Hello!

Following hot on the heels of the massive Worlds Part II update back in January which introduced a whole range of visual enhancements, gameplay additions and quality of life improvements, the small No Man’s Sky team have let their imaginations run wild and been having a lot of fun playing around with something really whimsical but remarkably transformative for what is possibly our most surprising update yet. We’re calling it RELICS and it is available to download free to existing players from today. Full patch notes are available here.

Since launch, because of the way that No Man’s Sky’s planetary terrain works, No Man’s Sky players have enjoyed being able to dig down through the earth to find buried technologies or other valuable items hidden beneath their feet. From today, players will start to find a whole new category of palaeontological finds - the skeletal remains of alien creatures which used to inhabit these worlds. So terrain manipulators at the ready!

Just as the living creatures which continue to populate the star systems, there is a huge variety of prehistoric bones, in all shapes and sizes, to excavate and collect. It’s up to you how you reassemble them and there’s a lot of fun to be had building ever-more outrageous skeletons to put on display in your bases-turned-museums or share with your fellow Travellers.

Much like with the aquatic life from the Aquarius expedition from last year, the skulls and bones out there to be discovered vary hugely in rarity so you never quite know what you’re going to unearth. The most uncommon finds hold huge value and can be bartered with at the Space Station.

To coincide with RELICS, a tailor-made community expedition starts shortly which challenges players to compete for the rarest finds.

Players should be wary where they choose to excavate though. Much like how the Sentinels keep watch above ground, or the fiends protect their whispering eggs, dangerous artefact creatures guard the greatest treasure and can be easily awoken from their eon-long slumber!

The RELICS update brings the sense of a before-time to No Man’s Sky and we think players will have a lot of fun digging into the new-found palaeontology of the universe. Who knows, they may even find the massive skeleton of the epic and awesome Titan Worm.

The year got off to a great start with Worlds Part II and we welcomed a huge influx of new players. I can’t wait to show you what else we have in store for 2025.

Full patch notes for RELICS can be found here.

Our journey continues.

Hello everyone!

Following on from last month’s massive Worlds Part II update, today we are launching our seventeenth expedition: TITAN, and inviting the entire community to explore some of the new planets introduced in Worlds Part II.

Awaken upon the spectacular but dangerous New Aftesfi, a titanic gas giant ravaged by tornadoes and encircled by moons. Chart a course between rendezvous points to reach a dazzling array of new stars and new worlds, endless oceans and cloud-skimming mountains.

Titan begins today, and will run for approximately six weeks. Participating Travellers can complete milestones to earn a generous spread of exclusive rewards:

Titan Expedition Rewards

Gas Giant, Depth Warning, and Cartographer’s posters
Commemorate your journey through the Titan expedition with these stylish and colourful posters.

“Titan Stripes” Ship Customisation
An exclusive starship customisation option, creating a vibrant and eye-catching appearance for Fighter and Hauler class starships.

Surveyor’s Cape
A robust and well-made covering: waterproof, windproof and designed to keep the wearer protected against anything they may encounter while exploring unmapped worlds.

“Pillar of Titan” Staff
This sturdy staff is hewn from polished stone, and yet floats in the hand as if it were no weight at all. It is a perfect companion to those who seek to make long trips across the wilderness.

The Wraith
Survey new worlds in the Titan Expedition to claim The Wraith, a unique living ship dredged from the inky depths of a water world.

Once earned, these rewards may be redeemed across all your save games.

Begin the Titan expedition from the Expedition Terminus aboard the Space Anomaly, or from a fresh new save, which you can later choose to convert a Normal Mode save.

Note that new saves converted to Normal Mode in this way will continue to have access to the new purple star systems, and the story mission In Stellar Multitudes will not be available.

Our upcoming game, Light No Fire, is powered by the same engine that drives No Man’s Sky. If you’re interested to see where we take our technology next, you can keep up with news by wishlisting Light No Fire on Steam here.

Development Update

In addition to launching the Titan expedition today, we’ve released an update for No Man’s Sky, version 5.55, which includes a number of high-priority fixes and improvements. The patch notes are available here.

Thank you for playing. We have so much more planned for 2025!

Hello!

