Nether: The Untold Chapter - Juleman


Dear Community,

Here is another small update that includes huge performance improvements including some other things we addressed, let's jump into the patch notes:

 



GAMEPLAY
  • Loot interaction range has been increased from 80 to 100 due to community feedback.
  • Slightly optimized shadows for better performance. No major changes are made although you should have better performance.
  • Optimized the light system. Slight performance has been improved when using dynamic lightning.

  • Substantially increased player's global inventory size.
FIXES
  • Fixed a major bug related to the rendering system. This was a design flaw in the original engine causing things / objects that were far / out of render distance to not properly un render. Basically this was the major reason for FPS & performance issues in Nether and we expect players will notice HUGE FPS & performance improvements after this patch.
  • Fixed / improved how the character model reacts to barrels.
  • Fixed some more physics issues related to some world buildings.
  • Updated the French localization: Added missing translations and added taunts to the translations.

Patch will roll out any moment from now. We are still testing some last things so there is no current ETA on when exactly we will update. Keep an eye out on our social media channels and we'll make sure to let you know! In case you are in a server while we patch, servers will initiate a shutdown sequence and will notify all the players with a countdown that the server is going down.

We are rolling out small hotfix to fix some Patch 8.0 related issues. We have also made some smaller improvements.

 

Let's jump into the hotfix notes:

 
  • The first aid kit now grants 800 health instead of 400.
  • The hit marker will now only show when damage is actually (confirmed) to be done to an enemy.
  • Added a reward to the level 4 account reward. (When you reach level 4 you will receive some more global inventory slots)
  • Fixed an issue causing shots not to register due to a collision / hitbox bug on players.
  • Fixed a bug causing mission map icons to show the incorrect mission stage when logging in with a half-done mission.
  • Fixed several building physics issues.
 

Note: Patch notes might be changed if we need to fix or add something.

 

Hotfix is rolling out as we speak.

It's been a while since we last patched and we have been looking at the biggest issues players faced and what we thought was lacking in terms of content. We have worked on new missions, major fixes and some important quality of life improvements in general.

 

Now, let's jump into the patch notes:

 



GAMEPLAY
  • Greatly improved the melee hitbox system. We have reworked parts of the hitbox registration system entirely to fix the hitbox registration issues. There was great issues with some melees where it was very weird and glitchy to melee Nether creatures. It should be a lot easier and smoother now to melee Nether creatures.   • Improved the bullet tracer particles. We have done this for two main reasons: 1) To give players shooting a weapon better feedback where their bullets are going. 2) To give other players a better indication where they are getting shot from/where bullets are going in general.   • Decreased the amount of camera shake when scoping in with weapons that have a scope.
  • You can now sprint while reloading or changing your weapon. Before this was cancelled upon doing the action.
  • Increased the speed of the swapping to melee animation. This makes it feel a lot smoother and faster to switch to a melee. We are hoping this allows players to use melees more frequently when fighting Nether creatures. We have made a gif as an example: https://i.gyazo.com/3cb015d4c3de0a56ce0926c8354558c0.mp4
  • When using a melee your sprinting speed is increased. As the world is already quite big we want to enable more ways for players to travel around faster.
  • Decreased the sprint speed of the level 10 stamina skill from 25% to 10% as a combination of this with the melee speed increase improvement made this skill way too overpowered.
  • You can now level up to level 40. (Before it was 30.) From level 30 and up you'll gain even more points allowing to unlock the full skill tree.


     
  • You will now only lose 25% of your current XP when you die. This includes leveled skills and unused skill points. This means that your XP won't reset entirely anymore when you die but only a part of it.
  • Increased the global footstep sound volume. This was way too low before and footsteps were pretty much not audible.
  • Improved the readability of the skill descriptions tooltip.
  • Added your current level and level progress to the inventory UI screen.


     
  • Added a notification when you try to turn on a flashlight but don't have one in your inventory.
  • Also added a notification when you try to turn on a flashlight but you have dynamic lightning off, as this needs to be on in your settings for the flashlight effect to work.
  • The waypoints on the compass are made more visible.


