Overcooked! 2

Overcooked! 2 is free to download from the Epic Games Store.

The panicky culinary party game is free on Epic's store now until 4pm UK time on 24th June. It normally costs £19.99.

"While not the most ambitious sequel, Overcooked 2 still ranks among the best couch co-op has to offer," kitchen master Johnny Chiodini wrote, recommending the game in Eurogamer's Overcooked! 2 review.

Overcooked! All You Can Eat will launch for PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 23rd March priced £30/$40/€40.

This is the full-fat compilation of everything the party game series has offered across Overcooked 1 and 2, plus a little bit more, all on one plate. It first arrived for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S last year.

Content-wise, all versions are the same - the package delivers more than 200 levels, 80 chefs, new achievements and more accessibility options.

Overcooked

If you've ever wanted all the stress of cooking in a busy kitchen without the reward of the delicious food that comes from it then look no further than the Epic Games Store this week.

Until 11th July Epic's free-to-keep game is Overcooked - a simple, frustrating, yet incredibly fun couch co-op cooking game that will make or break your friendships. Developed by Team 17, it's a top down game where you play as chefs running a kitchen and serving food in order to save the world. You can play on your own or with up to four friends (which I highly recommend for maximum inefficiency and laughs).

When people say communication is vital in gaming, I'm pretty sure this is game they're referring to. You'll need to work together to make dishes and fulfil orders in constantly changing kitchens. In solo mode you'll need to coordinate yourself as you switch to chefs in different parts of the kitchen. Each level in Overcooked will see you overcome new challenges - be that new dishes or new environmental events, such as cooking inside a rotating space station, or racing against time to serve your food before an earthquake separates the level.

Overcooked! 2

The game most well known for transforming your friends into Gordon Ramsay is getting yet another expansion, as a camping-themed DLC has been announced for Overcooked 2.

Moving beyond the tropical and Chinese New Year themes of the past two DLCs, Campfire Cook Off is stirring things up by letting players "head into the forests of the Onion Kingdom to cook under the stars". Players will be able to cook their way around a brand new map comprising of 12 levels, along with new recipes, playable chefs and some mysterious new mechanics.

Unlike the free Surf n' Turf DLC, this one will set you back 4.49 - although Team 17 has simultaneously unveiled a new season pass, which will get you this and two further DLC packs for 14.99. In other words, that's "all the content released in 2019". It sounds like we've got at least two further packs coming this year, so if you're really into Overcooked, you can now put your money where your mouth is.

Overcooked! 2

Mouthwatering multiplayer masterpiece Overcooked 2 serves up a fresh survival mode today, as part of a generous free DLC.

Released in time for Chinese New Year, the seasonal update includes seven new kitchens with fresh hazards (including a Chinese dancing dragon), new chefs, and a new mechanic (woks, which must be kept bubbling over a fire).

Survival mode, meanwhile, adds back time with every dish you serve. It's supported for all levels in the main game, Surf n' Turf paid DLC, and free season updates.

Overcooked! 2

Pack your utensils, Overcooked 2's tropical themed DLC, Surf 'n' Turf, is available right now on all platforms.

Surf 'n' Turf brings with it 12 new campaign levels, two new Versus levels and one secret Kevin level too. You've got all new chefs donning aprons as well, with one taking the form of a parrot (naturally), and the opportunity to get cooking in a host of new sun-baked kitchens.

There are two new recipes to toy around with as well. You can dice up fruit and chuck it in blenders to create smoothies, or pop some skewered meat and veg on the BBQ to rustle up kebabs. If it all gets a bit heated in the kitchen, you can now douse flames with a quick squirt from a water pistol, or use it to rile up your fellow chefs even further.

Overcooked! 2

In many ways, playing Overcooked 2 is like returning to a favourite restaurant after a long absence and ordering what you always used to have. The comfort of familiar, nourishing food is hugely enjoyable, of course, but it's the sense of coming back to something that's truly special. When playing Overcooked 2 there's a lot more shouting and swearing, but the principle is the same - this sequel is strikingly similar to the first game, but a few well-chosen additions and refinements breathe new life into one of the best couch co-op experiences going.

For its part, Overcooked 2 assumes its players are already familiar with the first game and isn't shy about ramping up the difficulty early on. This means a steeper learning curve for anybody new to the series, but on the whole it's a good thing - before you've so much as finished the first game world, you're already tackling more intricate recipes and employing far more advanced strategies than the equivalent stages in the first Overcooked.

New recipes include sushi, pasta and steamed dumplings, while returning favourites such as burgers and pizza feature additional ingredients to make things a little more fiddly. Right from the get-go, then, Overcooked 2 demands more from its players. Add some truly ambitious level layouts to the mix and it comes as no surprise that the 'food burning/fire imminent' alarm is one you'll be hearing a lot more in Overcooked 2. Moving parts and sudden divides are nothing new to seasoned players, of course, but these obstacles are now more numerous - and nefarious - than ever.
