Assemble your squad and ready your toasters!

If you'd like to join us for the launch, we are streaming live from 17:00 GMT for one hour or so. We'll play back the recording afterwards so you can still get a glimpse of our excited, tired, but also joyful faces if you can't make the live stream.

Here we are, at the point of no return. Only ONE DAY until Robo Revenge Squad hits Steam, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch like a metal tornado.

If you’re one of the people who bought the Early Access version and waited patiently for the full release, first of all – THANK YOU! You are the best and all of us here at Rikodu are deeply grateful to you for sticking around. It’s been a much longer journey than we expected but it’s a great feeling to finally reach this point.

Now, let’s get down and dirty. If you played the Early Access version, here’s a rundown of the features and improvements you’ll find in the full version:

  • A new “Workshop” for unlocking and upgrading parts. This is the biggest feature change and allows you to decide how you’d like to specialize your bot rather than just unlocking parts in the same order as you level up. Want more healing? Go for the Defibrillator and the Glue Gun. Want more crowd control? Invest points towards the almighty Toilet Head. It’s your choice!

  • Part Upgrades – In addition to unlocking parts, you can upgrade parts in the Workshop. Keeping with the design philosophy of RRS, upgrades are often more than a simple stat boost and can unlock additional abilities, like a Tennis Ball Launcher that shoots two balls instead of one.
  • More parts and skins – 23 unique parts to unlock for your robot and 80+ part skins!
  • Even more hideout customization – now 60+ hideout skins

  • Steam Cloud Saves
  • Steam Achievements
  • Updated endings for most levels
  • Improved graphics and VFX – we revamped nearly all graphical assets for this release, including models, textures, and effects. The look we have now is much closer to what we had in mind when we set off to create RRS.
  • Many more audio effects – audio also had a full revamp, with many new and improved effects that complement the visuals for complete gear-crunching immersion.
  • Lots of combat balancing and other small tweaks
We’re super-excited to see what all of you – whether new to Robo Revenge Squad or old-time players –think of version 1.0. In two more days you can finally jump in and smash some evil aliens.

Greetings, our robotic friends. We have amazing news!

You read it in the title already, but let's say it again for emphasis - Robo Revenge Squad is coming out of Early Access and launching in full, polished form on August 17th! That's 2022 if you were wondering. :)

If you played the Early Access version, expect deeper weapon customization, more parts and even meaner enemies to smash. We'll share more information about the new stuff in the upcoming weeks but for now, know that the date is finally set in stone and you'll be able to play the most polished, customizable and lovingly crafted version of Robo Revenge Squad (formerly Frankie's Revenge) ever.

Here's a fancy trailer to show it off:

More updates coming between now and then. Stay tuned!

Ah, summer! That time of the year when you just want to pull your hiking boots on, get out of the house and DESTROY ALL YOUR ENEMIES!

If you totally get that feeling, we've got some great news. Frankie's Revenge is now at the lowest price it's ever been and will be for a good time to come. At 25% off, now is the best time to get it if you've been on the fence.

After the Summer Sale and in preparation for the full release, we'll be raising the price to $19.99. We strongly believe this reflects all the work and effort that went into the game and more importantly the extra quality that we think you'll appreciate once that 1.0 build drops.

To thank those of you who have been following and supporting us in Early Access, this is a special chance to get the game at a really low price and receive the full version Soon (TM).

So what's coming in 1.0?

Since we've been quiet for a while, let me list some of the things we've been up to. To be clear, these aren't in the Early Access build, but they will drop in 1.0, coming Soon (TM) to Steam:
  • Optimization, optimization and MORE optimization! Frankie is now butter smooth at high frame rates even if you're running it on a potato.
  • More video quality settings, including an Ultra setting with so many postprocessing effects that you won't even see the bots anymore
  • New workshop, including upgrades and some new parts
  • Improved enemies (behavior and models)
  • I can neither confirm nor deny that we have been working on console ports and may or may not release a console version at the same time as the Steam release

Those are some of the bigger ones, but there are lots of smaller things that we fixed and polished to create the best robot-smashing experience you can get.

When is 1.0 coming out?

Huh, it must have slipped my mind. Oh yeah, it's coming Soon (TM). No, really, we may or may not have been delaying for an unconfirmed console port but it's nearly there and coming... well, you know. We do appreciate all your patience and once again thank all of you who supported us in Early Access.

We'll see you on the other side Soon!

Greetings all junkyard warriors! It's time for an update on the development and release plans for Frankie's Revenge.

The last time we talked about future plans, we told you that we were at a crossroads in deciding what features to focus on for the full release. We also set an update schedule for ourselves that we couldn't quite keep up with. So, let's talk about both of these and lay out a path for what to expect.

