I'm Jérémie, you know me as Early Melon, and I've been working on this title for 4 years now, Enrique aka @pentadrangle composed the OST.

Back in 2017, we went to BIC festival to show the game for the first time and it surprisingly won 2 awards in Busan, South Korea, excellence in multiplayer and the esport sponsorship prize.

Few months later, we organized a rewarded tournament at GStar with the sponsor, people loved it, it was a blast !


Exhilaration passed, I worked hard on the netcode, start beta testing, balancing, releasing the game on Early Access, adding content, polishing the UI and porting it to the Switch.
I realised how difficult it was to actually finish a game.

As you probably know, the game now has 13 unique characters, a solo mode (arcade) where you can unlock the boss character, local match including stock, team, score and practice mode.
It has online 1vs1 on Steam, and it's important to know that online will come later in a patch on Switch as I'm working on implementing Nintendo Nex Online Library.

It is more difficult than Steam, so bare with me, I will have to work a bit longer because development time is slow on console.

I want to thanks all of you a lot, for helping me finishing the game, thanks to all the people on Discord who helped others when I was not there. Managing the community became overwhelming and I got lost in tasks at some point.

Finally, it is out... the arcade mode.

I'm excited to see this out, there is a lot of new things.
The Arcade update adds an unlockable boss, by successfully winning the arcade mode on normal or hard difficulty without a loss.
This update also include achievements, new portraits made by @the_esparon, and gameplay balance.



New sprites for all yeah !

The update also include new tracks for the Pao's stage and Yamaha's stage still made by @pentadrangle



There are 14 achievements, one for each character to win the arcade mode, and one to unlock the boss.



Balance or gameplay notes :
- First thing you will notice is how fast the character goes when falling.
I increased a lot the limit of the falling speed because the game was too floaty. Now character will be back on ground faster.
- To even go further, I increased the power of the down button when falling.
The animation is now a dive and this can be used to avoid aerial attacks.
- New way of loading maps, using less texture memory,
- Fixed a couple of crashes, stability fixes
- Fixed some fullscreen resolutions issues.
- Added an option to show FPS
- Added Switch Joycon & pro controller auto-mapping
- Hide the mouse icon when not moving for 3 seconds.
- New typo for text here and there
- Fixed line glitches on many stages

Hello everyone !

Here comes another update/patch to fix recent issue and the game wll be 25% OFF for a week.
I'm working a lot on the arcade mode and I can't show that right now as it is still a work in progress.

Here is just a part of the boss's stage, I don't want to show too much.




But I do have a lot of other things that made the game more enjoyable available with this new update :

Update patch 8.8 notes :

- Fixed some crashes happening in the selection screen
- Disabled keyboard debuging keys (sorry about that one)
- Added resolutions to the fullscreen options, this can improve performance drastically for high resolution monitors.
- Changed the way clang/small clashes works, now the speed of the character influence who is gonna win a clang (finish his stun before the other), the more speed the better
- Added a timer online, it's set at 7 minutes.
- Made some attacks unparryable, powerfull attack and smash down are concerned
- Fixed Jin glitch on one attack
- Fixed the animation on slopes.
- Fixed the maximum number of players possible to 8, before it would just crash.
- Added more details and fixed camera on the stage MOONLIGHT TEMPLE

- Fixed the wrong knocback on neutral tile, and decreased knockback globally for tiles.
- Improved preventing attack cross up.
- Shield grab wont create parry anymore.
- if a grab on floor is failed, the player start a recovery slide animation and can't control the player right away.
- An attempt to grab from a shield disable the use of parry for 2 seconds. No more lucky parry.
- improved overall knockback to scale better.
- added online key F7 to decrease the frame delay by 1 and F8 to increase the frame delay by 1.
(depending of your connection stability, you can remove or add frame delay to improve the connection, if you face too much locked frame -> increase the delay, if the connectin is really good -> you can try decreasing the delay)

Update patch 8.7
- Fixed the framerate droping to 1fps
- Fixed the crashes during match
- Changed the way to add cpu, now you add them directly inside the selection menu by pressing space or select.
- You can now make a match with only cpus, if you like watching
- Improved performance globally
- Made the wavedash way more consistent
- New Grab for Jin and Long
- Changed some attacks, a lot of hitboxes and startup time or end lag for many attacks, you can see what's been done in this doc (text from me in green):

I'm still working on this so you guys can expect another update soon. This one is mostly to fix the framerate drops and other crashes.

