The good news are that we have here the new update, with some new missions, more steam achievements, improved content and bug fixes.

We're still improving the game and a new update will be released next month.

Hi everyone!

Just a quick update on what we’re working on.

The next update, which should be released in early March, will add more quest fixes focusing on bugs found in the main storyline and companion loyalty missions. We’ll be improving medieval era cutscenes and fixing a bug that stops some companion torque scenes from triggering. More fixes will be included in this update solving problems with party selection, quest selection, some codexes not unlocking properly, and other smaller bugs.

We have another update planned for early April focusing on a variety of bug fixes, gameplay tweaks, and improvements to boss battles. We’re going to add new quests for Tiana and Lugaid in this update along with new Steam achievements for some of the final quests as well.

The last update planned in our roadmap, currently set for early May, will address game performance, especially in bigger medieval maps. It will include improvements to player progression and game balance. Revisions to English text and missing translations will also be included in this update. We’ll also be taking a look at experience and loot earned during some quests at this time.

Once these updates are done, we’ll assess reported issues and make plans for the next update depending on known bugs.

So sorry this has taken so long. We’ve been head-down fixing many of the issues that have been shared with us since launch.

Today, we’re releasing the first major update to The Waylanders. This update brings some much needed fixes to some critical issues that the game including:

A bug that stopped Ynes´ Mission from finishing correctly
A critical Direct3D bug affecting configuring the game in fullscreen
Mission markers should now show correctly throughout The Waylanders
We’ve fixed level milestones
Animations in many cinematics have been improved

Again, we appreciate your patience and apologize for the delay on these fixes. We’re now working on our next update. We’re still triaging known issues and hope to have a roadmap available soon.

The Waylanders is out today! This is a project we’ve been working on for the last five years and I am so incredibly proud of the journey this team has taken us on. This is a story born of our Galician roots and many of the tales of our heritage have inspired elements throughout the game.
First, we have an amazing trailer to share with you. I hope you enjoy it!



Thank you so much to the entire Early Access community and our early backers for all your feedback and time spent exploring the Celtic Era. Your suggestions and bug reports have made The Waylanders a better game and pushed us to examine certain quality-of-life features that weren’t on our development schedule when we started, but with them, The Waylanders is much improved.

In an earlier post, we’d mentioned that the price of The Waylanders would be increasing. We have decided to hold off on increasing the price to $39.99 until at least a few updates have been made. We have also increased the launch discount to 20% off.

Now, we’d hoped that The Waylanders would not need a massive day one update… but it does. There are a few minor bugs in the Celtic Era that need to be addressed and some big ones that begin to pop up in the medieval period that reviewers with early builds of the game have made us aware of. We are actively working on a series of hotfixes and updates to bring The Waylanders up to a level of quality that you all deserve.

The first of these hotfixes, addressing issues with quest markers and main story bugs that occur when a cinematic should trigger but doesn’t, as well as minor bug fixes throughout the game, should be available soon. This will be followed by additional updates fixing bugs, polishing the game, and adding missing translated text that will be released in the days and weeks ahead. We’re working out the schedule right now and will have another community post up in the next day or two with a roadmap giving you an idea of what we’re working on and when it will be fixed.

At the end of these improvement updates, we’re going to look at adding quests, items, and other content left on the cutting room floor. These won’t impact the story overall, but will serve as fun new discoveries for players who return to The Waylanders to experience the story again with a new character.

Oh, and for our music fans, The Waylanders Official Soundtrack will be available on Steam and GOG shortly. Watch out for an announcement on here about that soon!

Happy New Year! In under a month, you’ll be jumping into the full release of The Waylanders and we can’t wait to see how you like the continuation of the story.

Stepping forward a thousand years has absolutely changed the land and the people who inhabit it. Villages have become forts and castles, stone roads have replaced dirt trails, and creatures of magic have gone into hiding. Your companions will change too. Rediscover mortals reborn and seek out immortal friends who have traveled the thousand year road the hard way.

With advances in crafting, the medieval period holds a whole host of new weapons, armor, and other items to discover and outfit your party with. There’s a lot coming for you to discover!



Now, on to a few things ahead of launch.

All That Glitters is Morian Gold
At full release, The Waylanders will increase in price from $34.99 USD to $39.99 USD. This increase will vary from region to region and serves to reflect the extra content available.