No Man’s Sky is a game that we all genuinely truly love. Last year we released Worlds Part I and I remember thinking at the time that this is just the beginning. We can’t wait to show people what we’ve been working on! There’s new solar systems, new planets with more variety, new terrain types, even new Gas Giants, and of course new adventures. Our next update is called Worlds Part II. Full patch notes are available here.

Worlds Part II allows us to push the boundaries of our engine with new technology.

Across the universe we’re adding billions of new solar systems and trillions of new planets, and introducing new biomes and terrains without changing what people already love about the game. It’s now so far beyond what we ever thought was possible when we started out.

I’ve been working on a new terrain system for a little while now. Terrain is more detailed and far more varied with huge mountains and these massive features. I’m genuinely at my happiest working on this stuff.

The team is extremely busy on Light No Fire (wishlist it here!). Each time we push our engine to new places though we have this urge to share it with the community, with No Man’s Sky.

Gas giants are truly epic, ten times bigger than our biggest planet. It’s truly end-game stuff to explore them with huge storms that rage across the surface.

New tech allows oceans that can be several kilometers deep. A new lighting system makes them look so different. New caustics, light shafts and the deeper that you explore the darker it gets. I’ve had these moments where you’re exploring and suddenly some huge creature comes into view and it’s just incredible.

Every element of our lighting has been rewritten. Shadows show more details, light flickers through the leaves, caves are dark and immersive. Oceans now reflect the clouds and stars to create these beautiful sunsets and night skies.

Water reacts physically to the world around it. Creatures wade through it. There’s little dimples in the rain, and there are large waves as ships fly overhead. Sometimes there’s these moments where a ship just flies past the still ocean and the water ripples underneath and it’s just so peaceful to watch.

In the depths of the ocean and on land there’s these new creatures to discover. I think we’ve gone probably weirder than ever before. When you land on a planet all the tech combines to create an emotion, that feeling of knowing that no one has ever been on this world before. I think it’s what makes this game really special.

There’s tonnes of new gameplay too. There’s this huge quest that ties together some strands that we’ve been building for years. We’ve got an expedition that takes you on a tour of all the new worlds that we’re building and it’s got some incredible rewards.

This is our ninth year since release. I think we’re doing things that the community probably never thought would happen. I honestly can’t wait for you all to play.

Full patch notes are available here.

Our journey continues.

Hello!

As part of our season of 2024 Expedition Reduxes, the Aquarius Expedition goes live today. It will run for two weeks until 22nd January.

Back in September 2024, we launched the Aquarius update, and with it introduced fishing to No Man's Sky, partly because it's just a fun thing to do alone or with friends, but mostly to show off the new water effects which the Worlds Part I update had ushered in a few months before!

It's fair to say that introducing something as seemingly incongruous as fishing into a sci-fi world has been met with almost universal joy from the community. Clearly there was a pent-up need to pause the exploration, base-building, or adventuring for a while, find a suitable waterside spot, and sit and relax while waiting to see what the catch of the day would be!

The Aquarius Update also introduced a new waterborne platform, the ExoSkiff which enables you to venture further from the shoreline and fish for bigger catches in deeper waters.

The Aquarius Expedition which accompanied the update encouraged Travellers to explore the vast array of water expanses the universe had to offer and hone their angling skills in the pursuit of the limited time rewards, not least the Deep Sea diving suit and Aquarius Flight Pack.

These rewards and many more are once again available to claim from today for those who embark on the Aquarius Expedition Redux which runs from the 8th to the 22nd January.

The final Redux of the 2024 Expeditions, The Cursed, which includes the vaunted UFO-style Boundary Herald Starship will follow on 22nd January.

The small No Man's Sky team are working very hard on some really exciting things for 2025 and we can't wait to share them with you very soon.

Our journey continues.

Hello Everyone!

The first of 2024’s holiday expeditions has just come to an end: the redux of Omega. We’ve loved reading everyone’s expedition anecdotes and positive feedback, and seeing the incredible popularity of the Starborn Runner starship. However, if you missed this opportunity to claim the Starborn Runner (or if you just can’t get enough of its hovership design) we have some very good news…

Today, in association with The Game Awards 2024 and to celebrate our Best Community Support nomination, we are excited to reveal the Starborn Phoenix, a limited edition golden starship.

