As part of GE Transportation Systems’ Dash 8 Series, the popular Dash8-40C is one of the most popular locomotives in the series, and is now available for Train Simulator.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/277732

Built by General Electric between 1987 and 1992, more than 500 Dash8-40C locomotives entered service for a number of US railroad companies. The Series was the first to be fitted with a microprocessor equipped engine control system, which was later to be adopted on a number of diesel locomotives.

With an output of 4,000hp and a top speed of 68mph (109 km/h), the Dash 8 was considered a heavy duty freight locomotive and was fitted with standard GE equipment, including dynamic braking but without display screens, preferring to retain old style gauges and dials on a tall console in the driver’s cab.

Alongside CSX Transportation and Union Pacific, Norfolk Southern originally purchased 89 units and inherited more Dash 8s from Conrail when the two railroads merged. The Dash8-40C for Train Simulator recreates the original locomotive with narrow nose as it operates for Norfolk Southern.

Features of the model include flashing ditch lights, instrument and cab lighting, dynamic braking and Norfolk Southern coal gondolas.

The locomotive is also Quick Drive compatible, giving you the freedom to drive the Norfolk Southern Dash8-40C on any Quick Drive enabled route for Train Simulator, such as those available through Steam. Also included are scenarios specifically for the Norfolk Southern Coal District route (available separately and required to play these scenarios).

The mixed-traffic Class 35 diesel-hydraulic locomotive is now available for Train Simulator in BR green livery.

The hydraulic transmission fitted to the Class 35 locomotives gave them their affectionate nickname of ‘Hymeks’ and, at the time they were built, were the most powerful diesel-hydraulic locomotive operating with a single engine. They were popular sights at the head of semi-fast and freight trains across the Western Region of the British rail network during the 1960s.

A total of 101 models were produced by Beyer Peacock between 1961 and 1964, although their operational life was relatively short – withdrawals began in 1971 and were completed by 1975. A total of four locomotives have survived into preservation.

The Class 35 for Train Simulator is available in British Railways green livery and is a former Iron Horse House model, which has been updated to TS2014 standard, including new scenarios and improved exterior modelling. Also included are BR Mk1 passenger coaches in chocolate and cream livery.

The locomotive is also Quick Drive compatible, giving you the freedom to drive the BR Class 35 on any Quick Drive enabled route for Train Simulator, such as those available through Steam. Also included are scenarios specifically for The Riviera Line: Exeter-Paignton route (available separately and required to play these scenarios).

Joining two of the north of England’s major cities, the Liverpool to Manchester route for Train Simulator features stunning stations and well known landmarks throughout.

The original route between the cities ran between Liverpool Central (High Level) Station and Manchester Central, and was opened in 1873 by the Cheshire Lines Committee. Although both stations have since been demolished and replaced by Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly, it still remains an important route for passenger and freight traffic.

The 40 mile route sees up to four passenger trains per hour in each direction with freight still operating throughout the route. Various light industrial sidings are also a feature, including well known landmarks such as Manchester International Freight Terminal, the River Mersey, Manchester Ship Canal and Liverpool Edge Hill. A total of 24 stations can also be found on the route, including Manchester Oxford Street, Warrington Central, Liverpool South Parkway and Widnes.

Included with the route is a Regional Railways Class 158 diesel multiple unit (DMU), built for British Rail between 1989 and 1992. The DMU was built to replace many locomotive-hauled passenger trains and had a top speed of 90mph (145 km/h).
