Arkham Horror: Mother's Embrace

Asmodee Digital's video game adaptation of the hugely popular Lovecraft-inspired Arkham Horror board game series will be coming to Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC on 23rd March.

Arkham Horror: Mother's Embrace, to give the adaptation it's official name, is a narrative-driven tactical RPG that sets players loose in the titular town of Arkham, circa 1926 - more specifically, in a spooky old mansion, where the murder of an astronomy professor has occurred.

What follows is a riff on the board game series' familiar Lovecraft-tinged exploratory action, requiring players to first assemble a crack team of investigators from 12 uniquely skilled characters - drawn from all across the Arkham Horror universe.

Asmodee Digital's video game adaptation of the hugely popular Lovecraft-inspired Arkham Horror board game series isn't too far away now - an Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC release is currently pencilled in for "Q1 2021" - and we've finally been given a first proper look at the narrative-driven tactical RPG in a newly release gameplay trailer.

Arkham Horror: Mother's Embrace, as it's known, was originally announced as an adaptation of Fantasy Flight Games' other Lovecraft-inspired board game series Mansions of Madness back in 2018, but it received its new name - and a new developer, Artefacts Studio - last year.

Despite the development switcheroo, Arkham Horror: Mother's Embrace is still very much along the lines of Asmodee's original announcement, setting players loose in a spooky old mansion circa 1926, where the heinous murder of an astronomy professor has occurred.

Asmodee Digital's video game adaptation of the hugely popular Lovecraft-inspired Mansions of Madness board game series has had something of a rejig, and will now launch on Xbox One, PS4, Switch, and PC under the banner of a different hugely popular Lovecraft-inspired board game series; say hello to Arkham Horror: Mother's Embrace.

Mansions of Madness: Mother's Embrace was originally announced back in 2018, with an anticipated release date of Q1 2019. Evidently, that did not come to pass, but it'll now arrive - with its new name and with a new developer, Artefacts Studio, at the helm - next year.

Despite the name change, Arkham Horror: Mother's Embrace still very much resembles the game that was announced back in 2018 on the surface, although, given the scant gameplay details revealed previously, it's impossible to tell how much has altered under the hood.

Arkham Horror: Mother's Embrace

Asmodee Digital has announced that it's releasing a video game adaptation of the hugely popular Lovecraft-inspired Mansions of Madness board game series, due to launch on PC and Mac in "Q1" next year.

Mansions of Madness: Mother's Embrace, as the video game adaptation will be known, is being created by developer Luckyhammers, and takes place within the walls of an unnamed mansion circa 1926. "Everything is not what it seems", says Asmodee, "as the investigators encounter traps, monsters, and other Lovecraftian horrors, and descend deeper into the depths of madness. Will your team solve the mystery and make it out alive?"

It's worth noting that Mother's Embrace is a fully fledged video game outing, not to be confused with the Mansions of Madness companion app currently available on Steam. This latter offering is essentially just the AI component required to run the second edition of the physical board game, replacing the human "Keeper" that controlled the original version.