The Starborn Phoenix is free to claim on Steam right now, until 10:00 PT / 18:00 GMT on Dec 19th - even if you don’t own No Man’s Sky. You can then redeem your ship in-game from the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion aboard the Space Anomaly.

Claim your Starborn Phoenix starship on Steam here.

***

In addition, the Adrift expedition, first run back in May of this year, is running again now, offering one more chance to unlock another sought-after starship, exclusive to Adrift - the Iron Vulture.

Alone in an empty universe, Adrift redefines what it means to survive among the stars. Communications from other Travellers are consumed by static, and in a reality devoid of other lifeforms, there are no shops, no trading, no shortcuts and no help, providing a very different survival experience.

The Adrift expedition runs for two weeks until 25th December.

The remaining expedition redux dates are as follows:

Liquidators: 25th Dec - 8th Jan

Aquarius: 8th Jan - 22nd Jan

The Cursed: 22nd Jan - 5th Feb

While you’re enjoying these second bites of the expedition cherry over the holiday season, know that the tiny No Man’s Sky team are working hard on more surprises for 2025.

We’d like to wish our entire community very happy holidays!

Our journey continues.

Hello Folks!

Last night we finally did it! After eight years, we crossed the 80% positive review threshold on Steam to earn a "Very Positive" badge on "ALL REVIEWS". Honestly, I didn't think we'd ever do this, and it's all thanks to you all in the community. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

We have nearly quarter of a million reviews, so mathematically it's pretty hard to change the % that are positive! For every 10,000 players, maybe 100 review the game. If 80% of those reviews are positive, the first 79 don't change our %, only that 80th person makes a difference! Ten thousands players, resulting in a single extra positive, dropped into an ocean of quarter of a million existing reviews! It gets geometrically harder the higher you climb too - so moving from 70% to 71% took us a month, but moving from 79% to 80% took nearly a year! We figured it might never happen - but it has and it genuinely means so much to us.

This year has been particularly busy for our tiny team, with the launch of four major updates: Omega, Orbital, Aquarius and the mammoth Worlds Part I. Most recently we have introduced cross-save to enable players across a huge number of platforms to bring their progress to other devices.

We have also run five large expeditions throughout the year, each one packed with unique challenges and exclusive rewards. If you missed out on any of these, we just started a re-run of these over the holidays.

No Man's Sky is absolutely our Labor of Love and it would mean the world to us if you've enjoyed any of our work throughout the years, you could pop an "x" in our box.

Oh, and maybe consider wishlisting our next game, Light No Fire, while you're at it!

Our journey continues.

Hello Everyone!

2024 has been another impactful year for No Man’s Sky, with the team pouring so much love into every update. OMEGA, ORBITAL, WORLDS PART I and AQUARIUS added breadth and depth to so many areas of the universe - from a complete overhaul of the expedition system, starship customisation, elaborate new space stations, new planetary biomes, incredible rendering improvements to water and clouds, and so much more. A few weeks ago, we even introduced CROSS-SAVE between our huge number of supported platforms.

This year has also seen no fewer than five(!) community expeditions, bringing Travellers together in a certain corner of the universe to experience a themed event and work together to complete unique challenges and earn limited-time exclusive rewards.

We know that our players have busy lives, and know more than most that there are other games to play. That’s why, for the last couple of years, it has become customary for the No Man’s Sky team to re-run the expeditions from that year over the holiday period when leisure time is more plentiful, and in a “reduxed” form such that they can be completed and rewards unlocked with relative ease.

We will be re-running this year’s expeditions over two-week intervals from Thanksgiving weekend through December and January.

Omega: 27th Nov - 11th Dec

Answer the call of the universe in the Omega expedition. Explore, build, fight, and more through a diverse set of milestones, and unpick the threads of a mystery involving the past, the present, and what could be.

Adrift: 11th Dec - 25th Dec

Alone in an empty universe, the Adrift Expedition redefines what it means to survive among the stars. Communications from other Travellers are consumed by static, and in a reality devoid of other lifeforms, there are no shops, no trading, no shortcuts and no help, providing a very different survival experience.

Liquidators: 25th Dec - 8th Jan

Engage in a galactic bug hunt in this high-paced combat expedition, full of custom-balanced swarm combat. A vile brood is spreading corruption across the universe – join the Liquidator Vanguard to do your part and purge the rot from the stars!

