Known Issues
  • Some users might experience limited shadow draw distances and darkened distance landscapes when SSAO is enabled (only happens on some GPUs)
  • SVOGI might cause moving objects to leave streaks of temporal noise behind them (especially exposed in dark areas where a lot of bounced light is present). Higher FPS (or changing the Time of Day) reduces this issue.
  • The Snowmobile might not align with the snow properly, at first spawn. Pressing “r” and then “Enter” will solve the issue.
  • Some particle effects might not receive light values correctly. They may appear too bright or too dark in some settings.

New update hitting the slopes! This update contains critical fixes for two startup crashes and a new feature that veterans will be very happy about:

Features
  • We introduced a new main menu tile called "Fetch Data". As many of the veteran player noticed, their progress and items weren't displayed temporary. We implemented a new feature to fetch the latest data from the backend and save it locally on the computer. Keep in mind, that this will only fetch the latest player snapshot from the backend and merge it into your account. Progression is stored locally on your PC. We are working towards a Steam Cloud integration.

Crash fixes
  • Fixed crash on startup throwing the error: "Plugin load failed - initialization failure, check log for possible errors."
  • Fixed crash on startup throwing the error: “Couldn't allocate texture.”

Gameplay
  • Grinding sideways won't slow you down anymore.

More effects coming soon when performing tricks and slick moves in-game.

Known issues

Customization
- Helmet, glasses, snowmobile and ski / snowboard slots in the customization menu are
occasionally not being rendered correctly.
- Drone and Session Marker customization items are only being drawn when rotational
motion (right click) is being applied to them.
- Unequipping items in customization menu do not give correct player feedback due to the
blue marker remaining on the previously selected item.

Progression
- Owned steam inventory items are currently not synchronized with the game inventory.
- Previous backend data is currently not synchronized with the user offline data.
- Unused reward items are being awarded to the player in certain events/triggers.

Gameplay
- Movement speed of snowmobile is subject to change (we will monitor community feedback and adjust it as needed/desired)
- Players/Snowmobiles feet can appear slightly below the ground when switching loadouts
until first jump (shouldn’t affect gameplay)
- Grinding sideways on objects slows down the player.
- Shadows can appear too dark in specific lighting and time of day conditions.
- Experience bar animation can start from or move outside the bar in some situations - this
does not affect the actual computation behind rewards and level ups, it's only a minor visual issue
- Snow trails are being rendered correctly but look visually different than previously (harder
edges due to engine upgrade)

UI
- Very rare possibility of application crashing when switching from events to free roam menu.
- Loading hints can overlap in some situations showing two tips above each other.

SNOW - The Ultimate Edition - Asurao
Those of you who have been following SNOW's journey are well aware of the challenges we faced as a small indie team attempting to build something huge: an open world, free-to-play, physics driven "simulation" of skiing and snowboarding. We made a huge amount of progress towards that goal, achieving some pretty incredible things along the way. Sadly, despite continued progress, our funding sources began to dry up by early 2018, forcing us to stop development. When an acquisition offer from a larger developer fell through, we had to let go of the entire team and all but stop operations entirely. For the rest of the year I worked to find a new home for SNOW - someone or somewhere that appreciated what we created as much as we (the developers and the community) do.

Considering what a year it’s been for SNOW, I never imagined I would be writing a blog post with this title today!

So, time for the good news! I'm happy to announce that we have signed a publishing agreement with Crytek who committed resources towards further developing SNOW. Crytek and WastedStudios (the team of talented developers who now actually work on the game) have been busy since late 2018 preparing the 1.0 release of SNOW, which is live today! Crytek and WastedStudios have spent ample time making sure the game is as stable as possible and have also had the chance to add new features and make much-needed improvements to the game's product offering.

The Ultimate Edition

SNOW is still free-to-play but will no longer require Ski Passes to ride mountains - Ski Passes have been completely removed from the game. Instead, you can purchase The Ultimate Edition – a one-time purchase that includes access to all mountains, tons of gear, events, and unlocks forever. All users who have spent more than $5 in the past will receive The Ultimate Edition. The Ultimate Edition is $19.99 but will be on launch discount for $12.99 for the next week – so now’s your chance to unlock the entire game at once!

