Seven: Enhanced Edition - contact@rockpapershotgun.com (Matt Cox)

I haven’t played more than a couple of hours, but I’m going to go ahead and declare that 2017’s Seven: The Days Long Gone was largely overlooked. It’s a stealthy isometric RPG with parkour and techno-wizadry, which is basically just a list of words I want to get in a bath with. Now even more so, thanks to a free Enhanced Edition update that adds new opponents, weapons and more to the main game, and a seven (seven!) hour romp through a submarine in the Drowned Past expansion.

Stealthy sci-fi action RPG Seven: The Days Long Gone was one of the more curious games of 2017. An unusual blend of genres and some slightly patchy design had our man Alec internally debating whether it was rubbish or brilliant, but skewing towards greatness. The folks at Fool’s Theory and IMGN.PRO have apparently been hammering away at the game ever since launch, getting it tuned up for a console release. On March 26th, we get to enjoy the fruits of their labour, as all owners of the game get a free upgrade to the Enhanced Edition, including the delayed Drowned Past expansion. See the re-release trailer below.

seven

I was really tempted to pick up stealth-action RPG Seven: The Days Long Gone over Christmas, but three things stopped me. 1) I wasn’t sure I’d like it, 2) most people said it was buggy and 3) it was priced just a little bit too high. Yesterday, those sneaky devs and publishers launched a three pronged attack to win over me and my fellow free-running fence sitters, and by ‘sneaky’ I mean ‘smart and good’.

The game now has demo that lasts about an hour, an update that’s cleared up a bunch of bugs and improved some core parts of the game, and a 30% discount that lasts until January 29th. After playing the demo, I’ve somersaulted off my fence of indecision and landed on the side that’s left me 19.59 out of pocket but with a promising RPG to sink my teeth into.

Truth be told, I really wasn’t sure what Seven: The Days Long Gone, a stealth-centric roleplaying game from a studio lead by ex-Witcher folk, was until I played it. Was it a traditional isometric RPG starring a sole rogue? Was it isometric Assassin’s Creed? Hell, was it sci-fi or was it fantasy? The answer turns out to be ‘all of the above’ – to the point that the new tools Seven adds to the cRPG lexicon are ones I’m not sure I could go without from hereon in. (more…)

Seven Days Long Gone are otherwise known as "last week"

What the hell is Seven: The Days Long Gone? Is it cyberpunk or technofantasy? Is it an isometric homage to Thief, or an open-world version of Shadow Tactics, or some kind of bug-eyed, zoomed-out Assassin s Creed? It s too early in the day (half past twelve in the afternoon) for me to answer these questions with any clarity. But the developers would probably say it s all of the above. It s out today if you badly wanted to find out. (more…)

Seven: The Days Long Gone is a terrible name and a fascinating game. It s a stealthy RPG from former Witcher 3 devs that calls to mind everything from Thief to Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun. It s due out next week, but in the meantime I’ve been playing a little. Carry on for some thoughts and a new trailer with some stealth lessons to learn.

seven-the-days-long-gone

We may not have a clear idea of what the future holds for the Witcher series, but here’s something to tide you over: an isometric, open world, stealth-centric RPG from sometime Witcher 3 senior quest designer Jakub Rokosz and his new team, Fool’s Theory. We’ve known about Seven: The Days Long Gone for quite a while now, but all of a sudden it’s due for release in December.