Aquarius: 8th Jan - 22nd Jan

Go on a quest across the galaxy to catch fish, gather stories, and think about the one that got away. Find your perfect waterside spot and cast off, or venture into the ocean on your deployable Exo-Skiff. Craft specialist bait, establish a fish farm, cook seafood, and more.

The Cursed: 22nd Jan - 5th Feb

Fight to keep a grip on reality while haunted by visions and voices from another dimension. In this twilight realm, straddling the boundary between one reality and the next, there is no access to hyperdrive technology, and interstellar travel can only take place via the ancient portal network. Who do the haunting voices belong to, where are they coming from, and are they to be trusted?

These re-runs present another opportunity not only to experience these community events, but also to earn any missed rewards! Rewards for the 2024 expeditions include exclusive sets of Atlas, deep sea, and bug-themed customisations, the Iron Vulture, Starborn Runner, and Boundary Herald starships, a ghostly frigate, and so much more!

Please also take a moment to wishlist Light No Fire here!

No Man's Sky - timdog99
Hello,

This year has already been a very busy one for No Man’s Sky, with 6 updates already this year, including the huge Worlds Update. Our last update, The Cursed, dropped just a couple of weeks ago, and players have been loving the spooky Halloween vibe.

In game development some features take weeks or months, and others take years. Today we are releasing some features that have been years in the making.

Cross-Save

Starting from today we are rolling out Cross-Save support on all platforms. This has been a huge undertaking, and is one of most requested features.

Being able to jump seamlessly between platforms is really transformative. Players can play from the comfort of their sofa on console, continue an Expedition on the move with Switch or Steam Deck, build an incredible base on their beefy PC rig, and view it in incredibly immersive Virtual Reality.

No Man’s Sky now supports Cross-play and Cross-save between a huge number of platforms including PC, PlayStation 4 & Xbox One and Series X/S, Game Pass, GOG, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, PlayStation VR 1 & 2 and PCVR.

Adding the ability to transfer saves between platforms via a server is especially difficult for No Man’s Sky, as the work involved increases with each platform supported and how long folks have already been playing for. Both those numbers are large for our tiny team.

It’s very common for players to rack up thousands of hours of saves exploring across space, building elaborate bases and cataloging their discoveries, with incredibly detailed saves. Adding Cross-Save for us is a little bit like moving house, the longer people have lived there the more complicated it is to move them! We also have players who played once at launch, eight years ago, suddenly loading up that save on a platform that didn’t even exist back then!

For these reasons we have secretly been introducing the technology for this update for over 6 months. We are now ready to start rolling Cross-Save out to a small number of players. From today, all No Man’s Sky players can connect their different platform accounts together at https://cloud.nomanssky.com/cross-save. A subset of players will then be admitted to the beta. Participants in the beta will be able to upload and download saves from any connected platform, via the in-game save screen. In the coming weeks, all players will be invited to do so.

PlayStation 5 Pro

PlayStation 5 Pro releases today and is an incredible feat of engineering. We were so excited to get our hands on it from early days of development. We couldn’t wait to see what was possible in No Man’s Sky with so much power at our disposal!

We're excited to be able to share an enhanced version of No Man's Sky for PlayStation 5 Pro with players at launch. Bringing even more detail and higher image quality than ever possible on console before.

PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) allows for incredible upscaling to provide crisp 4K resolution at 60fps. No Man's Sky will also be an early supporter of 8k resolution, with the universe looking incredible in 8K at 30fps.

As well as a much sharper resolution at higher framerates, the increased power of the PlayStation 5 Pro has enabled us to ramp up the graphical quality across the board. Players on PlayStation 5 Pro will see improved lighting, with ultra quality reflections and higher quality ambient occlusion in all modes. Explore the most beautiful and detailed alien worlds No Man's Sky has to offer, for the first time on console.

Not only this, but all of these improvements also come to PSVR2! With our most stunning virtual reality imagery offering an even more immersive experience for Travellers amongst the stars.

The small team at Hello Games like nothing more than to play around with new technology. From supporting our players on first generation hardware, right back to Switch and PlayStation 4, to the highest end PCs, next generation consoles, and now support for cutting edge PlayStation Pro 5 is available at launch as another free update.