Where are my updates?
Since launching in Early Access, we released 5 updates, including one major content update, and launched the Supporter Pack and Invaders Edition. We set out to release monthly feature updates but as it turns out this just wasn't feasible for our very small team.

Small as it may be, Team Rikodu has been 100% focused on improving and adding to Frankie's Revenge. As we did so, we asked ourselves: should we release regular feature updates or put all our energy into getting ready for the full release? We agonized over this decision but in the end decided that we can make a better game if we focus on the full release, saving only critical fixes for the remainder of Early Access.

While this decision means that you have to wait longer for new features and content, we are convinced that it's going to be worth it. The full release is not very far and you'll see a lot of improvements when it comes out. So stay tuned, as we reveal what we've been working on in the following weeks!

New Features
On the second decision point (what features should we add to the full release?) we had settled on three possible choices:
  1. Additional game mode
  2. More customization depth
  3. Challenges and extra difficulty
After much deliberation, the team settled on the second option. We felt that the current progression system, where players automatically get parts as they level up, just wasn't engaging enough. We also wanted to push the part customization further, to give the players more choice in building their unique robots.

The new Workshop deserves a full post so we'll reveal it in a future update, along with more details about how it works. For now, I can just say that it's pretty much done and undergoing balancing.

In addition to the Workshop, we've added one of the most requested quality-of-life features, Steam Cloud Save support! We're also adding other Steam features that will be included in the full launch.

Finally, we have of course added more robot parts, creating even more possible robot creations and team compositions.

Support and Discord!
On a final note, our Discord server (https://discord.gg/5cfetHm) has been less active lately as we stopped posting content updates, but rest assured that we're there and we're reading everything.

If you are in on the Early Access, first of all THANK YOU for taking part and second of all, please share your thoughts or any problems you encounter on Discord.

Cheers!

It’s time for our favorite conference! We’re back at Gamescom this year, showcasing the latest version of Frankie’s Revenge.

If you’re in Cologne do drop by Hall 10.1, booth B-049 to meet the devs, pick up some cool swag and sign up for a chance to get the game for free. We’ll randomly draw five lucky winners who will receive two copies of the “Invaders Edition”, the version of the game that’s packed with exclusive alien-infused skins.

We’re also running a special 15% off promotion during Gamescom, so even if you don’t attend the conference, now is the best time to get in on the action. This offer starts Wednesday, Aug 21st and lasts until Sunday, Aug 25th.

Most importantly though, if you’re at Gamescom we would really love to meet and hear from you. We appreciate all the feedback and support we received since releasing in Early Access and are always eager to hear what you like and what you’d like to see improved.

Hope to see you there!

Are you prepared? No, you are not prepared. The first major update is here!

Le Kraque
At the end of the second campaign and if you've gathered enough stars you will find an entirely new boss battle, even harder than Juicy Joe.

You'll need to be quick on your... err... lawnmower to defeat this monster and claim the title of Kraqueslayer. Gather your friends, oil up your Frankie parts and slay enough alien-infested robots to unlock Le Kraque's watery lair.

Be sure to post a screenshot if you're able to defeat this monster!

Official Localization Support

We've been working on localization for a while now and have gradually included more and more translated text as a soft launch. With this update, we finally have everything localized and officially support the following languages:
  • English
  • German
  • French
  • Italian
  • Spanish
  • Brazilian-Portuguese
  • Russian
  • Chinese
If your Steam client is set to one of the supported languages, Frankie's Revenge will start in that language. You can also explicitly change it from the Setttings menu (requires a game restart).

Better Level Endings
When we released in Early Access, some level endings were a little bit rough. We always planned to polish those up and make them a little more engaging. In the last minor update and in this one we've applied another layer of paint to the endings of Deadly Tides, Rising Waters, Smuggler's Cove and Nordic Crash.

We're working on other level endings as well and will be releasing them in future updates.

The Supporter Pack DLC

We're also thrilled to release the Supporter Pack DLC. It's a $9.99 add-on, filled with exclusive part and hideout skins, as well as novel personality items. The goodies are nice of course, but the pack is really intended for those of you who want to support us and help Frankie's Revenge become as big and bold as it can be!

And now for the good news: if you took part in our Beta test, you will receive the Supporter Pack FOR FREE as a thank you for helping us test the game before release. You'll receive an email with your Supporter Pack keys shortly.

Check out the Supporter Pack Page for more details.

Feedback Welcome
That's it for this update. As always, thanks so much for playing and let us know what you'd like to see in the next major update as we continue to develop and grow Frankie's Revenge.

Fearless fridges and boastful boilers, assemble!

It's time to talk about future plans for Frankie's Revenge as we continue growing the game in Early Access. Remember to jump on our Discord at https://discord.gg/5cfetHm, where we talk about these things regularly.