Hello everyone !

Sorry for players who experienced crashes or other issues with the game.
This patch is here for you, I hope it fixes most of your problem.

As always, it is hard to know if it fixed everyone's issue simply because it works on my end.

But I checked with other players who had issues and it is good for them.

Here is a recap of what was done.

Update patch 8.6
- Improved loading time by a lot, divided launch time by 5
- Sounds are now streamed instead of cached, it means the memory usage is divided by ~3
- New soundtrack for The Jungle with its Showdown version
- Fixed the bug when after rematch, soft platforms are broken and act like walls on edges.
- Improved performance of the game
- Fixed each stage low walls blocking issue
- Lots of hitboxes balance patches
- New Needle down aerial when off stage
- Fixed couple of texture glitches
- Potentially fixed the xinput limitation to 4 controllers. Need someone to test it
- Fixed the defense roll direction after roll
- Fixed some movelist
- Fixed Hoon and Pakaw grab that used to activate even when failed
- Fixed tile knockback for straight throws
- Fixed some Punk hitboxes that went behind his body or sprites without hurtboxes
- Fixed Yamaha getting stuck after a ground tech counter
- Fixed bug with grab being canceled and opponent freezing/flying with no gravity
- Changed the camera behavior in fixed scale x2.

Hello again,

Thanks everyone for the long wait, it's been almost 2 months since the last big update. I've been busy as always and I'm really excited to show you what I've been working on.



Let's talk about the plan for Roof Rage in Early Access, where I want to go before the full release, what is in this update and what will be in the next.

So we started at 8 characters when the game initially launched in EA, now we are at 12, my plan is to get to 14 for the full release. I already have one more character in progress who will be part of the arcade mode that we will discuss later in this annoucement.

That's already a lot of work because I do this on my own, but as you can see we're getting there.

New UI


The plan for the full release is to have 14 characters/14 stages, a proper tutorial/training mode that explains all the techs while playing.
And an arcade mode where you have to battle each character to reach the boss and eventually unlock it if you don't loose a match.

I will think to add 2vs2 online if enough players join us.
At least you will have more options available for the 1vs1 online game mode.

Now let's get to this update, there is a lot here ! We have a Sumo character !



Here is the patch note :
Update patch 8.5
- New resolution full screen 16/9
- Made improvment with the camera at fixed scale
- New Dust effects for jump, wall jump, slides / dash, and smash down on ground
- New after image effect for some attacks for Punk, Nawi, Needle, Jin and Guan
- Couple of new SFX in game and in the menu
- Nawi new diag down aerial
- New system of Booster after performing a long combo, a booster with make you faster as long as you keep the combo going and has a blue after image effect
- New bouncing system for walls, the bounce impulse is now working as it should and create more possibilities of combos.
- Fixed a bug with the camera when waiting for a player online.
- Fixed a bug where you could tech in the air.
- Fixed the bug with soft plateform edges interfering with attacks or movements
- grab wont work vs attack, only vs shield and a non attacking opponent (I will make it that it can grab during a startup animation though)
- ground grab won't grab a character in air
- Globally fixed the knockback from a straight hit, it used to go Up too much now it's a more linear knockback
- Fixed broken combinations during a multi hits attack, for example Hoon Fair kicks
- New menu UI during the selection screen plus the move list
- New Sumo character Yamaha, expert clapping fighter, watch out for his towel clap
- New performance improvment, and fixed a couple reason of desync again.
- Needle faster recovery Uair startup, and faster normal uAir
- Pakaw longer knee kick, and few buffs
- Hoon faster fireball aerial startup, and better animation
- Improved colors in the menu
- Punk new special up on ground
- Improved the camera movement to have more stage influence, it means it will follow players a bit less to be able to see the stage when a player is high up.
- Nawi fixed some hitboxes to actually hit a small character with ground normals, and fixed some of her impulse for some attack.
- Fixed a Thyra hitbox bug on her Ftilt
- Added the missing dash down
- Fixed Leon dash which was too small
- Gave every dash a bit of extra length
- Fixed the perma link to Discord, added it to the steam page too.
- Fixed the soft platform bug where a smash down would activate and still go through
- Reduced all the diag down knockback by a lot, it makes recovery from it an option and avoid a lot of early kill.
- Removed the shield bubble and replaced it by a defensive stance, you can block as many attacks as you want but defensive stance only works when a player attacks on your defensive side. Defensive stance are grabbable
- A defensive stance won't block some heavy attacks, the one that used to break the shield.