The free version of SNOW will include Tyro Valley, 7 days all access to Sialia if you complete the tutorial, and the X Games 2016 mountain. Tryo has been updated to include the beginnings of a new park, Obrien Park, which we hope to expand in the future. This is a new park developed by our close friend Brendan Obrien, who also designed Infinity Park and several other features of our mountains.

If you have any issues with the DLC, please get in touch with us through Crytek's support page here or email us directly at bugs@poppermost.se.

Multiplayer

Multiplayer is back and more stable than ever. Once again, you can explore Sialia together with your friends on skis, snowboards, and snowmobiles.

Collectables

Each mountain now contains Collectables, which reward the player with a handful of XP upon collection. The Collectables are hidden around the maps, and sometimes require considerable skill to access, so keep your eyes peeled as you explore the terrain. There are 90 Collectables to find in total!

Mountain Completion

Together with Collectables, Sightseeing, Events, and Challenges, you can now see how much of a mountain you have "completed". The first person to 100% every mountain (with proof!) will receive something special!

X Games 2018

A year late, but at least it’s live! Ride the 2018 Winter X Games Slopestyle, Big Air, and Super Pipe courses, and achieve Gold Medals to unlock exclusive rewards.

New Events

We have added a several new events on Sialia, each with their own rewards. Check out Deathwish, Last Light, Bluebird Freestyle, Path of the Dragon, and more!

Well, that's all for now. I hope you are as excited as I am for this update. SNOW has been a bumpy journey, but thanks to the never-ending support of the community, we have been able to keep the game alive and kicking. If you love SNOW, please consider supporting the game and buying The Ultimate Edition right now. As usual, a full list of changes can be found here. If you'd like to come discuss the update, share your feedback, or simply hang out with the rest of the community (and us developers!) please join our Discord channel here.

See you on the mountain!
SNOW - The Ultimate Edition - Asurao
SNOW M10 (Game Update 0.10.0) is live, and just in time for the winter! We have worked day and night since the beginning of November to get this update out in time for the winter, and bring some great new features to the world of SNOW. For those interested in release notes, here they are.

Here are the big new features in SNOW 0.10.0...

Ski Pass & Weekly Mountain Rotation

The biggest change to SNOW in M10 is the way you will access mountains. As explained in our preview blog post, we have moved away from selling new mountains and instead added a Ski Pass system that lets you access mountains for a much cheaper price. Ski Passes work like this: each mountain requires a Ski Pass to access the mountain and all of its content (events, rewards, etc). Ski Passes come in 1 Day, 7 Day, and 28 Day options and can be purchased with Credits or earned as rewards through Swag Bags.

Don’t worry – Ski Passes are cheap! This is how much they cost:
  • 1 Day Ski Pass – 45 Credits
  • 7 Day Ski Pass – 95 Credits
  • 28 Day Ski Pass – 190 Credits
Also, if you complete the Tutorial, you will get a 3 Day Sialia Ski Pass for free, letting you access the entire mountain and all the events for that time period.

If you want access to all mountains for a much longer period of time, consider buying one of the DLC options that will soon be available (currently only for PC). The DLC contains All Access Ski Passes which grant access to all mountains for 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months, for a huge discount. There is also the option to buy the Lifetime Pass DLC which gives you access to all current and future mountains and feature unlocks forever.

Once you have purchased a Ski Pass you can activate it and start riding immediately. You’ll see the timer in the Mountain Info menu and be alerted when your Ski Pass is about to expire.

The only mountain that does not require a Ski Pass is Tyro Valley, which will always be free to play. There will also be a Weekly Mountain on rotation that does not require a ski pass to visit, but only lets you explore the mountain and not access the events and other mountain content.