The PlayStation Pro update was already pushed live quietly in The Cursed update, so if you already have hardware, you can play it NOW!

The Normandy Returns

Everyone here at Hello Games is a huge sci-fi nerd. One of our absolute favourite series is the incredible Mass Effect games. To join in Mass Effect’s annual N7 celebrations, we are pleased to welcome the legendary SSV Normandy SR1 back into No Man’s Sky!

It was back in 2021 that the Normandy made its first appearance in one of the first expeditions we ever ran. The limited-time expedition starts today, runs for two weeks and culminates in players being able to claim the Normandy for their fleet.

In the intervening years since that event, we have welcomed a huge number of Travellers, not least a whole new cohort of Switch players and an increasingly large number of Chinese fans. Many of these new players have envied those who proudly displayed their Normandy in their frigate collection.

Mass Effect fans know that this legendary frigate only appears when it is most needed! Today, and for the next two weeks, as a love-letter from one science fiction game to another, we are giving everyone another chance to encounter the Normandy in an overhauled version of the original mission and add it to their collection.

Huge thanks to our friends at EA and BioWare for helping make this happen.

It has been a momentous year for No Man’s Sky in a number of ways. We’re so grateful to be able to continue this journey with you.

Don't forget to wishlist Light No Fire here!

Our journey continues.

No Man's Sky - timdog99
Hello Everyone!

Our last update saw players enjoying a nice chilled time, fishing in No Man's Sky. Our next update couldn't be more different! As we approach Halloween, we are embracing the spookier side of the No Man's Sky Universe, drawing upon threads first established way back in Atlas Rises, when ancient portals began to open and the boundaries between realities first began to crumble…

Today, we are announcing expedition sixteen: The Cursed - where players will fight to keep a grip on reality while haunted by visions and voices from another dimension. Full patch notes can be found here.

The Cursed takes place in a sort of twilight realm, straddling the boundary between one reality and the next.

Travellers will not have access to hyperdrive technology, meaning no warping between star systems. Instead, interstellar travel can only take place via the ancient portal network.

Haunting voices, leaking through from another dimension, will provide guidance, information, strange blueprints… and mystery. It is up to you to decide who these voices belong to, where they are coming from, and if they are to be trusted.

In regular No Man’s Sky play, Travellers must steel themselves against a variety of environmental hazards such as extreme temperatures, radioactivity, and toxic atmospheres. The Cursed, however, pits you against a single, more insidious threat: the weakening of the boundaries of reality. Your exosuit comes fitted with a specialised Anomaly Suppressor; maintain it to stay firmly in this reality.

Spectral anomalies - ghostly creatures drifting across the boundaries - will gather to watch Travellers moving through their domain. Most of the time, they are simply there to observe, but be warned: as your suit’s Anomaly Suppressor weakens, time will begin to behave in non-linear ways, and these anomalies may turn hostile.

Travellers will need to prepare a number of otherworldly concoctions to navigate through The Cursed. Sustain boundary strength with the Elixir of Glass, reveal the location of portals with the Elixir of Quicksilver, and prise open the gateways with the Elixir of Blood. For those that reach the end of the journey, its final trial will require a drink from the Elixir of Water - and the consequences thereafter.

The Cursed expedition begins today, and will run for approximately two weeks. Travel beyond the boundaries, and fortify your mind against spectral anomalies - or succumb to the call of the world of glass.

The Cursed Expedition Rewards

Boundary Anomaly, Portal Breach and Glyph Posters

Remember your journey across the boundaries with these decorative posters: warnings to all those who would venture into the tunnels of the portal network.

Anomaly Seal Base Part

During The Cursed, the spectral energy radiating from this ancient artifact protects nearby entities against catastrophic reality breaches.

In a more stable universe, the Anomaly Seal serves as a decorative souvenir from beyond the boundaries.

Ink-Stained Jetpack Trail

An exclusive jetpack customisation. A localised anomaly within the jetpack's core allows the spectral afterglow of the boundary horrors to leak across into this reality.

Boundary Horror Mandibles

An exclusive Exosuit Appearance Override. Transform your facade into that of a Boundary Horror, a fragment of what dwells beyond the tunnels of the portal network...

Bioluminescent Companion

The egg of a gelatinous and luminescent lifeform. This unusual companion creature is lit by a haunting pale glow.

