Rivals of Aether

Whether your fighting flush or guarding your pennies, Humble's latest gathering of games has something to suit your budget. Well, that's assuming you like beat 'em ups.

If you don't, you're as screwed as me playing any beat 'em up in the history of beat 'em ups. But if you do, you might like to know the Humble Brawler Bundle's pay what you want tier features BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend, Skullgirls, and GUILTY GEAR XX ΛCORE CORE PLUS R—the latter of which means business because it's stylised in all-caps.

Step up to the bundle's 'pay more than average' weight division—$5.59 at the time of writing (£4.02 or thereabouts)—and face-off with Street Fighter X Tekken and Arcana Heart 3 LOVE MAX!!!!! That last one really means business. Caps lock and five exclamation marks? Listen mate, I don't want any trouble.

Graduate to the bundle's main card by paying $9 (around £6.47) to unlock all of the above, plus GUILTY GEAR Xrd -SIGN-, and Rivals of Aether. Launched last year, Rivals offers a pixelated riff on Super Smash Bros and looks lovely. Here's a trailer from last year:

As always, payment here is divvied up between Humble, the games' devs and a charity of your choice. Direct Relief and the American Cancer Society are this bundle's nominated organisations.

Ori and the Blind Forest

Hot on the heels of the E3 reveal of Ori and the Will of the Wisps, sequel to the fantastic 2015 platformer Ori and the Blind Forest, we are getting even more Ori! Indie Smash Bros-style fighting game Rivals of Aether has announced that Ori will be coming to the game as a new fighter.

Ori will come alongside a new "Spirit Tree" stage in a $5 DLC pack that will be purchasable later this summer. Developer Dan Fornace has worked with both Ori developer Moon Studios and publisher Microsoft to bring the character over, redesigning Ori in his pixel art style and recreating many of the abilities from The Blind Forest for Ori's moveset.

$5 for a single character and level seems steep to me when the base game is $15, but watching the trailer above it's hard to argue Ori doesn't look good. There's no date for the DLC yet, but "summer" would mean sometime in the next couple months. Four more previously planned DLC characters are also scheduled for release late this fall.

Rivals of Aether

Rivals of Aether hit Early Access in late 2015, offering a pixellated take on the classic (and modern) Super Smash Bros. formula. What's that formula, you ask? A bunch of cutesy characters beating the ever-loving crap out of each other, is what the formula is.

The game launched out of Early Access today, which means it's feature complete. If you've been playing during the Early Access period, the game's single-player components will be of most interest, since they're making their debut. For everyone else, the game boasts a 1v1 or 2v2 Versus mode, a Story mode, a wave-based Abyss mode and Online Versus. There's also a Tutorial and Practice Mode for newcomers.

Here's a trailer to get you in the mood. The game is $14.99 on Steam.
