Paint the Town Red - Eternic
We've been testing the level editor and Steam Workshop support on a publicly available beta branch for the past week and have decided to move the latest build to the main branch so everyone can more easily participate in creating and playing user generated levels. From now until version 0.7 is completed and released the 'earlytests' beta and the default, non-beta build on Steam will be the same.

This is not the final release of 0.7. That release will feature a new main menu and more sophisticated ways to view/download/rate/sort user created levels. In this version the current interface for choosing levels to play is temporary and basic and there may be other issues with the level editor and user levels.

We have a level editor guide that we're continuing to update: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=822351096
Check out the forum discussion about the level editor here for information and if you have any questions: http://steamcommunity.com/app/337320/discussions/0/152392549353512691/

The level editor will continue to be improved and added to over time including more props, weapons, materials & characters, more logic operations and events, etc. You will also be able to update your existing levels soon.

Version 0.7 will also add coop multiplayer support for all user created levels and we're aiming to have that be complete and available in early January. Expect a full changelog covering the changes from 0.6.5 to 0.7 then.

The 'earlytests' beta branch has been updated with the new Level Editor and the ability to play levels from the Steam Workshop. To opt-in to this beta, right-click Paint the Town Red in your Steam Library, choose Properties and choose 'earlytests' from the dropdown in the BETAS tab.

The Level Editor is a work in progress. Usability and functionality will improve and available content will increase over time, but there are already a lot of possibilities. We're working on an official guide that gives information on the controls and how things work and we'll be updating it with more information and video tutorials over the coming days.

Right now the interface for selecting and playing downloaded levels is very basic and temporary as the entire main menu will be replaced in the final release of version 0.7. There will be more information and options for the downloaded levels in the new menu. The ability to play any user created level in co-op multiplayer will also be coming in the final 0.7 release.

We're expecting 0.7 to be complete and available within the next 2 weeks.

Head into this forum thread for discussion about the Level Editor and post there if you have any questions or find any bugs.

For anyone with issues finding how to opt into the beta, after right clicking the game in your Steam Library and choosing Properties, look at this image to see where the option is in the BETAS tab.

Patch Info & News

Version 0.6.2 is now available with a couple of minor multiplayer improvements for syncing the visuals of enemies being shocked and smited, some Arena weapons in the Sandbox and a number of post processing effect changes and improvements that will improve image quality.

This version is also using an updated version of the engine which might have unforeseen side-effects so let us know in the comments or forum if there are any new issues.

This version adds version checking to the multiplayer so you can't join servers hosted from a different version of the game. Note that while people transition to 0.6.2, there might be issues if people on 0.6.1 or older join a 0.6.2 server which will be possible at the moment. Make sure you're updated before trying to play multiplayer to avoid issues.

Temporal Anti-aliasing (TAA) is now available in the graphics options which gives an improved result over the previous highest setting SMAA with similar performance.

Edit: To fix a significant new bug (as of version 0.6.0) where heads, arms, etc would disappear when a body was cut in two, 0.6.3 is now available.

Version 0.6.3
  • Fixed bug from 0.6.0 where body parts would disappear when bodies were cut through
  • Performance improvements when spawning enemies in Sandbox

Version 0.6.2
  • Multiplayer: Other player's Smite visually represented
  • Multiplayer: Sync enemies getting electrocuted
  • Prevent joining coop games hosted from a different version
  • Added Arena weapons to Sandbox
  • Added Temporal Antialiasing option
  • Improved SMAA and FXAA Antialiasing
  • Fixed blood in the Arena covering dropped weapons
  • Improved Motion Blur
  • Optimisation of some post processing effects

Version 0.6.1
  • Fixed groin censor on naked prisoner in single player

Version 0.6 is now available and is focused on the cooperative multiplayer mode for the scenarios and Arena challenges. While there's still more work to be done for features, improvements and bug fixes for the coop, the main gameplay features are implemented and many players have been helping to test these during development which we appreciate.

Right now depending on your ping some elements of the gameplay will feel less responsive than in single player if you aren't hosting, but this will continue to be improved.

Some upcoming improvements to the coop
  • Smoother sync of ragdolled enemies
  • Player death animation/ragdoll
  • Different starting positions for players
  • Improvements to the menu/UI for multiplayer
  • Better sync of severed body parts
  • Visuals for other player's powers
  • Improvements to player animation blending
  • Extra objects (afros, beards, hats, etc) on enemies
  • Reduction in bandwidth requirements

The upload speed required when hosting a game will be higher on levels with more enemies and weapons, and will also be higher with more players. If you are hosting and people in your game report issues such as enemies sliding around and not animating, you might need to only host with 2 players and/or stick with the Arena challenges which have a lower bandwidth requirement. We'll continue to optimize bandwidth requirements going forward so this will improve.

If you encounter major issues with the multiplayer please let us know on the Steam forum.

This version also fixes the Gfycat GIF uploading that hasn't been working for the past month since API changes on the Gfycat end.

Note: This initial release of this update contained a bug in single player where all enemies would attack one enemy in each level. This has been fixed and the update should be available shortly for you if not already.

Version 0.6.0
  • Added Multiplayer Co-op for Scenarios and Arena challenges
  • Fixed offset of entries in leaderboards at certain resolutions
  • Fixed Gfycat upload

Next Major Update

We've already started working on the level editor for version 0.7 and plan on providing access to this for testing as it develops soon in the 'earlytests' beta branch on Steam soon.
