The mid-sized Class 27 diesel locomotive is now here for Train Simulator in British Rail Green livery.

Built for British Rail between 1961 and 1962 by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company, the 69 models in the Class initially saw use around London and in Scotland. Later in their life, the majority of the Class were permanently located in Scotland to replace ageing DMUs and the older Class 17s.

With a top speed of 90mph (145 km/h), a number of Class 27s were converted to operated push-pull services between Edinburgh and Glasgow, although they were also used for freight services as well.

The intensive, high speed running of push-pull services saw reliability begin to suffer, and the Class began to be phased out of revenue generating services from 1980 onwards. The last example was withdrawn from service in 1987, although eight Class 27s have been preserved on various heritage railways in the UK.

The Class 27 for Train Simulator is available in British Railways green livery and is a former Iron Horse House model, which has been updated to TS2014 standard, including new scenarios and improved exterior modelling. Features include engine on/off buttons, AWS sunflower and reset, instrument and cab lighting, and BR Mk1 coaches in maroon livery.

The locomotive is also Quick Drive compatible, giving you the freedom to drive the BR Class 27 on any Quick Drive enabled route for Train Simulator, such as those available through Steam. Also included are scenarios specifically for the Western Lines of Scotland route (available separately and required to play these scenarios).

Arguably the most useful of first generation diesel multiple units (DMUs), the Class 121 ‘Bubble Car’ comes to Train Simulator in distinctive Network SouthEast livery.

The unusual single-car units were manufactured by Pressed Steel Company from 1960 onwards and introduced by British Rail for use mainly on the Western Region and around London on suburban and branch line duties. Their distinctive exhaust pipes designed to fit around a large four-digit headcode indicator box made these units fondly regarded by rail fans for their unpretentious appearance and old-fashioned interior and performance characteristics.

The ‘Bubble Cars’ became familiar for running Network SouthEast services and upon privatisation of British Rail, the fleet was operated by only one passenger company – Silverlink – with several more units in departmental duties with Railtrack. Today, two Class 121 models remain in revenue generating service with Chiltern Railways, representing the last chance to ride on 1960s slam-door stock on the main line in the UK and signifying a remarkably long life for these fans’ favourite. Five motor cars also remain in preservation across heritage railways in the UK.

The Class 121 for Train Simulator recreates the model as it operated for Network SouthEast between London and the western Home Counties in the 1980s. Features include the prominent exhaust pipes at the motor end, manual gear change and passenger view with a slightly weathered finish.

The locomotive is also Quick Drive compatible, giving you the freedom to drive the Network SouthEast Class 121 on any Quick Drive enabled route for Train Simulator, such as those available through Steam. Also included are scenarios specifically for the Great Western Main Line route (available separately and required to play these scenarios).

The heavy freight second generation Class 56 diesel locomotive comes to Train Simulator in BR Sectors livery.

Built for British Rail between 1976 and 1984, the first batch of 30 locomotives were built by Electroputere in Romania as a replacement to ageing fleets of first generation locomotives such as the Class 37 and Class 47. A further 105 locomotives were subsequently built by BREL at Doncaster and Crewe Works, bringing the total fleet of Class 56s to enter service to 135.

Its bodyshell design was based on the Class 47 and the Class were the first BR diesel type to be built with air train brakes only. Its 3,250 horsepower output enabled a top speed of 80mph (129 km/h), and the ‘Grids’ plied its trade across the British railway network at the head of heavy freight services.

Following privatisation of the rail network in 1996, many models passed to private owners. However, maintenance needs were high by modern standards, and notwithstanding significant investment by private operators, the class could not compete with more modern Class 66 in terms of availability or maintenance costs.

Most locomotives were withdrawn by EWS on 31 March 2004, although some were reinstated for use on construction trains connected with the LGV East in France; others were put into service for private operators such as Fastline and Colas Rail, and remain in service today.

The BR Sectors Class 56 for Train Simulator is a former Iron Horse House model, which has been updated to TS2014 standard, including new scenarios and improved exterior modelling. Features include cab and instrument lighting, two-tone horn, driver vigilance device, engine shut down/start up procedure and slow speed control.

The locomotive is also Quick Drive compatible, giving you the freedom to drive the BR Sectors Class 56 on any Quick Drive enabled route for Train Simulator, such as those available through Steam. Also included are scenarios specifically for the West Coast Main Line North route (available separately and required to play these scenarios).

One of Germany’s oldest railway lines comes to life in the beautiful and picturesque Munich – Garmisch-Partenkirchen route for Train Simulator.

http://youtu.be/HpdHvqxpNPs

Set in the southern part of the German state of Bavaria, the 100km (62 mile) route is mainly single track throughout and runs from the country’s expansive capital city to the mountainous resorts of Bavaria, on the border with Austria. The first section of the line from Munich to Pasing, and on to Planegg, was opened on 21 May 1854, and throughout the same year further work continued to extend the railway to Gauting, Mühlthal and Starnberg.

Over subsequent years, more sections of the route were independently built to service local industries in and around the towns of Weilheim, Tutzing, Murnau and Partenkirchen; these sections were upgraded and merged in the early 1900s, and on 20 February 1925, an electric hauled train completed the first full run from Munich Main Station to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Munich S-Bahn Line S6 services serve the route, running south from Munich to Tutzing, where they terminate. Additionally, Intercity-Express (ICE) trains can be seen on the line, running from Munich to Innsbruck.

The Regionalbahn BR 426 is a popular train-set on the S6 Line, a train-set that is included with this route. Built by a consortium of Siemens, Bombardier and DWA, the BR 426 is almost identical to the BR 425, bar the BR 426 being a two-car unit rather than a four-car unit. The high powered, lightweight vehicles were designed for short to medium distance services, making them ideal units for the S6 Line. Features of the model include SIFA, PZB and LZB in-cab signalling and driver safety devices, in-cab indicators, cab controls and cab lighting.

The Munich – Garmisch-Partenkirchen route is highly detailed and feature-rich, and incorporates night lighting, therefore will benefit from a higher PC specification than other Train Simulator add-ons.