     
  • Hovering icons in the map will now fade out close by icons to help with readability. We have made a gif as an example: https://i.gyazo.com/1b342740bcddf2343dc6c15441bfa7c5.mp4
FIXES
  • Fixed a bug causing your screen to get blurry after trying to revive. This was mostly happening when a player would reset their spawn.
  • Fixed a visual bug related to players having too long names where in the chat if a player's name was too long it would cut out. 
  • Fixed a bug that players were abusing where they could sprint with the inventory screen open.
  • Fixed some physics issues related to the church model where players could walk and shoot through some poles. Also fixed some other model issues related to the church.
  • Fixed an error related to the Ghul creature that could potentially cause players to crash.
  • Fixed a bug related to sprinting / using stamina inside the safe zone where it was still using stamina. It's not suppose to use any stamina when sprinting inside the safe zone.
 



ADDITIONS
  • New missions have been added. The new missions are longer, contain more steps and offer bigger rewards to players upon finishing the mission. We hope this gives more variety and purpose to the game for players.
IMPROVEMENTS
  • You can now have 3 missions active at a single time instead of one. This means you'll be able to do 3 different missions at once, if you'd like of course. We have also adapted the UI for this so that you can see the progress of each mission all in one UI.
    • You can abandon each mission separately. This means you can abandon one out of the three missions you'd have active.
    • Here's how the mission UI looks, in this example there is 2 missions active:


       
  • Added a missions tab screen where players can see information about the missions they have active. On this screen players have an overview of their missions, the tasks of that mission, the rewards, a description and also the button to abandon a mission. This way you'll have a better overview of your active missions and what to do.


     
  • Added new UI features for the mission system. If the mission(s) you have active are linked to a specific location (for example: "go here") there will be an icon shown on the map on the location where you have to go.


     
  • The location will also be pin pointed in the main UI just like a marker. Here is an example:

     

FIXES
  • Fixed an issue related to the mission system where sometimes a player wouldn't receive a reward upon finishing a mission.
  • Fixed various UI bugs related to the mission system. Also fixed some alignment issues and made some smaller tweaks to make the UI look better and feel smoother.
 


  • Major world optimizations have been made to provide better performance.
  • Lowered the spawn cooldown of Nether creatures. This means more Nether creatures will spawn. Players reported that the map felt quite empty sometimes due to the low amount of Nether creatures in the world. There will be more now.
  • The Lake Side Safe Zone can no longer be taken over by Nether creatures. This was done since it is the main safe zone and the safe zone where all the beginner players start and where most of the beginner missions start. This is so we can avoid beginner players from being confused or rushed too fast into a conflicted area in the game.
  • Added package NPCs to all the safe zones. Players can now receive a package from the NPC, the available package that you can receive from the NPC changes every 15 minutes. Retrieving a package from an NPC will set the NPC on cooldown for 2 minutes. Once you deliver the package, you can come back and ask for another one.
  • Fixed an issue related to the level settings causing some objects, mostly details, to be randomly invisible.
  • Added some more blocking walls in the north of the town area because players were able to fly outside of the playing area.

It's been a while and we've had some of these fixes laying around for quite some time now. We just wanted to release this patch to fix these issues. It's not a big one, but it's not a small one either.

 

Now, let's jump into the patch notes:

 



GAMEPLAY
  • Fixed the description of the Lopes 45-S. It was using the description of the MACH-9 before. (This is fixed in all languages)
  • Fixed an issue related to the Nether potion when spawning inside a safe zone. This should no longer happen and you should be able to play as a Crawler properly again.
  • Jumping and player movement has been refined and smoothened even more.
MISSIONS
  • Highered XP you get when finishing a mission.
  • Fixed some mission descriptions and titles. Fixed some spelling mistakes. Also re-wrote some of the descriptions to make it more clear what needs to happen for that particular mission.
  • Fixed the "Save the kids" mission.
  • Fixed some issues related to some missions.
  • Missions that require you to craft, find, deliver or consume an item will now display the item name for clarity.
 



