TEKKEN 7

Bandai Namco has announced a new Tekken 7 Legendary Edition - but there's a catch.

While this new boxed version of the 3D fighting game, which appears to be Europe-only, includes all 36 characters available in the base version of Tekken 7, it only includes eight of the 15 DLC characters.

We can see the eight included DLC characters on the box art for this Legendary Edition: Armor King, Anna Williams, Craig Marduk, Julia Chang, Lei Wulong, Zafina, Ganryu and Kunimitsu.

Tekken 7's next DLC character is Lidia Sobieska, who in the Tekken universe is the Polish prime minister.

Here's the official blurb:

"Lidia has always been an upright and resolute woman. She believes that justice requires absolute power, which is why she has shown great interest in karate from a very young age. The loss of her father stoked her interest in the family tradition of politics. Lidia showed great qualities in both areas, entering and winning her first karate world championship at 18, and more recently being one of the youngest rising stars in the Polish political arena. The war started by the Mishima Zaibatsu is greatly affecting Poland and she is committed to settle the situation with her own fists.

UPDATE 28th September 2020: As expected, Bandai Namco has announced Kunimitsu as a DLC character for Tekken 7, alongside a roadmap for the game.

Tekken 7's Kunimitsu is in fact the daughter of the Kunimitsu whose last canonical appearance was 25 years ago in Tekken 2. This new Kunimitsu happily throws off her mask - something her mother never did. We also see her face off against fellow ninja Yoshimitsu in the new Vermilion Gates stage - and steal his Manji blade. He seems upset!

Season Pass 4 gets you Kunimitsu and the new Vermilion Gates stage this autumn. Then, in early spring 2021, there's a new DLC character and stage.

Tekken 7 is getting a fourth season.

A video announcing Season 4 of Bandai Namco's PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One fighting game reveals plans for a complete balance sweep, with every character getting new moves. For example, Korean Taekwondo expert Hwoarang has a new hop kick, and American hothead Paul Phoenix has a new shoulder charge.

There's also a new online ranking system called Tekken Prowess to work towards, as well as an improved online experience, although we don't know much about exactly what that entails. We do see a glimpse at the new opponent found screen, which now lets you see if your opponent is on a Wi-Fi connection and their disconnection rate before you accept the match.

Bandai Namco has unveiled two new Tekken 7 fighters - Muay Thai champion Fahkumram and Ganryu.

"Introducing Muay Thai champion Fahkumram - he's ready to enter the ring to fight for his family's freedom!" the publisher teased in the video description after the character was formally revealed at the Tekken World Tour Finals 2019.

If you think Fahkumram - a name that reportedly means "roaring sky," or "thunder", according to Polygon - looks familiar, you're not alone. Standing at 7'5", many fans think Fahkumram bears a striking resemblance to Street Fighter's Sagat.

Early August 2019, Evo - the world's largest fighting game tournament - concluded on a tragic note. What should have been a weekend that ended with celebration was instead tarnished by reports of sexual harassment and spiked drinks at the event's afterparties.

What followed was a surge of support from many of the most prominent voices within the fighting game community (FGC). Victims spoke out about their past traumas, and there was a collective call for action. In what can be interpreted as the FGC's very own Me Too movement, well-known figures in the community, such as competitor Leah "Gllty" Hayes and photographer Chris Bahn, had allegations raised against them, resulting in public apologies from the pair and a ban forbidding them from entering some of the USA's largest tournaments.

This recent turmoil has raised uncomfortable and important questions about the FGC, on whether those guilty of these actions are simply bad actors, or whether the FGC has a deep-rooted problem at its core. I talked with women in the community who've worked in this environment long enough to know the reality of what it's like at these events, about their thoughts on the culture, recent allegations, and what needs to change.
