SONG OF HORROR COMPLETE EDITION - Jorge Fernández
Hello Horror fans,

We are adding 4 new languages to Song of Horror. Now, you can face The Presence and play the true horror in Korean, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, or Simplified Chinese!

The new update opens the chance for more players over the globe to discover the hidden secrets of Song of Horror. We recognized there was a big group of Japanese, Korean and Chinese players supporting us, so we decided to work on integrating these languages into the game interface and subtitles, as part of our efforts to make it accessible to as many players as possible.

We hope that this new addition helps you investigate the scariest places and solve the most challenging puzzles. We also encourage you to keep sharing your best moments through the Steam forums... unless The Presence hunts you first.

Let the Horror begin,

The Protocol Games & Raiser Games Teams.

Dear horror fans,

To improve your gaming experience while discovering the hidden secrets of this survival horror adventure, we are removing Asus Aura support from Song of Horror since its integration was causing some issues that could prevent players from enjoying the game to the fullest.

However, as we are aware that some of you may want to still experience this feature on your computers, we will enable a dedicated branch with the Asus Aura version for you. You just need to follow the steps below to access this branch:
  1. Go to your Steam Library
  2. Right Click on Song of Horror
  3. Select Properties
  4. Select Betas
  5. From the dropdown menu, select: "soh-v1.24_aura_enabled"
  6. As this is an open Beta there should not be any password prompt
Please note that when playing this branch with the Asus Aura activated (soh-v1.24_aura_enabled branch), you may encounter some bugs that even The Presence can't control, so we will no longer be providing support for these issues, and this branch. These are the bugs that you may encounter in the Asus Aura version:
  • Fatal Error: some computers may receive a fatal error when launching the game, whether Aura is installed or not.
  • Unable to advance to EP2: If you have EP2 purchased or Song of Horror Complete, you may not be able to advance to EP2, and the game will ask you to purchase this episode.
We strongly recommend you to play Song of Horror on the default branch to enjoy the best of experiences while playing the game.

Dear horror fans,

We are teaming up with ASUS ROG to feature ASUS Aura Ready in Song of Horror!

This is the mutual fruit of both teams' efforts to bring you a brand-new way of playing Song of Horror. ASUS Aura Ready allows compatible devices to activate synced-up lighting effects during several moments in Song of Horror, like unexpected scares or Presence manifestations, to create a truly immersive experience!

What does the 1.24 update exactly introduce to Song of Horror?
  • Compatibility with ASUS ROG Aura Sync. If you own one or several of these products, you can install Armoury Crate to enable in-game effects. Check out this page to install Armoury Crate and enjoy Song of Horror like never before!
  • We are deactivating a unique event that takes place in Erica's apartment which triggered a gameplay block. This is a temporary measure, and we will reintroduce the event once we fix it.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented unlocking the Alone in the Dark achievement.

Song of Horror Aura Ready Showcase Coming Soon!

We are preparing a Song of Horror aura ready video to showcase the in-game lighting effects! Stay tuned as we unveil and celebrate this new feature.

Stay safe... from The Presence.

Dear Song of Horror fans,

Fear is the rawest of feelings, wouldn't you agree? It's exciting, violent, intense... A mesmerizing emotion. You want to avoid it but, at the same time, you can't help but crave it, wanting to experience its sudden override of your senses over, and over again. Now, we are ready to unveil why.

We will discuss the state of horror in 2020, how we crafted the unnerving atmosphere of Song of Horror, the methods that we use to create fear, and much more!

We are going live this Sunday, September 20th at 2:05 pm CET/8:05 am ET. Do not miss this special opportunity to understand true horror and go watch the stream right here!

Dear Song of Horror fans,

We present to you the Official Song of Horror References & Easter Eggs Guide! You can find it in the Guide section of the Steam forums, right here.

In this guide, you will find all the secrets we have hidden referencing other horror videogames, movies, tv shows, books... You probably missed many of them because you were too busy dealing with The Presence, maybe because there are some characters you didn't play with... Or just maybe because you didn't explore enough. That's why we are creating this guide to reveal all of them! There are more than 50 Easter eggs in Song of Horror, are you able to recognize them all?

We encourage you to review Song of Horror on Steam! All our updates and changes to the game like the new game mode without Permadeath or H.P. Lovecraft difficulty are motivated by your reviews, because your opinion matters to us!

We hope you enjoy these references as much as we do. We had a lot of fun integrating them within Song of Horror, which itself takes inspiration from games like Alone in the Dark and Silent Hill, or Lovecraftian literature.

Dear Song of Horror fans,

Now that Episode 5 and thus Song of Horror is complete, we can finish our series of steam events detailing all the references and easter eggs we have placed in Song of Horror! You can start right here if you missed them.

Now, let's reveal the final secrets Song of Horror has in store for you!

EPISODE 5

• Dr. Berenice Prestegard, Ariadne's doctor, is named after the short horror story from Edgar Allan Poe.

• Jeremy Hartwood Mental Hospital, the place where Ariadne spent her childhood, shares its name with the owner of Derceto Manor in the original Alone in the Dark, whose suicide kick-starts the events of the game.

• Alan Cedrac is a staff member of Jeremy Hartwood whose name comes from Aline Cedrac, the co-protagonist of Alone in the Dark: A New Nightmare.

• Edward Camby, the other co-protagonist of Alone in the Dark: A New Nightmare, also served as inspiration for another character from Song of Horror: Edward Saunders, the director of Jeremy Hartwood. His surnames come from Grace Saunders, a child that acts as a supporting character in Alone in the Dark 2.