To offset this increase for RPG fans who haven’t yet jumped in to The Waylanders (and don’t read our community posts) during Early Access, we plan to have the game discounted by 10% for 2 weeks after launch. Beyond that launch discount, you’ll see The Waylanders in future Steam sales.

We truly appreciate the support of everyone who played during Early Access, especially those who gave feedback or let us know about a bug. Thank you all so much!

That Which Was Written Will Be Lost
Unfortunately Early Access save files will not work correctly in the launch build. We know all you Early Access players have put a lot of time into your characters and we’ve looked into many possibilities in how to address this, but we are a small team and have not been able to find a feasible way to make old saves work well.

While you can make copies of your old save files and place them in the save directory, we don’t advise this as doing so can create potentially game breaking bugs in later areas.


The Story Is Over, But The Work Continues
No story DLC is currently planned for The Waylanders. After launch, we plan to continue work on The Waylanders, fixing bugs and addressing community feedback that we hear here in the Steam Community, on social media, and in Discord. Watch for updates after launch with fixes, tweaks, and maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe a few extra quests we’d like to add.

Music for the Ages
At launch, The Waylanders soundtrack will be made available for purchase so The Waylanders fans can have a taste of Inon Zur’s magic whenever they wish. The soundtrack will have 26 tracks totalling approximately 48 minutes long

We’ll have more details up on the soundtrack’s Steam page which will go live at launch.

Distant Digital Lands
While PC has always been our focus for The Waylanders, we’ve had a lot of requests to have The Waylanders reach other platforms. This is something we’re looking into, but for now we want to focus on ensuring our fans who have committed to the journey on PC have the best experience we can craft.

That’s all from us for now. We’ll have a little more to share before launch, but will largely be focused on polishing The Waylanders for release. Again, thank you all for being along for this journey!

As you already know, The Waylanders final release has been set for February 2, 2022. To tide you over, we hope you enjoy today’s 0.35b update which adds flavor to the current scenarios and provides a whole batch of new bug fixes.

We’ve flavored many environments with multiple new assets. We believe, this change improves immersion while making each location more unique and richer in detail. We’ve added better lighting, fire, Celtic runes, tree branches between stones, and more to many locations. Each new asset adds personality to The Waylanders world. With this update, we’ve overhauled Ireland, Fomorian Caves, Mount Medhu, Cave of Destiny, and Cave of Eternity.

Ireland
When you arrive in Ireland, you find this land is full of chaos. In the new version, you can feel the smell of fire, blood, and dirt with the latest additions:

Other changes

Added a notification in the HUD when you have new messages available in the crow’s post.

Bugfixing
We’ve fixed several major bugs, including:
  • Some companion romances couldn’t start due to a major bug. Now fixed.
  • Added portraits of the companions when you select them in the party selection menu.
  • Fixed a bug that caused some characters to disappear in cutscenes at the end of Act 1.
  • Fixed texts that were appearing in the wrong language.
  • Multiple minor bugs fixed.

Dear The Waylanders fans,

We’ve made the decision to delay the launch of The Waylanders to February 2, 2022.

Releasing this month as we’d planned would not provide the quality experience our fans deserve. While we have been working hard to get all our backers and Early Access players the RPG they’d been hoping for before the holidays, we’ve done an internal review pass on The Waylanders and our team needs more time to polish the game.

Developing during Covid has been challenging for many teams, including ours, and rushing The Waylanders out the door after nearly four years of development will not make anyone happy.

To help tide players over until the new release date, The Waylanders Early Access build will receive new updates, improving several currently available areas of the game, such as The Cave of Eternity and the Fomorian World in The Corrupted Cove. The update will also add remaining text localization for multiple Celtic era quests and fix community reported bugs.

The Waylanders will have over two hours of cinematics and more than thirty hours of gameplay, and we want to provide the best possible version of this story to all of you.

Romance System



One of the most requested features by RPG fans - and our amazing community in particular - is the ability to explore the passionate world of character romance, and we’re thrilled to announce that it’s here! You will be able to flirt with multiple characters throughout your adventure, the way you want to, and with no limitations in terms of race, class, or gender.



Available characters in Romance System:
  • Nazhedja
  • Lugaid
  • Tiana
  • Amergin
  • Berath
  • Delba
  • Heraklios
  • Brigg
  • Khaldun
  • Mal
With Romance System, each decision will impact on the perception the characters have of you. The moment you are attractive enough to either of them, you can talk about your feelings and start a romance if the attraction is mutual.