Boundary Herald Starship

Retrieve this exclusive starship from the reality collapse, and slice through the skies in saucer-like style.

Development Update

The Cursed expedition is our sixth named update for 2024, following Omega, Orbital, Adrift, Worlds Part I, and Aquarius. It has been a busy year so far! It’s incredible to think that only a few weeks ago, fishing didn’t exist in No Man’s Sky.

We are continuing to build our universe, and have much more in store. Thank you for playing.

Full patch notes for The Cursed can be found here.

Don't forget to wishlist Light No Fire here!

Hello Everyone!

Today, the Aquarius Update is free to download for existing players and introduces something we have been tempted to add ever since we stood on the shores of No Man’s Sky’s planets and looked out across their watery expanses - fishing! Full patch notes are available here.

Players can now explore the universe to find their perfect waterside spot, hopping with fish - sit and relax alone with their thoughts, or with fellow Travellers looking out over alien vistas waiting for a bite.

Fishing

Fishing in No Man’s Sky is a uniquely relaxing experience, either alone with your thoughts or with the companionship of others. Grab a rod and your friends (optional!) and set out to explore the universe in the hunt for the perfect fishing spot.

The thrill of the catch lies in the fact that you never quite know what you’re going to pull up. The variety of aquatic life ranges vastly from common minnow-like fish to huge alien marine mammals. Catches vary greatly from planet-to-planet and dedicated anglers will have to travel far to find the rarest of fish.

Exo-Skiff

Venture into the ocean on your deployable Exo-Skiff. This customisable fishing platform floats over the roughest seas and has its own bespoke cold storage inventory, making it the perfect way to hunt for those fish that are only found in deep waters.

Explore to find rare catches

Travellers who wish to complete their fishing log will have to explore a huge range of different environments and water conditions, as well as crafting specialist bait to attract rare catches and elusive legendary fish…

And while you’re waiting patiently to catch a bite, why not dredge for messages in bottles from those that have passed this way before?

Automated Fish Traps

Research the Automated Trap blueprints and establish your own autonomous floating fish farm to gather in fish while you explore elsewhere.

Aquarius Expedition

The Aquarius expedition begins today, and will run for approximately six weeks. Go on a quest across the galaxy to catch fish, gather stories, and think about the one that got away… Players who complete the Aquarius expedition will earn a beautifully detailed set of deep-sea customisation parts, including a unique underwater jetpack.

New Cooking Recipes

Of course, with this new-found ability to farm the lakes, seas and oceans, you will want to develop your cooking skills, with all-new recipes and ingredient combinations out there to be discovered.

Fishing Records

The Wonders Catalogue now has a dedicated collection of fishing information, detailing the history of all your catches and their weight records, as well as information on how to find each species.

Deep-Sea Diving Suit

Hardened against the extreme conditions found beneath the waves, this diving suit is the perfect choice for both deep-water exploration and an afternoon's fishing.

Aquarius Poster Collection

Decorate the walls of your fishing shack with the Sea Chart, Bounty of the Sea and Gone Fishin' posters.

Lost Angler’s Rig

Complete the Aquarius Expedition to uncover the fishy tale of the Lost Angler and earn the use of their exclusive fishing equipment.

Tentacled Figurine

A synthetic polymer companion for your starship’s cockpit, fashioned in the likeness of a sea creature.

Aquarius Flight Pack

Hardened against the extreme conditions found beneath the waves, this jetpack replacement allows for smooth and stylish passage through the murky abyss.

Development Update

Our last update was “Worlds Part I” just a few weeks ago. It resulted in our biggest player numbers in over 5 years. Eight years in and we feel so lucky to have so many folks still care about this game we love. It gives our tiny team energy, making us want to pour more into the No Man’s Sky universe.

Something people really loved in the Worlds update was the new water technology - tons of players were posting videos of themselves just chilling at the water’s edge. One piece of fan art in particular stopped us in our tracks, of a player lazily fishing from their wing of their starship. This art, and others like it, was right at the heart of the inspiration behind the Aquarius update.

My favourite thing is to build a little base on the perfect shoreline, so I can cast my rod whenever the mood takes me. I’m excited for new players to join me!

Full patch notes for Aquarius are available here.

Our journey continues.
