Mortal Kombat 11

Mortal Kombat fans have for years hoped for Neo from The Matrix and / or John Wick from the John Wick movies to pop up as playable characters in a Mortal Kombat game. It hasn't happened yet - and actor Keanu Reeves himself doesn't sound keen on the idea.

Answering fan questions in a video with Esquire to promote the upcoming release of The Matrix 4, Keanu addressed the burning question:

"If it were up to you, would you allow it to happen?"

Mortal Kombat 11 has sold more than 12m copies, Warner Bros. Games has announced.

The gory fighting game hit 8m copies sold in October.

To put the 12m sales figure into context, Mortal Kombat X, which came out in April 2015, was in April 2019 NetherRealm's best-selling game with almost 11m copies sold.

Mortal Kombat's latest live-action movie adaptation is mere days away from its 23rd April release, and, in preparation for its arrival, Warner Bros has shared its limb-flinging, martial-arts-hued opening seven minutes online.

This particular live-action incarnation of Mortal Kombat - directed by Simon McQuoid and written by Greg Russo - predominantly unfolds in the modern day, charting the adventures of washed-up MMA fighter Cole Young (an entirely new character to the Mortal Kombat universe, played by Lewis Tan), who gradually becomes embroiled with the series' familiar cast after encountering Outworld emperor, Shang Tsung (Chin Han).

Before getting to the meat of the story, however, Quaid and Russo set the scene with an opening sequence that whisks viewers back to Feudal Japan in order to establish the conflict between the clans of Hanzo and Bi-Han (who go on to become Scorpion and Sub-Zero, here played by Hiroyuki Sanada and Joe Taslim respectively).

A long-running secret within Mortal Kombat 11 has finally been solved.

A year ago, Mortal Kombat 11 players noticed a mysterious meteor coursing across the sky within the Towers of Time mode. Players realised it turned up at 10 minutes past the hour, and suspected some sort of input was required to trigger a reward. But nobody knew the combination - until this week.

Here's NetherRealm boss Ed Boon doing his Twitter tease thing earlier this week:

Remember the Mortal Kombat movie? The original one, from 1995? It's a guilty pleasure of mine. I loved the silly fights and silly dialogue and ropey sets, and I loved Christopher Lambert's silly performance as Raiden, the famous Thunder God.

Now, 25 years later, Lambert has reprised his role as Raiden for a Klassic MK Movie Skin pack for Mortal Kombat 11 - and it's fantastic.

Here we have Lambert's likeness as well as his voice, delivering new dialogue just for the game. His character model looks great, and developer NetherRealm has even added different colour lightning depending on which version of Raiden you're using (Dark Raiden included!).

Okay. Let's get this out of the way: the Mortal Kombat 11 Mileena gameplay video is not for the faint of heart. I mean, all the Mortal Kombat 11 gameplay videos are not for the faint of heart. But this one... well...

NetherRealm showcased the return of fan-favourite fighter Mileena for the first time. For the uninitiated, Mileena is the product of Shang Tsung's cloning experiments, a fusion of Tarkatan blood and Edenian physiology, making her a sort of Baraka crossed with Kitana character.

In Mortal Kombat 11, she uses her trademark sai to stab stab stab, her sharpened claws to claw claw claw, and her teeth to tear tear tear her enemies apart.

NetherRealm has shown off gameplay for upcoming DLC character Rain in Mortal Kombat 11 - and he looks great.

The video shows off Rain's watery moves, including how he's able to turn into water to avoid being hit. He can also summon a storm cloud that shoots purple lightning. Nice.

Rain's fatality is as gruesome as you'd expect (I didn't know you could create blades out of water!), and it ends in eye-popping fashion. This one, like all fatalities on Mortal Kombat 11, is not for the faint of heart.

A Mortal Kombat 11 dataminer has unearthed evidence that points to a 1995 movie cast voice pack.

As GameRevolution reports, a YouTube channel called IX uploaded a video containing what sounded very much like Mortal Kombat 11 intro voice work from the actors who played Raiden, Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade in the cult classic 1995 movie. That is, the voices of Christopher Lambert, Linden Ashby and Bridgette Wilson can be heard doing their take on existing Mortal Kombat 11 lines.

Adding legitimacy to this "leak", the video was blocked by publisher Warner Bros. on copyright grounds. But of course the internet noticed, and reddit has a copy.
