Hey all! Sorry for the delay with this update, been working on my next game (check it out here).

This is a huge update though and I'm super excited to release it.

Capes are back!
Capes haven't been in the game for a while, but finally they're back

I've designed loads of awesome capes, including bringing back the super exclusive top 100 cape for the top 100 worldwide Paint Warfare players :)

This is probably the rarest item in the game, and in general I want capes to be rare.

Potions

Introducing potions! Potions give you a special boost for a life and you can buy them in bundles of 10. For now theres's 3 potions in the game:
  • Anti-gravity potion: - this one's mostly for fun, it makes you jump super high and feel like you're in space
  • Regeneration potion: - gives you a slight health regeneration boost
  • XP potion: - doubles your XP, stacks with the supporter double XP boost

Ability Upgrades
You can now upgrade most abilities to level 6 or 10 now. Upgrades include increasing the duration of the invisibility boost, dashing further, or making the grapple hook pull you more!
Each upgrade is just a slight buff for now (but this may change in the future).

Balancing
  1. Nerfed the rocket launcher. Its reload speed is now double as long (5s instead of 2.5)

Polish and bug fix
  • Decreased game size to under 1GB
  • Fixed bugs with maps
  • Added a pop up advertising my upcoming game
  • Changed the russian and english tutorial voice over to reflect auto sprint being on by default
  • Fixed a bug that caused the UI for active invisibility/ half shield ability to not be visisble
  • Fixed a bug that caused purchasing weapon skins to fail sometimes
  • UI improvements
  • Fixed a pricing issue with coins, basically the casket of coins is a better deal now
  • You now get 25% more coins than before on sack, casket and chest of coins
  • Fixed a bug that caused the under water area to be broken in the tutorial level

Paint Warfare was at PAX and SXSW Australia last week. I noticed a couple issues and bugs which I fixed over a couple updates :)

1.32.2
  • Player effects are now disabled in first person
  • Buffed all rocket jumping with explosives
  • Fixed models in Mafia Island

1.32.3
  • Fixed burst/palas gun model
  • Fixed mine launcher model
  • Fixed missing models in Dragon Valley
  • Fixed a bug where the teleport orb was invisible
  • Fixed microtransactions
  • Fixed the game end leaderboard from being hidden in the Airfield map

1.32.4
  • Can now double click in the armoury or cosmetics menu to equip/buy
  • Added a pop up for capturing points in point capture mode
  • Made the health bar bigger and clearer
  • Added auto sprint
  • Slide is now bound to shift by default and the walk key is control. If you played since before this update, your controls should be unaffected
  • Improved a bug where asian translations would be simply white squares. This still exists but the game should be more usable now
  • Fixed bugs with changing languages
  • Implemented 1.32.2, 1.32.3 changes in macOS builds ---> so macOS now has all the fixes like everyone else

Hello! The hunger games mode needed some love so that was the focus for this update.

Hunger Games Changes
  • Made a huge completely new map for hunger games
  • Added healing zones
  • Buffed HP from 300 to 500
  • Added hunger games to the map rotation so its easier to play
  • Improved spectating







9 New Ranks
For a lot of the more experienced players, there's now a lot more for you to unlock! I've added 9 more ranks with 2 free hats and a lot of coins.
Rank 29 is super hard to get to but if you do you'll finally be able to unlock the snowball machine gun in game! — A splash damage machine gun.



Other Improvements
  • Flamethrowers now leave fire FX on the ground
  • Fixed freeze gun particle (was not spawning before)
  • Buffed med kit heal size by x2
  • For other players, when they use grapple hooks the rope will now follow the player instead of staying where the grapple was originally started

Fixes:
  • Fixed bugs that caused shadows and lighting to not render properly since 1.30.0
  • Removed the AO setting in graphics settings. This option is now automatically turned off on lower graphics settings (like before) and uses a more optimized version on default graphics settings
  • Lower graphics settings now use more optimized water
  • Fixed a bug that caused the key bind tips (for beginners) to be broken
  • Fixed a bug that caused weapons that are locked to be equippable

Heya

New Map: Palace!



Introducing palace—a map set in the ruins of a billionaire's mansion.