FIXES & CHANGES
  • Gun parts now have "(Gun Part) " added in their description. This to make it easier to understand and more clear that this particular item is a gun part.
  • Gun parts now have the correct TPS model. This means when dropping a gun part on the ground, the model matches the actual gun part. This wasn't the case before and it would drop a different mesh on the ground.
  • Gun parts no longer "clip" into the ground being kind of invisible for the player. All dropped meshes have been fixed.
  • Fixed some errors and corruptions related to gun part meshes.
  • Fixed the sizes of some gun parts where some were extremely small unrealistic meshes.
  • Fixed the iron sight alignment of the KB-12 shotgun. It's now aligned properly with the hit marker / center of the screen.
REWORKS
  • Reworked the store icon of the SVD Frame.
  • Reworked the store icon of the Wooden Block.
  • Reworked the store icon of the Metal Pipe.
  • Reworked the store icon of the Pistol Frame.
  • Reworked the store icon of the Shotgun Frame.
  • Reworked the store icon of the Rifle Frame.
  • Reworked the store icon of the Silencer.
  • Reworked the store icon of the Burst Mechanism.
  • Reworked the store icon of the Auto Mechanism.
  • Reworked the store icon for the 2x Scope.
  • Reworked the store icon for the 4x Scope.
  • Reworked the store icon of the 9mm Barrel.
  • Reworked the store icon of the 12ga Barrel.
  • Reworked the store icon of the 556 Barrel.
  • Reworked the store icon of the 762 Barrel.
  • Reworked the store icon of the Magnum Barrel.
     
  • Reworked the store icon for the Food Rations.
  • Reworked the store icon for the Water Bottle.
  • Reworked the store icon for Canned Food.
  • Reworked the store icon for the Energy Bar. 
  • Reworked the store icon for the Snack Package.
  • Reworked the store icon for the Energy Drink.
     
  • Reworked the store icon for the Objective Crate.
  • Reworked the store icon for the Nether Potion.
  • Reworked the store icon for the Key.
 


  • Fixed some flying ammo boxes in the wastelands.
  • Fixed an issue related to the vault access in the HBO safe zone.
  • Increased the respawn timer of Nethers at the Lakeside safe zone.

Dear Community,

We are going to roll out a small patch to implement bug fixes and our new Mission system.

 



 
  • We added a new mission system, and a couple of missions to go with it. Missions will bring something new to do in the game, as well as aid the level-up of your characters. More missions will come soon...


     
  • Added a HUD icon for anti-nether devices needing repair.
  • Switching between weapons is now slightly faster (less animation time).
  • When switching to a melee weapon only: You can instantly cancel the switch animation to use the melee to block or attack, this should make gameplay feel smoother.
  • You can now switch between weapon slots while sprinting.
  • Added the weapon icon to the HUD on top of the ammo.
  • More fixing has been done regarding the melee hitbox tracing system for nethers, should be considerably better and more consistent.
  • Updated all languages.

Nether: The Untold Chapter - Boss


Dear Community,

 

Time for another update and this time a noticeable smaller one. Although this patch is not as big as we'd like patches to be this one was definitively needed to fix some issues but also for some other "behind-the-scenes" things that had to happen. For upcoming patch 6.0 we plan to bring various new content and for sure a bigger patch than this one.

 

With that said, let's jump into the patch notes:

 



GAMEPLAY
  • Fixed the interact menu for the safe zone generators.
  • Fixed a bug causing a Nether to one-hit-kill you after failing to take fall damage.
  • Fixed a bug causing Nether hit boxes to de-sync when being too close to a wall or object.
  • Melee swings can now hit multiple targets in one swing instead of just one target.
 



FIXES & CHANGES
  • The ammo store icons have been adjusted. They are now a lot brighter so they are easier to distinguish from each other.
  • Fixed the iron sight alignment for the TFC Special. The weapon now shoots where it aims and the sight is properly centered.
  • Fixed the iron sight alignment for the MACH-9. The weapon now shoots where it aims and the sight is properly centered.
  • Fixed the item description of the MACH-9. It was saying the incorrect amount of bullets. This is fixed in all languages.
REWORKS
  • Reworked the store icon of the Bone Shard Ammo. All the ammo icons are done now.
  • Reworked the store icon of the Med Kit.
  • Reworked the store icon of the Bandages.
  • Reworked the store icon of the Painkillers.
  • Reworked the store icon of the Doctors Bag.
 


  • Reaper blades can no longer be traded for a CRU at the Cull. You can now only craft a CRU at the gun smith just like any other craftable weapon.
  • The CRU crafting requirements have been nerfed. You now need 1 additional Reaper Blade in order to craft a CRU.
 