• In a document found inside Jeremy Hartwood, you can discover that the company that dismantled the hospital was Derceto (like the previously mentioned manor from Alone in the Dark) and a reference to Ezechiel Pregzt, the antagonist of the same game.

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • The Masque of the Red Death (end of The First Dream): Shares name with the homonymous story of Edgar Allan Poe.

  • The Oval Portrait (Find all Ariadne's drawings): Another short story by Edgar Allan Poe.

  • Morella (end of The Second Dream): You guessed it, a third horror tale by Poe himself.

  • The Pit and the Pendulum: We recommend you check Edgar Allan Poe's work.

  • There and Back Again: The alternative title of "The Hobbit" from J.R.R. Tolkien.

  • Alone in the Dark (complete Song of Horror with Daniel in Poe difficulty or superior): No explanation needed.

  • The Presence Waits Dreaming (beat the game on Lovecraft difficulty): A phrase from the short story "The Call of Cthulhu" by H.P. Lovecraft - "in his house at R'lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming".

  • The Shadow Out of Time: Another reference to a short story by H.P. Lovecraft of the same name.

How many of these references did you recognize? How many did you already find in Song of Horror? Let us know in the comments!

We hope you enjoyed this series of updates unveiling all the secrets we placed in Song of Horror. We are huge fans of the genre (obviously) and we believe you are as well (duh!), so we think you will appreciate these details as much as us!

Thank you!

Help! Let me out!
SONG OF HORROR COMPLETE EDITION - Pablo Seara
Dear Song of Horror fans,

We are sharing with you a brief changelog detailing today's hotfix:

Hotfix 1.23

Fixed a graphical bug on the ending cutscene with Erica.

Known bugs

We're tracking the following errors and they'll be fixed as soon as possible:
  • The "Voices" omen can trigger a freeze in ultra graphic settings. To prevent it, we recommend reducing the "render quality" option in your settings to 93%.
  • If you interact with the mirror at the end of Episode 4, Husher's reflection might disappear.
  • If you interact with the Tarot Card before it is completed, diverse visual bugs will take place. The only thing you have to do to fix it is exit and re-enter the game.

Thank you everyone and keep enjoying the game!

The Protocol & Raiser Games Teams.

Dear Song of Horror fans,

Today we introduce several, highly requested new features to Song of Horror! You can now experience the hardest difficulty, H.P. Lovecraft, play as fan-favorite Erica in Episode 5, and face new scares and manifestations of The Presence.

We promised to add these three new elements to Song of Horror to keep improving the game beyond launch and to offer all of you new content to look forward to. This would not be possible without your participation in the community, so thank you for being so vocal and encouraging in the Steam forums and in your reviews!

Now, go and play the newest content Song of Horror has to offer!

Here's everything Update 1.22 introduces to Song of Horror:

H.P. LOVECRAFT

H.P. Lovecraft difficulty is now available! H.P. Lovecraft is Song of Horror’s hardest difficulty level. You can unlock this new difficulty after beating the game for the first time in M.R. James or Edgar Allan Poe.
  • The unlocking of H.P. Lovecraft is not retroactive: it won't unlock automatically if you already completed the game on M.R. James or Edgar Allan Poe. However, what you can do is watch the final cutscene again to unlock H.P. Lovecraft.
  • H.P. Lovecraft is a global unlock. Once you obtain it, you’ll be able to select H.P. Lovecraft in any of your save slots.
  • In H.P. Lovecraft, death (or worse!) lurks around every corner. The difficulty of all five Hauntings has been noticeably increased, and they will appear slightly more frequently than in Edgar Allan Poe. Lesser events will also tend to be more... malignant than before.
  • Be on your guard! No tutorials will show up in H.P. Lovecraft (they are still accessible from the "Tutorials" section of the Pause menu), and you might find yourself facing dangers you didn’t expect.
  • For those achievement hunters among us, you can now unlock a brand new one for completing the entire game on H.P. Lovecraft difficulty: "The Presence waits dreaming".
  • You can also change difficulty at any time between H.P. Lovecraft and the other three difficulty levels with no restrictions. However, doing this will prevent you from getting the achievement associated with H.P. Lovecraft, so think carefully before committing.
EPISODE 5: NEW PLAYABLE CHARACTER AND EVENTS

Erica Färber is now playable in Episode 5! After going through unspeakable horrors at the Abbey of Saint Cecilia and the antique store, a final answer still eludes Erica, and as you know, she’s not one to sit idly by...
  • To unlock Erica as a playable character in Episode 5, she needs to be present in Episode 4 and survive the ordeal (she doesn't need to be the one who finishes the episode). This is not retroactive: it will unlock on successful Episode 4 runs from now on.
  • We also added several instances of random paranormal activity to Jeremy Hartwood Mental Hospital. Now, your adventure through this cursed place will be scarier than ever before!

THE ABYSS
  • Fixed a rare bug where dodging an arm grab in the last second could result in your character still being grabbed and the associated icon not being properly shown.
GENERAL
  • Fixed several translations and minor bugs.
  • Fixed a bug where a certain combination of button/key presses could send you flying towards the last door you interacted with (The Presence can be really silly if it wants too).
  • Fixed several minor sound issues.

Once again, we want to thank you all for supporting Song of Horror and being a part of this community. That's why we want to highlight some of our favorite comments from the last few weeks. Enjoy!
