Telltale Games' wonderful Tales from the Borderlands, a deliriously daft narrative adventure inspired by Gearbox's popular series of first-person shooters, will finally return to digital storefronts next Wednesday, 17th February, following its delisting in the middle of 2019.

Tales from the Borderlands originally released in 2014, and, for my money at least, is easily the best thing Telltale ever made. It smoothes off the mainline Borderlands series' more abrasive edges to deliver a genuinely funny, and surprisingly touching, five-episode adventure focusing on Hyperion employee Rhys (played by Troy Baker) and Pandoran con-artist Fiona (Fiona Bailey) as they attempt to locate and open a Vault.

It follows Telltales' usual cinematic narrative adventure formula, but nails it on just about every front, with bags of style and wit, a surprisingly gripping plot, an immensely likeable cast of characters, brilliant set-pieces, and, oh yes, not one but five of the most joyously memorable intro sequences ever committed to video game.

Telltale Games, the defunct developer behind the likes of The Walking Dead, Tales from the Borderlands, and The Wolf Among Us, is set to make a return - albeit in a substantially different form - following the announcement that holding company LCG Entertainment has secured Telltale's name and some of its licenses.

As reported by Polygon, the new version of Telltale - overseen by Jamie Ottilie and Brian Waddle, founder and CEO of developer Galaxy Pest Control and ex-sales-and-marketing head for Havok respectively - will have the back-catalogue rights to The Wolf Among Us and Batman, alongside original Telltale properties including Puzzle Agent. As such, some games de-listed from digital storefronts earlier this year could potentially soon make a return.

Furthermore, while the new Telltale plans to "stay small over the next six months", it appears that a number of the 250-plus employees laid-off prior to the studio's closure last September have been bought into the fold. According to Polygon, some previous staff members have been offered freelance roles, "with full-time positions possible in the future."

UPDATE 4.30PM: 2K Games has confirmed to Eurogamer it is working to get Tales from the Borderlands back on sale as soon as possible. As we reported below, it was recently pulled from Steam and will be removed from GOG on Monday, alongside many other titles from the now defunct Telltale Games.

"We are working to get Tales from the Borderlands back up on digital storefronts as soon as possible," a 2K spokesperson told us. "All prior digital purchases of the game will of course still be honoured and supported."

It's good to see one of Telltale's best games secured - especially as its characters tie-in to the upcoming Borderlands 3. Here's hoping other Telltale series get picked up as well.
