RPG World - Action RPG Maker - Massbot

Custom games update - Build your character!
Full patch notes >>here<<
The first stage in creating unique games following the story of your own characters has been completed, you can now build your player inside Character Creator and then set them to be used in your game!

You can also choose which class they will be. People playing your game will be the character you chose, level 1 and have an empty inventory. Items collected will be kept only within your game and are saved when they exit. Weapons collected and used look like they normally do, however, your character will keep their look no matter what armour is worn. You only need to set the character to be used in the first world of your game, not any worlds that are connected, your character remains the one being used until the player returns to the Hub World.

To change the character and access future custom game settings press the following button in the editor. Here you'll be able to set the class and choose from saved character creator creations.

New editor updates
A lot more items now use the editor stacking system, including things like walls and trees.

There's also some large scale new items added to the buildings tab if you own the Creative Pack DLC. A chained floating island, which you can build upon (add a local portal to get up there :D).

Chained magical rocks

Finally some classic evil towers.

Have a great Christmas, we'll see you in the new year!

Latest Patch: Growing up!

The patch today includes bringing the game engine RPG World runs on up to date with the latest version, which boosts performance when doing anything in RPG World. We have been wanting to update for a long time but put it off because of the amount of work, but here we are, all new and shiny.

I am currently working on the first stage of opening up the creation to be more user-driven. The first step is allowing the creator to switch to "custom mode" and chose the character the player will be when playing the game (created from Character Creator). This will set new players into your game at level 1 and save their character details along with the save file when they exit. Next step from that will be switching off random loot and allowing the creator to define which loot drops where, or perhaps the loot is a reward from a quest. Further steps on from that will let you name and set the stats of the loot. Further still will allow for individual tweaking of enemies to set their stats.

Massbot has returned from his journey into the Blighted lands and has created some content for this update (and will be continuing to work on RPG World alongside me). Haris, has also created a range of great items that will be appearing in various patches, the first item of which is a portal in today's patch.

The theme of this content update is giant vines! Nice and big to wrap around props and buildings, also includes an overgrown portal.

The patch notes can be found here

These are available if you've already purchased the Creative Pack.

See you soon.

Mage Pyromancer

The first of the mages has arrived for testing, the pyromancer. The pyromancer is a dynamic, high damage mage that is able to translocate out of danger and freeze (AoE) all enemies within a close range around him.
As well as the fireball (which is great as an opener) the pyromancer can also cast arcane and frost damage. Arcane is medium damage (but quicker to cast than the fireball) where frost is lower damage but applies a frost slowing effect to enemies hit by it.

Not just a change of name - MyWorld has become RPG World!
In a move to better describe our sandbox RPG game maker, we have today re-named MyWorld to RPG World and introduced character progression to give users a better RPG gameplay experience.

We have also chosen to make the core RPG World product FREE to use, so we can increase the activity of our online multiplayer worlds and get more users visiting users creations. To make this work, some of the assets have been moved to a new 'Creative Pack' DLC. However, all existing owners of MyWorld will get The Creative Pack DLC for free, so won't lose any of their features or assets in the change over to RPG World.

Free Version of RPG World
We always intended to make a free version so you could try RPG World before you buy, but as we worked on the addition we realised it would make more sense for the free and paying users to be part of the same universe. So now the base product is free with some restrictions; such as only being able to create two worlds, no ability to upload your worlds to the Steam workshop, and you can't add created characters to your own worlds.

Character Progression
Any good RPG game needs a form of character progression, so the player can choose how their characters evolve through the game. In RPG World you will now find a fully functional character progression system and for those who have amassed plenty of XP, you will be able to spend that XP in choosing the skills you want your character to have. We will expand the character progression system with more skills and buffs, and will listen (as always) to our community for ideas and guidance on what to include in future updates.

Huge speed boost
We have been hard at work making RPG World faster and are pleased to report that on the larger levels we have achieved over 300% speed improvement, taking a typically large level that ran at 14fps to over 60fps. Now there is no barrier to creating huge levels, even on a basic system or laptop.

The Creative Pack
Existing users will receive The Creative Pack DLC for free when they auto-update. New users of the Free core product will have to buy The Creative Pack DLC but this will grant users the ability to create unlimited worlds, plus upload an unlimited number of games to the Steam workshop and host games to share with others. Users will also be able to save the characters they create for use in the worlds they create and share.

The Year Ahead
2017 was a big learning curve for our small team and we managed to implement a huge update in a short time. We have some exciting things planned for RPG World in 2018 - adding more RPG elements, giving you deep control over the rules that govern your game levels and player progression and, as always, we'll continue to bring you more game assets for your creations.

We hope you enjoy the new RPG World - happy game making!

RPG World - Action RPG Maker - Rick

We felt it was about time to bring you a content update, adding more free content to the MyWorld universe and this time opting for a distinctly woodland theme, including a total of 29 new shape items that include ramps, walls, blocks and planks under a new 'shapes' tab in the game editor.

We also have some big ticket items for your players to discover as they explore the deeper woodlands including broken and shattered portals, a mysterious tree alter and a wrecked bridge.

If you do make it through the woods, we have created a nice table and chair set to rest during your adventure, and a light to keep the monsters at bay.

We've also made some small fixes to the Samurai Temple doors so you can now lock them, and fixed the small hedges from the nature theme so they no longer suffer when a world is reloaded.

You can read about all the updates in this version HERE.

Until next time we look forward to bringing you more exciting news and great features in the very near future.

Every now and again in the MyWorld universe, you come across something special, and behind the scenes is a creator just like you!  We are excited to welcome one such individual who knows how to create a great game, and his name is TheHeroOfTimeAndSpace, the author of Dolamar’s Revenge, available from the Steam Workshop.

TheHeroOfTimeAndSpace was kind enough to answer a few questions about his experiences with making the game, hopefully inspiring others to follow in his footsteps.

Q1. When did you first discover MyWorld and had you created a game before that time?

Before I discovered MyWorld, I was a huge fan of Fight The Dragon, a game similar to MyWorld, where I built a small collection of games as well. After having fully exploited its editor for years, I thought it was time for something different. That’s when I jumped into MyWorld at its release on Steam last year.

Q2. What was the most enjoyable part of the game making process, the level design or the story, or something else?

My favorite game creation part is probably the brainstorming phase. It’s just so fun to toy around in the editor and come up with quirky creations in the process which then inspire me to build a story around them. Then I throw my ‘cast’ of NPCs into the mix, and it becomes one big brainstorm fest where I can let my imagination loose and make up funny scenes for my story :)

Q3. How long did it take you to complete Dolamar’s Revenge?

I might not be the fastest creator around, but I’ve been working on Dolamar’s Revenge about 30 minutes a day for 3 months. And I’m not even talking about all the brainstorming between each of those sessions. This allowed me to polish the game and keep pondering on the next part to build.

Q4. What feature would you like to see which you think will improve your game further?

More NPC interaction. Storytelling could be more immersive if you were able to move NPCs around, give them emotions, have them spawned at chosen times etc. Other things I’m really looking forward to are in-game notifications and special effects like fire and rain.

Q5. What advice would you give someone thinking about making their own game?

My greatest advice to new creators is to not be too ambitious with your first creation. It takes quite some experience to build great games and that’s why my very first games (in Fight The Dragon) weren’t bestsellers either. But if you keep practicing your creative skills with each game you make, you will eventually be able to create that one dream game you want to make.
