Night School Studio, the developer behind acclaimed narrative adventure Oxenfree and its highly anticipated sequel, has been acquired by Netflix.

Night School has gained a reputation for creating engaging, sharply written adventures with a strong focus on narrative across the four games it's launched since its founding in 2014. After 2016's critically lauded Oxenfree, the developer released a well-received Mr. Robot tie-in, 1.51exfiltrati0n, followed by pub-crawl-through-hell adventure Afterparty and the Apple-exclusive space escapade Next Stop Nowhere. Notably, given the acquisition news, the studio was also reported to have been developing an unannounced Stranger Things project in conjunction with Telltale Games at one time, before the latter company's collapse.

More recently, Night School confirmed it's working on an Oxenfree sequel, Lost Signals, for release on Switch, PlayStation, and PC next year.

Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals' villains have started infiltrating the original horror game.

Following an update deployed during the summer (or Q3 for those of you in the southern hemisphere), a series of spooky tweets from developer Night School, and another mysterious patch deployed a few days back, new radio transmissions are now available in the original game, a full half-decade after it was originally released (thanks, PCGN).

"We tried to stop it. We failed," states a mysterious tweet from the developer's official Twitter account, hinting that the villains of the new game are so powerful, they're affecting the source code of the original game.

If you're on PC and in the mood for a freebie, Epic has revealed the next two games to be made available for nowt on its store: Slime Rancher and Oxenfree.

Up first is Slime Rancher, available now until March 21st. If you've not yet had the pleasure, Slime Rancher an exceptionally odd, yet oddly engrossing, experience that plays out something like an extremely chilled first-person farming game. Except, your farm is on a distant alien planet, and the bulk of your responsibilities involve breeding (and cross-breeding!) strange gelatinous goo balls known as Slimes.

There are plenty of regular farm-like things to do, including growing crops to feed to your Slimes and earning cash to expand your facilities in order to accomodate more breeds, but a significant part of the adventure involves exploring the colourful wilds outside your ranch.

Free games have intermittently been made available to Twitch Prime subscribers in the past, of course - and members can currently download Devil May Cry HD for free. However, it looks like a monthly selection of free PC games will now formally be included in the Prime membership package, under the imaginatively titled Free Games with Prime banner.

This month, subscribers will receive Superhot, Oxenfree, Shadow Tactics, Mr. Shifty, and strategy-RPG Tales from Candlekeep: Tomb of Annihilation, with April bringing Telltale's wonderful Tales from the Borderlands, SteamWorld Dig 2, Tokyo 42, Kingsway, and Dubwars.