New Gamemode: King Of the Hill
  • Palace is the first map to be king of the hill
  • It's basically FFA BUT
  • There's a hot zone that gives you crazy amounts of points, and it changes location ever 45 seconds

Dunes Reworks
I've finally overhauled the OG map





Basically I've made it 1.5x bigger and added lots of new areas and 3 huge cranes you can climb. I'm super proud of it so check it out!

Reworked Movement
If you liked the new movement, you'll LOVE the new movement. There's 2 general changes in the way the movement works.

1. Added momentum
Now every action you take, like dashing, grappling, using speed boosts/ramps builds momentum. Basically what this means is you can keep your super fast speed for a while instead of it instantly going away.
Momentum is also used in slides now so your slide speed is based on how fast you were going before.

2. Reworked the abilities
  • Buffed the dash duration and made it more consistent
  • Completely overhauled the grapple hook. It's now a swing instead of pulling you towards a target (you can still grapple to the roof– use it to build momentum). This differentiates it from jetpack more.
  • The jetpack now slowly builds up speed instead of instantly making you fly. This means that if you're falling and you use it it will take a while to break your fall. Also if you use it long enough you can fly really fast up.
  • Buffed jetpack duration 5s —> 15s

Fixed Coin Purchasing
Buying coins has been broken for the past few updates—I've finally gotten around to fixing it.

So uh yeah- I can finally make money from Paint Warfare xD
Coins are also super cheap now :)

Other
  • New ingame leaderboard that shows player's ranks

  • A lot of new VFX
  • New player respawn shield VFX

  • New grapple rope visuals
  • Added a hook to the end of the grapple rope
  • Paint splatters last 4x longer and are bigger (they're also more optimised now)

Kingfisher Rework:
  • Made the kingfisher barrel bigger so it looks more like a shotgun to new players
  • It now has kickback so you can shoot it at your feet to jump up higher

  • Added keybinds for weapon switching
  • Added an option to disable/enable AO (shadows in the corners of objects)
  • Added an option to enable motion blur
  • Added an option to add a slight blur to your hands/when using sights (which I think looks nice)

Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed a bug where the ability/weapon equip menus were completely broken and nothing could be equipped
  • Fixed a bug where joining a game by code would join the wrong game
  • Reduced the brightness of Koto and other maps
  • Fixed a bug where paint and kick splatters wouldn't show on top of some objects
  • Fixed a bug where the removed snowball machine gun would leave pink boxes where it shot
  • Fixed a bug where 3D icons wouldnt load in the cosmetics tab

New Menu
The Paint Warfare Menu hasn't changed much since the game released into early access in 2019. It had a lot of issues—like for example it wasn't clear to new users how to equip/unlock different guns and abilities.

So I've spent a lot of time redesigning and organising everything better:







There's a lot more of course...

Another cool change is that when there is a new game modifier, a short description of it pops up for a few seconds to help new players.


Equip 3 Guns At Once


Paint Warfare has rocket/grenade jumping (which is a really awesome mechanic) and I want this to be available to you no matter what your loadout is.

So that's why I've created a new "Explosives" weapon class so you can switch between one of 3 weapons you have equiped.

(NEW) Change Gun/Ability in Pause Menu


Reduced Coin Prices
  • 300 coins [$3.99 USD ---> $0.99 USD]
  • 1000 coins [$4.99 USD ---> $2.99 USD]
  • 2300 coins [$9.99 USD] ---> 2500 coins [$5.99 USD]
  • 5500 coins (NEW) [$11.99 USD]

You can now do more with your coins....
  • Reduced the price of Abilities from 150 coins to 100 coins to make them easier to unlock without paying

Koto is now Team Deathmatch
Capture the flag wasn't very fun on Koto from testing so I've decided to make it a team deathmatch map. Hopefully this makes the map more popular as I think its super well suited for vertical movement. :)

  • Added bots option to custom games
  • Fixed UI bug on AMD GPUs
  • Reinvested a bunch of money into some new assets—added a completely new water shader and birds on Mafia Island. The castle map also now has some ice on it
  • Added a new cursor
  • Added new screen VFX for burning, frozen and healing
  • Player names are now based on Steam username
  • Fixed issues with the keybind menu breaking and hidden UI
  • Added a trampoline on the top of one of the towers in the castle map
  • Other bug fixes and improvements