NOTE: The Romance System works in old saved games, but some characters will need specific events to reach enough Romance points. For example, some characters add Romance points after completing some quests. If you completed that mission before the update, the Romance System may not work properly. If you want to fully enjoy romance features, we recommend starting a new game.

New Equipment



We’ve additionally added more than 50 new items! There are more weapons, armors, shields, equipment, and new ways to fight enemies and show off your amazing custom character!

Steam Achievements
Good news for players who like to compete with themselves. Achievements have been added and can be unlocked by playing The Waylanders! Are you ready to complete 67 different challenges?

More lore
We’ve added new entries in the Codex. You’ll find new content for characters, locations and story. Read up and fully immerse yourself in the extended world of The Waylanders.

Bug fixing
We’ve fixed some bugs:
  • The tutorial froze when you deselected one of the companions after making a Formation.
  • Some items disappeared from the inventory, after you canceled the action of removing that item.
  • Sound adjustments in several cinemactics.
  • Sometimes, the game crashed when you deleted a character profile
  • Fixed some bugs related with the fade to black effect at the beginning of the game.

Alpha 0.33 brings a whole bunch of new features, many requested by our community: new pets available, a new type of missions (Chore Quests), improved tutorial, corrections in the camera, and revised enemy distribution... Keep reading to find out more!

Pets Unlocked!



This update gives you access to 5 pets for any Ranger character. Initially, your Ranger character's pet depended on your selected race:
  • Mourian: Panther
  • Werewolf: Wolf
  • Human: Boar
  • Half-Fomorian: Spider

The Wolf, available only for werewolf Rangers in previous versions

Starting with this update, we’re adding several missions that will unlock these 4 pets for any Ranger. Specifically, they will unlock by completing the Loyalty Quests of these characters:
  • Berath: Panther
  • Mal: Wolf
  • Brigg: Boar
  • Xerion: Spider

Now the Boar is not limited to Humans

But that’s not all! In addition to unlocking these 4 pets for any Ranger, we have added an additional pet. The most dangerous beast of all: the Rabbit.


Looks cute, hits hard

Despite its charming appearance, the Rabbit hits harder than it looks at first glance. You will be able to unlock this pet through a Chore Quest in which you will have to find Goblin masks (you can read more information about the chore quests below).

Ranger Advanced Class Sneak Peek
Since we’re talking about pets, let’s take a quick look at what’s to come for Rangers. The Ranger class will receive much more content in the final version of the game as Advanced Classes are added. We have 3 advanced classes planned: Hunter, Draconic Master and Saboteur. And to go along with these new classes, we’ll be adding... 7 additional pets (two dragon types, a dog, a deer, a bear, a raven, and a magpie)! Here's a little preview of what to expect in the future:

Chore quests
We've added a new type of mission category: Chore Quests! These are small tasks activated by talking to certain NPCs throughout the world of The Waylanders. Complete them to unlock additional lore entries in your Codex as well as some small rewards. One of those rewards is the Rabbit, unlocked by completing the Chore Quest "Where did the Goblins go?"



We've added 5 Chore Quests in this update:
  • The Brotherhood of Blacksmiths
  • The Ultimate Stew
  • Godiva in Love
  • The Beasts of Alucio
  • Where Did the Goblins Go?
Don't forget to talk to NPCs you find in your adventure. You never know who may need your help! More Chore Quests will be added in future updates and when The Waylanders exits Early Access.

Tutorial



We have modified the tutorial, expanding and adding greater detail for sections including:
  • Consumable items
  • How the Ability Queue works
  • Equipment
  • How the Formations work
In addition, we have included tooltips in the first scenarios of the game to guide the player during their initial steps in the world of The Waylanders.

Camera system
We have reviewed camera behavior to improve handling and avoid problems at certain points where players have reported a bad experience. In addition, some changes have also been made to scenarios to avoid obstacles that reduce visibility and impede control of the camera.

Enemy distribution
Building on last month’s update adding new difficulty settings, we’ve reviewed enemy encounters available in Early Access. Some encounters have been improved by adjusting the number, type, and distribution of enemies to improve the gameplay experience on those maps.

Bugfixing
  • We have resolved a bug that caused the mouse to not work correctly when interacting with some elements of the stage
  • Minor bugs fixed