As you can see, I didn't procrastinate... In fact, I will need a lot of feedback on this because some game mechanics changed drastically.

In today big announcement, we have a new character and a new stage plus tons of new things and fixes.

First let me introduce Nisassa :


Nisassa is a highly skilled assassin-for-hire, as well as the younger sister of Jin, she charges a hefty price for her service. She tends to rely on stealth and counter-attacks more than directly engaging an opponent.


And yes she has a bow and can teleport to her thrown arrow, the arrow carries the opponent for a bit when it hits. If her arrow takes a hit, Nisassa automatically teleports there and take the hit.


We also introduce a new system for online matchmaking, now you can create a lobby and continue to play the game locally while waiting.
You can view and join lobbies in the menu, you can join them randomly and we still have Steam invitation.

And a new soundtrack for "The Ring" that just made it into the update ːsteamhappyː

This patch includes those changes :

- LeaderBoard now have a universal font to include Asian characters
- New system for the shield (it's gonna be gone soon replaced by a defensive stance), right now the only difference is that you can buffer it. it deactivate and roll after 200ms if you have the side direction pushed.

- New system for projectiles to follow the character's movement better.
- Ambiance sounds are back
- Clashes deal more knockbacks plus a new system to avoid mutli collisions hitboxes

Balancing update :

- Guan laser nerf, longer startup
- Thyra, Guan ftilt longer end lag
- reworked hitboxes on Guan, Punk, Pakaw, Leon, Long, Hoon, Jin, Thyra

Here comes a new challenger !

This is the second big update to the game, we introduce Pakaw, our Muay Thai boxer.
With this update, the game will be 50% OFF FOR A WEEK !
Starting 10th August 10am pacific time.



He has a unique play style, heavy on the ground, fighting with a combination of hard punches and knee strikes.
His stage is a ring with bouncing ropes on both side, a new way to create combos.



The game now has 10 characters and 10 stages.



This update also include a beta ranked match & leaderboard. It means that any match online will be ranked for now, it is based on an ELO system, the higher in rank your opponent is the more score you get.
Every one starts at 1000 points.

What changed in the recent updates :

- New input for grab, shield + normal attack
- Rolling now change side by default, it means if you shield and roll + release the direction input, the characater would face his opposite side (if you avoid an opponent attack, you will most likely be facing him at this moment) if the shield is still pressed then you only need to input a normal attack to make a grab possible here.
- Some change in the menu to be able to have more options, see more controllers
- Fixed some online freezes that disconnected players.
- Needle new slide attack, with a up momentum making it easier to connect to the next move.
- Fixed grabs
- Changed some hitboxes/hurtboxes on few characters attacks.

Hello everyone

Here comes a new challenger !



I present you Nawi, the new character and her stage.
She has long legs, using capoeira techniques and has 2 grabs, one's midair.



We worked on this update for the last 2 weeks, we were able to fix a lot of issues online (desync) and also a lot of frame locked online.

I hope you guys can enjoy some game online now without facing too much issues or lag and start creating more tournaments.

Thanks to this, replays are also working better and are less likely to stop.

Other things in this update :
- Now players can't push each others anymore (part of the online fix)
- Each character's normal attacks have a faster startup, it makes the game feels more responsive.
- Grabs on ground are now performed with a double tap forward (yes only direction), to avoid confusion with other attacks like forward normal or forward smash attack.
- New attack on ground up special for Leon (wip)
- And many other bug fixes.

General
This version fixed most importantly the bug related to the showdown filter.
Now all the stages have a handmade showdown version.
There should be no more black screen or weird glitch here.



Balance update :
- Hoon got his diag down air buffed
- Thyra, Punk and Long got nerfed a little on the same Spike : Diag down air.
- Reduced the time of the average stun for every hit. Aerial from 50 to 40 frames. Ground from 40 to 35 frames.
- Reduced a bit the time of hit freeze, from 20 to 15 frames. The game should feel a bit faster.

Menu update :
- Change selection is now first in the podium menu
- Rematch is second.

Fix :
- Punk down Tilt leading to death if falling off stage.
- Thyra falling from dojo slopes after a rematch.
- Removed some options in the podium after a replay.
