’s been unlocked, the Void portal is now guaranteed after defeating The Lamb, ??? and Mega Satan.
Added several new Eden hairstyles.
Fixed Hush attacking more aggressively than intended when below 50% HP.
Fixed Pay to Play challenge incorrectly requiring Mr. Mega to be unlocked.
Removed E. Coli from Scat Man challenge, as it made the player virtually invincible.
Fixed enemy tear projectiles not having the same collision size as blood projectiles.
Fixed being able to reroll some enemies that shouldn't be rerollable (i.e. Eternal Flies, evolved Blood Puppies and Rag Mega's purple light beam attack)
Reverted Flesh Death Head's base HP from 30 back to its original value of 50.
Increased the shadow size of Ultra Greed's coins to make them easier to see when falling.
Ultra Greed's coins can now be devolved into coin pickups using the D10.
Stone Eyes now do a full turn before they start firing their laser. (This prevents some unfair damage scenarios when entering a room from the bottom door.)
Fixed Shell Games showing an outdated sprite when the prize is Skatole.
Added Skeleton Key, Best Bud, Angry Fly and Sharp Key to the Key Beggar's prize pool.
Fixed several items that were missing from Greed Mode's item pools.
Added several baby familiars to the Baby Shop pool which were previously missing, and removed Sacrificial Dagger from the Baby Shop pool.
Fixed Guppy transformation not granting flight when obtained from Kid's Drawing.
Fixed Candy Heart and Soul Locket not updating stats when dropped and picked back up.
Adjusted the price of several items in the Stairway shop.
Lowered the devil price of Ocular Rift.
Lowered the shop price of D12 and Pause in Greed Mode.
Fixed D Infinity displaying the wrong number of charges when first picked up.
Fixed Death's List, Sanguine Bond and Member Card not working with Tainted Lazarus when held by his inactive form.
Made Goat Head, D7, Poke Go, Child's Heart, Mom's Pearl, Black Lipstick and Bible Tract unobtainable in Greed Mode.
Made the Amnesia and ??? pills unobtainable in Greed Mode.
Fixed Bird's Eye, Cube Baby, Poke Go and Blood Puppy not being summonable by Lemegeton.
Fixed several familiars not being summonable by Monster Manual.
Lowered the mimic charge of Soul of Judas from 3 to 2.

The binding of isaac Rebirth just turned 10 and to celebrate we have announced that Repentance will be getting a FREE DLC called "isaac online" a dedicated online co-op mode that releases on the 18th! this update will also come with a ton of item balance updates (all buffs!)

Keep in mind this DLC will only be accessible to those who own the full Rebirth DLC collection so if you are missing Repentance and want in go grab them while they are on sale this week!

Welcome back to the Isaac Online BetaAlpha! We have some bug fixes and game improvements ready for you all!

As mentioned last time, this is a Beta Alpha, so not all planned features and game modes are available right now. We also STRONGLY RECOMMEND that all players participating in the Beta Alpha make backup copies of your save data files in a safe folder. For those who have made backups but lost their progress marks, the steps to get your back is at the end of this post.

Include the version number in your subject line, in the exact format listed above. This is very important for us to filter and keep track of the most current issues. The version number can be found on the title screen, main menu, online menu, lobby screen and in-game pause menu. It's everywhere now :)

If you encounter a crash, your crash log files are extremely helpful for us to diagnose the issue. Here's where to find them.

In a file explorer window, navigate to Documents>My Games>Binding of Isaac Repentance>crash_dumps

There are 2 files for each crash, A DMP file and a TXT file. Attach both of these to your email and our developer wizards will be very happy."

ONLINE BETA OPT-IN



Are you ready for round 2? Here's how to start playing online:
Step 1: Have The Binding of Isaac: Repentance installed in your Steam Library
Step 2: right-click on the title in your library and select Properties
Step 3: go to the Betas tab and type the beta key [insert beta key] into the Private Betas box and click Check Code.
Step 4: Click the button that will appear that says "Opt in to [beta branch name]. You should then also see [beta branch name] in the Betas Participation box in that same tab.

Following this, your game should update, and the next time you launch it you should see "Online Beta" at the title screen, and the "Online" option at the main menu.
To return to the standard release version of Repentance, simply open the Betas tab again and set the Betas Participation tab to "None".

Lost Completion Marks
Here are the steps that should help in restoring your missing Completion Marks, if this issue has affected you.
Step 1: Have your save file backups handy! Hopefully you heeded our advice in the Online Beta announcement post to make save file backups before joining the Beta, because without them, this method will not work.

Step 2: In your Steam library, right click on The Binding of Isaac and open the ‘Properties’ window

Step 3: On the ‘General’ Properties tab, click on the ‘Steam Cloud’ switch to temporarily disable the Steam Cloud function.

Step 4: Open the folder where your active Binding of Isaac save files are kept. Take the backup save file you want to use, and copy it into this folder. Rename this file “persistentgamedata1.dat” for it to take the place of your slot 1 save. For save slots 2 and 3, copy backup saves to this folder and rename them “persistentgamedata2.dat” and “persistentgamedata3.dat”, respectively.

Step 5: Next, launch the game. At the save file select screen, you should now see your backup save files restored, and when you go to the character select screen, you should see your Completion Marks restored as well.

Step 6: Close the game, then open the ‘Properties” window again, and click the Steam Cloud switch again to turn the Steam Cloud function back on.

Step 7: Launch the game again. Steam should notify you that the Steam Cloud files and local files do not match, and will prompt you to proceed with either the local files or the cloud files. Choose ‘local files’, and the backup saves you just copied will overwrite the Steam Cloud files.

From there, the game should again function normally, with your Completion Marks restored.
