Monster Hunter: World

Monster Hunter: World has achieved an impressive 20m units shipped.

This figure includes shipments of Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition, Capcom said.

Capcom put the success of the game down to a few factors, including a series-first worldwide simultaneous launch in January 2018. It helped that Monster Hunter World is brilliant.

If you're fan of Monster Hunter, you'll already know the series has an absolute blinder of a soundtrack, and now Capcom has confirmed it's given paying punters a chance to enjoy some of its greatest tunes, as played by a live orchestra and streamed online, later this month.

The Monster Hunter Orchestra Concert has been an annual fixture in Capcom's calendar since 2014, with last year's show marking the first time the concert was held online. 2021's effort promises "a powerful combination of video visuals featuring beloved characters and monsters from the game, along with a full orchestra performance of tracks from the series" by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.

Hirofumi Kurita, who's been part of the show since its 2014 debut, returns as conductor, and Capcom says this year's music selection from across the Monster Hunter series will be augmented by tracks from this year's steller Monster Hunter Rise.

The Monster Hunter movie's controversial "Chi-knees" dialogue has been pulled from all versions of the film globally, Deadline reports.

The decision came as director Paul W. S. Anderson issued a public apology for the dialogue, which was described by some as racist.

Over the weekend, Eurogamer reported on how Capcom's Monster Hunter World was getting review-bombed on Steam as part of the backlash to the dialogue.

Paul W.S. Anderson's Monster Hunter movie is, somewhat unbelievably, out next week, and to celebrate its whatever-the-opposite-of highly-anticipated-is arrival, Capcom is shoving its presence into Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, with a special crossover event.

From 4pm PST next Thursday, 3rd December (that's midnight on 4th December in the UK), owners of Monster Hunter World's Iceborne expansion can access a special two-part single-player side story that casts players as Milla Jovovich's Monster Hunter movie character, Artemis. Complete with Milla Jovovich's likeness and everything.

Part one of the new side story, The New World, pits Artemis against a Black Diablos in the Wildspire Waste, granting the materials needed to craft the Artemis α+ armour set - which comes stuffed with a broad range of handy skills, including Earplugs, Health Boost, Stun Resistance, Great Luck, and Hasten Recovery.

It really shouldn't be hard not to screw up a Monster Hunter movie. After all, there aren't any fan-favourite characters to ruin, and there certainly isn't much of a story; all it really needs are big monsters, big weapons, lavish scenery, and, yes, big cats. So it's gratifying to see Paul W.S. Anderson's Monster Hunter movie finally being presented, in a new trailer for its Chinese release, as the kind of Monster Hunter movie fans of the series might actually want to watch.

Gone is the inexplicable emphasis on the US military seen in Sony Pictures' last Monster Hunter trailer, which largely seemed to suggest that everyone involved hadn't got even the faintest clue what Monster Hunter actually was, and in are a host of familiar elements that finally makes this cinematic spin on Capcom's long-running franchise feel like part of the same universe.

There are sweeping, fantastical landscapes that go beyond 'brown desert', there's a heaving menagerie of creatures that indicate Anderson did more research than a cursory glance at a Monster Hunter box cover, and we also get a brief tease of the Palico chef in his natural cooking habitat. There's even a welcome bit of humour, notably absent in the previous stony faced trailer, to go with all the prerequisite big weapons and action set-pieces.

Paul W.S. Anderson's Milla-Jovovich-starring Monster Hunter movie will, after a bit of release date tinkering, be heading to cinemas this December; and in news that might temporarily placate fans worried the adaptation's armed US soldiers and portal-hopping shenanigans were getting a bit off-brand, it's now been confirmed that Palicoes are in.

As reported by IGN, Anderson popped up in an online New York Comic Con panel this weekend to confirm that Palicoes - Monster Hunter World's cat-like fighting companions - have made the cut, telling fans, "Well, you couldn't make a Monster Hunter movie without having a Palico in it. So definitely we lean into the Palico".

Additionally, Meowscular Chef - Monster Hunter World's brawny Felyne canteen overseer, and, in the movie, sidekick to Ron Perlman's character Admiral - will be getting the big-screen treatment too. Anderson describes the Chef as a "fantastic character" who has a "rather flirtatious relationship" with Milla Jovovich's Captain Artemis.

Oh yeah, the Monster Hunter movie! It's "only in theatres" in December, apparently. We'll see about that! And we'll also see about this teaser trailer - the first for the film.

In the teaser Milla Jovovich and her unit go up against Diablos in a desert-like area. Jovovich and her unit seem in trouble - their army weapons are useless against the monstrous beast. We see a glimpse of the soldiers played by TI Harris, Meagan Good and Diego Boneta, but there's no sign of the Hunter, who's played by Ong-Bak star Tony Jaa.

This is just a teaser, but I'm getting Michael Bay Transformers vibes right now. Something about the soldiers and their guns in the desert fighting a giant thing that's hard to make out reminds me of the first act of the first Transformers movie.

Monster Hunter World's superb Iceborne expansion is poised to mark its first birthday in September, and Capcom is celebrating the occasion by offering a chance to revisit its three previous limited-time seasonal events - ideal for newcomers and anyone that didn't manage to hoover up all the related rewards first time around.

Starting on August 21st, Iceborne players have a second chance to celebrate Monster Hunter World's Holiday Joy Fest. By completing its various limited-time quests, hunters can unlock the likes of the Oolong armour set, Lucky Crimson Tiger Pendant, and Shishi-mai Palico gear.

There's also the Mad Scavenger Pickaxe (actually a Long Sword), the Duffel Penguin Mask, and a giant flappy scarf known as the Sealed Dragon Cloth. Briskness is required, however, as the event will only be sticking around for about a week, wrapping up on 3rd September.

When it's someone's birthday you're usually expected to get them a gift. Green Man Gaming is flipping that concept on its head, though, by bringing us some massive reductions on digital PC games as part of its 10th birthday sale.

Until 21st May, GMG will be adding 10 different featured deals each day of the week for 48 hours. Going by what's on offer now, there should be a good selection to browse through, including new releases and some classic favourites. I've picked out a few of today's featured deals below with some seriously good prices for Tomb Raider, Control and Hitman 2.

On top of that, a new franchise will be featured each day during the sale. These games will see more significant discounts offered for 48 hours as well. Right now, that includes entries in the Batman and Monster Hunter World series.

Monster Hunter: World

It's been almost two years since Monster Hunter World strode confidently onto Xbox One and PS4, refining and finessing Capcom's long-running franchise for a new generation. And to celebrate its 2nd anniversary (not to mention a staggering 15 million copies sold since launch), Monster Hunter World's Appreciation Fest is now underway on all platforms.

It's the second Appreciation Fest to be held in-game (the first, unsurprisingly, coincided with Monster Hunter World's one-year anniversary), but the latest celebration arrives in two parts. The Astera Appreciation Fest is open to all players, and sees a reprisal of last year's event, while the Seliana Grand Appreciation Fest is new, and exclusive to the superb Iceborne expansion.

The Astera Appreciation Fest features a suitably razzmatazz makeover for the Astera Gathering Hub, and adds event-exclusive challenges alongside a return for pretty much all previously released quests. That means you can happily farm monsters in a bid to craft everything from a Palico Mega Man outfit to the majestic Wiggler head armour.
