STAR WARS Jedi: Fallen Order™

Respawn sure seems to be busy right now - not only is it beavering away on Apex Legends (and reportedly a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order), but we've also heard news about a new IP - and it seems this one is going to be a single-player game.

A number of new job listings have been posted on Respawn's website, with creative director Mohammad Alavi describing the project as a "brand new Respawn single-player adventure". Details on the game remain light, but the postings do note that the project is "in its early stages", while the single-player title is apparently "a designer's dream playground with a freedom to innovate made possible by the unique universe it inhabits."

According to a tweet in April by Respawn developer Steven Kah Hien Wong, the team is building a new IP "from scratch". So before you start asking about Titanfall 3 again, it seems like this is something brand new.

EA has set expectations by stating it will not reveal any new Star Wars games at next week's EA Play Live.

Instead, EA said in a tweet last night, "all of us look forward to celebrating with you next year when we share our vision for the Galaxy far, far away!"

Huh. Never mind EA Play Live - that sounds like we won't see any new Star Wars games until 2022.

EA is making the free digital upgrade for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order available to disc owners who now have a discless next-gen console.

If you have a physical copy of Respawn's action game on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One and have a discless PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series S, you can still get the upgrade free if you contact EA support and provide proof of purchase, EA said in an FAQ.

Here are the steps:

A few weeks ago we heard that after a long, long period of Star Wars games being made exclusively by EA, Ubisoft studio Massive Entertainment is working on an open-world Star Wars title, signalling that EA's 10-year exclusivity deal with Disney will not be extended. Despite this, it seems EA still has a number of Star Wars projects in the pipeline - and has no intention of slowing down.

In an earnings call last night, CEO Andrew Wilson said EA's Star Wars titles had made "over $3bn (£2.2bn) in net bookings" and had sold a total of 52m copies. Mobile game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes is a franchise worth $1bn (£733m) alone, and Wilson highlighted that EA had created a portfolio of other successful Star Wars titles including "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic [sic]... Battlefront, Jedi: Fallen Order and most recently, Squadrons.

"As we've established the very strong part of that franchise, you should expect that we will continue to invest in those as well as some new experiences across platforms for the future," Wilson said. "...I don't think you should imagine that the fact that some other people will build some Star Wars games is going to change our commitment to that IP or our ability to build the appropriate number of games."

The EA Star Wars Triple Bundle is here, and it's down from £90 to just £36 if you're buying on the Microsoft Store. It comes with Star Wars: Squadrons, Jedi: Fallen Order and Battlefront 2, as well as special upgrades for the latter two.

The three games offer distinctly different takes on the Star Wars experience. Squadrons is all about space fighter combat, Fallen Order is about being a lone jedi roaming the galaxy, and Battlefront 2 is about being one soldier among many in vast battles. Something for every kind of Star Wars fan, at least until somebody makes a Cantina management sim with optional arm dispensary.

What with these games being linked to your Microsoft account, it means you'll be able to play them both on a PC or on your Xbox, assuming your account is linked to both. Not only that, but all these games will work fine on both the Xbox One and Series X/S! And if you're still interested in getting the latter, don't worry - we've got all the available stock and discounts on Xbox Series X/S right here!

STAR WARS Jedi: Fallen Order™

A long year ago in a galaxy that feels far far removed from 2020, Respawn's single-player title Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order launched, and yesterday the game celebrated its first anniversary. To mark the occasion (and as a late entry to the Blocktober initiative, which encourages designers to share their blockmesh layouts), several Fallen Order designers took to Twitter to share their early work. And yes, that includes a giant space Yoda placeholder.

What does an AT-AT climbing scene look like when it's a prototype? Pretty weird, that's what, as you can see in the clip below. There's also footage of one of Respawn's absolute favourite mechanics - wall running - which similarly gives you an idea of what Fallen Order looks like underneath all its intragalactic trappings.

Another Respawn designer, Nicholas G Cameron, shared further images of some Fallen Order vistas in block form, including the crystal challenge that probably stumped you on Ilum.

May the fourth is over for another year, but it didn't end without one final surprise last night, as Respawn released a free update for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order which adds a bunch of extra features for veteran players.

For those who want some extra challenge, the update adds a new game mode hub called meditation training, which can be accessed via the meditation points scattered throughout the game. Within this, players can undertake combat challenges which pit Cal against waves of enemies, using backdrops and aliens from the main narrative and different sets of unique challenges, with each of the 12 challenge levels coming with a three-star completion rating. Unlocking all of those will earn you some extra BD-1 skins, but be warned, as the challenges are intended for experienced players and will be hard to complete at the early stages of a playthrough.

The other mode provided by meditation training is called the battle grid, which is essentially a sandbox mode for players to build their own encounters. You can pick the location, size of the skirmish, tinker with various difficulty options and add enemies of your choice. You can even fight against unique enemies seen in Cal's dark visions. I just wonder if you can create a battle with three Oggdo Bogdos.

Hang out here long enough and you've probably noticed that the Eurogamer lot are partial to a good pun under their headlines. I'm assuming, then, there's some appreciation for the play on words that is hosting Star Wars Day on May the 4th.

Star Wars and video games share a rich history, so it's no surprise to see various retailers attempt to capitalise on the festivities with their own Star Wars day deals. You can find offers on the old (Knights of the Old Republic, Jedi Knight) and the new (Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Battlefront 2), plus much more in between.

I've gathered the best of the bunch below for you to peruse. You can also head to Jelly Deals where we've got a roundup of all the other Star Wars day deals, featuring Lego, box sets, collectables, merch and more.

If you lacked the forcesight to pre-order Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and missed out on an orange lightsaber, fear not, as the latest patch has unlocked pre-order content for all players. Although, if you got the PC version you could already just mod it to any colour you like, I suppose.

A number of snazzy items are now up for grabs: including the orange lightsaber, the Mygeeto Campaign and Umbaran Campaign lightsaber hilts, the Bee-D-1 skin and a gold squadron skin for the Stinger Mantis.

Another change of note is you can no longer exploit the game's photo mode to destroy rockets. Yes, this was a thing: and apparently the photo mode could also interact with "trigger volumes within the levels that could potentially break the game". And I thought Thanos was the only person who could destroy the universe with a snap.

STAR WARS™ Knights of the Old Republic™

One of the best Star Wars video game characters ever is now canon - again.

The Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary book references Revan from BioWare's wonderful 2003 Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game, making the popular playable protagonist canon again after Lucasfilm wiped the extended universe slate clean back in 2014.

The book has a page on the Sith Troopers, which are organised into legions each named after "an ancient Sith lord". The third notable Sith Trooper legion is called Revan Legion, which makes Revan from KOTOR canon.