  • Removed all the flying objects on the bridges and streets in wastelands and painted grass there. This will increase the performance a lot.
  • Fixed the HTO safe zone was when it got taken over there was still safe zone and you could not shot.
  • There was a bug where spawns, areas and creature spawns were duplicated in the Wastelands, this is now fixed.
  • Added some loot spawn crates to Landsunk Residential.
  • Fixed the flying objects at the Tower Outpost.
  • Fixed a misplaced street object in Old Burnham where players were able to look through.
  • Fixed the entire of the Riverside Outside where a player had to jump to be able to enter the safe zone.

We're at the end of the week again and before we jump into the weekend we'd like to roll out a patch for Nether. We'd like to readdress that we are working very hard on particular issues that you guys have been reporting to us. This patch might not contain all the fixes we would have liked to release but at least it's a step in the right direction. We didn't want to have you guys wait too long for an update. We will continue to look into further reports and feedback from you all so keep it going!

 

Now, let's jump into the patch notes:

 



GAMEPLAY
  • Bullet tracers/hit registrations have been improved. Issues related to this have been reported a lot by the community and we will continue to monitor and improve this until it's perfect.
  • We have also further improved the melee hit boxes against Nethers.
  • Fixed a small bug where the crosshair would not display the correct spread in third-person.
  • Tweaked overall spread variables to help with bullet registration.
  • Increased NetCode max bandwidth for a smoother gameplay. 
  • New players will no longer be prompted to spawn in the world. They will now always spawn directly in the Lakeside safe zone to help them understand the game better and complete the tutorial.
  • Keys have been removed. Gold crates will now be findable without keys. However they are also more rare. Don't worry, the keys you have in your global inventories are still there but for now you can't do much with them other than to sell them. (if you want of course)
  • Fixed another bug related to the water appearing green sometimes.
  • Improved the player movement physics. This to improve the situations where players would randomly get stuck while walking up hills for example. It is now also a lot smoother to walk on this type of surfaces. (Here an example: https://i.gyazo.com/324fcd6f7f47abc099e656a966ab03a8.mp4)
  • Fixed a bug causing, while searching interactive crates or trying to, to bug out when walking too close to them.
UI
  • Improved the quality of some visual objects in the UI.
  • Fixed a UI bug that was happening when changing languages.
  • The pickup UI now shows quantity if applicable.
  • Added an icon to the map that indicates your last death location. This is to make it easier for players to see where they died in case they try to get back to their body.
  • Added a simple "ping" system. Players can use this to mark a certain spot or area while playing. This can be useful for yourself, but also when playing in a group. The whole group will see where you pinged. You can ping by pressing the scroll wheel button on your mouse.
MODELS
  • Added collision for the book case models. (all variants) (example of the model: https://prnt.sc/ntxfa4)
  • Added collision for the cabinet counter model. (example of the model: http://prntscr.com/ntxo36)
  • Fixed collision for one of the broken sky scraper buildings. Players were able to jump through some of the windows even though there were wooden planks blocking the window. (example of the model: http://prntscr.com/ntxr5d)
  • Fixed collision for the camp fire model. This old collision was around 20 times higher than the actual camp fire model. The new collision matches the size of the actual camp fire.
  • Fixed collision for the Church (back side area). There was an area where players could walk on top of an invisible ceiling.

  • The shovel (melee) can now be sold/bought in the safe zones.
ICON REWORKS
  • Reworked the store icon for the Mag DR-15. (weapon)
  • Reworked the store icon for the RAB-47. (weapon)
  • Reworked the store icon for the Gravedigger. (weapon)
  • Reworked the store icon for the Smith & Risley. (weapon)
  • Reworked the store icon for the Warren 50. (weapon)
  • Reworked the store icon for the Can Gun. (weapon)
  • Reworked the store icon for the KB-12. (weapon)
  • Reworked the store icon for the TFC Special. (weapon)
  • Reworked the store icon for the Heartburner. (weapon)
  • Reworked the store icon for the Cru Z3R-14. (weapon)
  • Reworked the store icon for the Pipe Sniper. (weapon)
  • Reworked the store icon for the SVD. (weapon)

FIXES & CHANGES
  • Fixed the Demon death despawn animation. It is no longer flying when it dies. Also improved the actual animation a bit.
 


