Unhappy NBA 2K19 players are complaining that unskippable ads have popped up via loading screens on the basketball sim across most platforms.

Whilst loading advertisments in the NBA 2K franchise aren't new, the sudden flood of irate messages across Reddit and social media (thanks, Nintendo Life) concerning 2K19 intimates either a bug or an upswing in the number of advertisements playing.

"Yeah, my game got to 100% and instead of letting me edit match ups (which you can normally do while the game loads) or letting me go straight to the game, I had to sit there and finish the ad," said one commenter. "Absolutely pathetic from 2k again."

Alfonso Ribeiro, the actor known for playing Carlton in the TV series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, has hit a major stumbling block in his legal action against Fortnite and Epic Games, and 2K Games and the NBA 2K series. He's been refused copyright of the Carlton dance.

The US Copyright Office made no bones about it.

"Upon review of the material deposited for registration, we must refuse registration [of the dance] because the work submitted for registration is a simple dance routine," it said in a letter uploaded by the Hollywood Reporter (dated 22nd January). "As such, it is not registrable as a choreographic work."

2K's customer support service is struggling to deal with the volume of complaints as NBA 2K19 players log a litany of issues, including lost in-game currency (VC), progression problems, and neverending games (thanks, Kotaku).

Others are reporting that the sports series' latest release also has issues with court conquerors and inexplicable MyCareer file deletions. At the time of writing, it appears the problems are widespread across most platforms.

Right now the issues seem mostly confined to MyCareer mode, but given this is usually where players invest their in-game currency, VC - typically accumulated by purchasing the currency with real-life money or offered as part of special edition bonuses - this means many players are losing a significant portion of their virtual funds.