If you already purchased a mountain (like Whiteridge or X Games), you will own that mountain still and never require a Ski Pass to play it. Also, as a thank you to our earliest supporters all Starter, Tester, and Founder Backers will receive a Lifetime All Access Pass, granting all current and future mountains and feature unlocks for free forever. Similarly, all PS4 players will receive a 6 month All Access Pass. If you think you should have access to a mountain that you don't currently have access to, please email us bugs@poppermost.se so we can help resolve the issue.

Here's what you'll get if you supported the game earlier:
  • Starter Pack - Lifetime Pass
  • Tester Pack - Lifetime Pass
  • Founder Pack - Lifetime Pass
  • Closed Beta - 3 Months Basic Pass
If you purchased the Early Access or played during the Closed Beta and did not receive your intended Ski Pass, please email us at bugs@poppermost.se

Leveling & Swag Bags

SNOW M10 sees a new levelling and reward system. Regular levels are now from 0-20, and new Pro Levels start from 20 and are unlimited. When you level up you will now receive a Swag Bag, which includes different rare items like Credits, clothing, equipment, and tools. There are 13 different Swag Bags that you can receive for regular levels, and 16 Swag Bags for Pro Levels. Swag Bags have different rarities, with the rarer Swag Bags containing more exclusive items.

Sightseeing & Drop Point Unlocking

Sightseeing locations are scattered across each mountain and are another activity to encourage exploration. Each mountain has at least 3 locations and can be activated by riding to the location and holding down the button press. Activating the Sightseeing will trigger a brief cut scene showing off the area and even possibly a secret that you might have missed. Right now there is no progression for Sightseeing, but in the next update there will be a menu where you can see all Sightseeing locations and see which ones you’re still missing.

Backcountry Drop Points now require riding to a specific location to unlock. Like with Sightseeing, you will ride up to the point and then hold down the specific button press to unlock the Drop Point. Doing so will trigger a cut scene showing off the area a bit. We hope this makes unlocking Backcountry Drop Points more deliberate and rewarding.

Stopping, Walking, & Riding Ski Lifts

You can now come to a complete stop and not have to continue holding down a button to stay stopped. While stopped you can slowly rotate if you need to line up a jump or navigate around an obstacle.

Tired of skiing and snowboarding? Using the quick select menu you can now take off your planks and board and walk around. Hopefully this gives you more freedom to get to know the mountain better. This is the first pass of the feature so there are some improvements necessary. Unfortunately walking is not currently available in multiplayer, but we hope to fix that in the near future.

https://gfycat.com/DampElasticArchaeocete

Ski Lifts can now be used to go back up the mountain. Simply ski up to a Ski Lift and hold down the corresponding button press to jump on! While on the Ski Lift you can look around, skip to the end of the ride, and even jump off at any time. Like with walking, Ski Lifts do not work in multiplayer, but we hope to have this working in future updates so you can ride the lifts with your friends!

Event Improvements

We’ve made some improvements to Events to make them more exciting and hopefully more enjoyable. Before the Event starts, you will now see a preview of the course. After that you will find yourself at a start gate, ready to push off. We’ve removed the timer countdown and instead now let you start when you want by pressing the push button. This should also eliminate any issues linked to pushing off in the correct direction. Once you’ve completed the Event, you will see a short cut scene of you and other competitors on the podium. We plan to continue to polish this entire sequence to make sure Events feel special.

Multiplayer Improvements

Ragdolls in multiplayer are back! Now you can finally watch your best friend tumble down a hill, fling themselves off a cliff, or bounce off trees. In addition to that, we’ve removed player collision so that player can no longer crash into each other. Finally, we’ve also added a Chat Log to multiplayer, so you can communicate more easily with other players on the server.

With the addition of Ski Passes, Tyro Valley will now be the default multiplayer mountain in SNOW M10. We plan to include the Weekly Rotation mountain in this in the future, but for now we hope you enjoy exploring Tyro with your friends online.

For those interested in a proper list of changes, here are the Release Notes. We're already working on a patch for a few known issues, so please be patient as we work through this. If you have any questions or need to talk to someone, please join our Discord server (www.discord.gg/SNOWthegame) or email us at bugs@poppermost.se