  • Fixed a collision wall which was blocking the metro entrances Monroe at Bridgeport.
  • Moved a campfire which was blocking a watch tower in Litchfield.
  • Fixed a problem where the player was falling through concrete when going up the street next to the HTO safe zone.
  • Fixed a fence where a player could get stuck in the Trainyard Outpost safe zone.
  • Fixed the flying grass which was caused by a miscreated collision in the Litchfield area.
  • Lowered the respawn timer of crates to 2 minutes (from 8 minutes)
  • Lowered the chance to be a golden crate from 5% to 2%.
  • Replaced the big static smoke with a smaller animated one.
  • Added now low-end gun spawns everywhere in the world.

Patch will roll out any moment from now. We are still testing some last things so there is no current ETA on when exactly we will update. Keep an eye out on our social media channels and we'll make sure to let you know! In case you are inside a server while we patch, servers will initiate a shutdown sequence and will notify all the players with a countdown that the server is going down.

Nether: The Untold Chapter - Boss

A smaller patch this time. Before we jump into the patch notes we'd like to mention that the actual patch is rolling out tomorrow. We'll let you guys know trough our official channels when the patch is ready and when the servers will restart. This patch will include the global inventory update where we have merged them to be per official server region instead of per server! This means you are going to be able to have the same global inventory in separate official servers. More information about that and the merge in the patch notes below.

 

Now, let's jump into it.

 



GAMEPLAY
  • Fixed a bug preventing trading / crafting at certain Tribe locations.
  • Fixed a bug where players could bypass the inventory size limit by stacking items.
  • Fixed a bug related to Nethers taking over the safe zones. This wasn't working properly before.
  • Fixed a bug preventing some players with special characters / symbols in their names to join a server.
  • Added a new feature that allows players to save their log-out location when logging out from a safe zone. This only works in safe zones and players get to ask if they would like to use this when logging out. When logging back in, in the same server, you will be at the exact same place.
  • Added a new feature that allows players to report other players. This was a big demand from the community and something we are definitively going to use to monitor players and their behavior. See something suspicious? Just report the player!
  • Added a new feature that allows players to mute other players through the social tab. When muting a player you will no longer hear them through VOIP and you will no longer see chat messages from them.
  • Global inventories are now shared between official servers. This means you will now have the same global inventory between servers. It's still region based so there will be a different, separate global inventory in each region. We have taken the global inventories from players that have the biggest size, this way the GI that has the most items for a player, will be used. This process is also done per region.

    Note: It might have happened that we grabbed the global inventory that you didn't want. This is understandable. Don't worry. We have made backups of all the other global inventories and if you'd like to use an other one in this process just contact our support at http://support.fredaikis.com/
UI
  • Fixed a bug related to the account level-up notification. Sometimes it would not show the correct level you leveled up to.
  • Fixed a bug where your health would display the wrong value after reviving.
  • Fixed a bug related to the safe zone in Riverside. It no longer spams the status message.
  • Increased the size of the right-click menu in the socials screen.
  • Group notifications and updates will now show in the chat.
LANGUAGES
  • Fixed the 'block attack warning' text. Updated to: "You need the 'Blocking' skill to block attacks".
MODELS
 



FIXES & CHANGES
  • The GRIMM Reaper (melee) icon has been reworked and now fits the new style. It also now matches the actual mesh in game.
  • The Crow Bar (melee) icon has been reworked and now fits the new style. It also now matches the actual mesh in game.
  • The Baseball Bat (melee) icon has been reworked and now fits the new style. It also now matches the actual mesh in game.
  • The Battle Axe (melee) icon has been reworked and now fits the new style. It also now matches the actual mesh in game.
 


  • Fixed the extension in the HTO safe zone where the players were falling down. (through the floor)
  • Fixed a metro entrance where you walked against an invisible wall at Bridgeport.
  • Added more Nether spawns in the Wastelands.

Nether: The Untold Chapter - Boss

Note: This hotfix was already rolled out yesterday but not posted on Steam.

There were some small issues that came up after Patch 2.0. We are going to fix these right away in this hotfix.

 

Let's jump into some details:

 


  • Fixed a bug where it was not showing the correct amount of players in a server.
  • Fixed some objects in the HTO that didn't have collisions and player were falling through. (There are still some issues there which are getting fixed in the next update)
  • Fixed the tents and lantern at the HTO which had the wrong collisions enabled.
  • Fixed 2 places at the Trainyard Outpost where the player would get stuck and could only get out with resetting their spawn.
  • Fixed the aggro and spawn sound effects of the Arachnid.
 

Remember, if your game doesn't update right away, restart your Steam client as well.