Update Schedule
Since launching on May 31st we released 3 patches, which were all about squashing bugs and small quality of life improvements like SFX volume tuning and highlighting newly unlocked parts & skins.

Most of our energy went into these bugfixes, especially the online connectivity issues that some of you have experienced. With the latest patch — delivered today — we believe that we've fixed the last problems related to creating and joining online games.

Thank you for your patience and for taking the time to report the problems to us. You're the best!

For the near future we intend to stay on the following update schedule:
  • a minor update every week, consisting primarily of bugfixes and small QoL changes
  • a major update every month, adding more content and features
We plan to follow this schedule for 3 months and then revisit it, to see if it still makes sense.

Le Kraque and Friends!
We're not entirely sure if he has any friends, but Le Kraque is definitely coming your way in the first major update, landing on the first week of July! If you thought Juicy Joe was hard, wait 'till you see the second boss battle. In the same update, we will also be adding official support for 7 different languages, more community balloons and — if we can squeeze them in — audio emotes!

Alongside this update we will also release a Supporter Pack, an exclusive cosmetic skin DLC that all our Beta testers can claim for free and will be available for purchase for everyone else.

Future Development Plans
After the July update, we will steadily add more Frankie parts. The core of Frankie's Revenge is experimenting with all of these components, so it's important that you have enough options to play around with. The Early Access launched with what we consider a minimal set of parts, and we will add as many of them as we can while we build up to the full release.

We're also exploring three major branches of expansion. None of the features discussed below are guaranteed to be in the final game but it should give you an idea of where we're heading.

1. Additional Game Modes
We've heard the calls for an "Endless Mode" from many of you and that's something we dicussed internally for a while now, alongside other mode ideas.

If this is something we'll decide to do, we will want to make sure we do it right. It should be fun first and foremost but it should also add something to the game like letting you compare to other players across the world or giving you a chance to win some exclusive rewards.

2. More Customization Depth
It would take too long to expand on this topic here, but the summary is that we're looking at ways to give you more control over which parts you unlock and more customization options.

Some ideas we're considering include replacing the level up & XP system with a crafting system, adding "mods" that improve or change the way parts function, or adding more customization slots.

3. Challenges & Extra Difficulty
The "Revenge Board" is a feature that we've already experimented with. It works like a career page that lays out all sorts of challenges (some with exclusive rewards) and shows all your progress, highlighting how badass you are. It would of course pair nicely with Steam Achievements but it would be much more than that.

Tightly related to this idea, is the option to have more difficulty levels. We're thinking about ways to add more difficulty levels without resorting to more number-bumping (increased enemy damage or health).

Is This Announcement Over Already? (TLDR)
In summary, we're commited to actively supporting and expanding Frankie's Revenge. Join our Discord at https://discord.gg/5cfetHm to tell us what else you'd like to see and share your thoughts about these plans.

Cheers!

With a slight change of tune, here are the latest patch notes, posted a mere 30 minutes or so after 0.2.1156 went live. Read on!

Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed a problem that sometimes caused connection attempts to fail when joining a friend or clicking an invite received from a friend
  • Fixed several interaction issues in Find Games screen, like the "Join" button occasionally disappearing, especially when using a controller
  • Fixed several cases when changing regions in Find Games made it impossible to join a game or create an online game
  • Issues in "Crowholm": fixed a bug that sometimes silently crashed the level when playing the fishing minigame, making it impossible to progress
  • Issues in "High in the Dark": enemies no longer get stuck in C4 dispensers
  • Issues in "Hard Cogs": it's no longer possible to dash through the security laser at the end and survive
  • Issues in "Smuggler's Cove": players are no longer reduced to a set of legs when moving around the boat at the end of the mission in online games
Improvements:
  • Replaced placeholder model of boat in "Smuggler's Cove" with real model
  • Replaced placeholder model of spaceship in "Nordic Crash" with real model and completely revamped the visual effects for the crash sequence
Notes on Connecting to Online Games and Lag
  • All problems that prevented players from joining / creating online games that we're aware of have been fixed. Please bear in mind however, that it can take a short while for games to appear in the Find Games screen. Even once you're connected to the server browser, it can take up to 15-20 seconds until games become visible.

  • Frankie's Revenge uses a peer-to-peer network model, meaning that there's no dedicated game server. Network performance is highly dependent on the host player's Internet connection so if the host has a poor connection, the game will run poorly for everyone.

  • Chinese players are likely to experience high lag. We use matchmaking servers to connect players to each other but due to legal restrictions, we don't have any such servers in the Chinese mainland. Consequently, Chinese players connecting to our servers outside the firewall are likely to see high lag. We apologize for this inconvenience and are looking for ways to resolve it but as it stands we don't have any working solution.
That's it for this update! Thanks for reading and don't forget to join our Discord server at https://discord.gg/5cfetHm where you can hang out with the community and the devs.
