We’re excited to announce that Crimson Sea players will now be able to transfer their characters and homes to Ethereal Moon! Before confirming a transfer, be sure you pack up your land plots. To do this, open the mailbox on your plot, and under the Manage tab you’ll see a Pack Plot option.

Once your plot is packed, you can then begin the transfer process. After confirming to transfer your character, you’ll be automatically logged off the Crimson Sea server. Wait about 10 minutes, and your character should show up in the Ethereal Moon character list.

If you transferred over your house, you’ll see the Item Storage Management button in the top right corner of your UI. Open this to review the options for placing your house.

Don’t see your transferred character on Ethereal Moon?
If your Ethereal Moon character list is already full, then the character you just tried to transfer will be moved back to Crimson Sea. Free up a character slot on Ethereal Moon, and then attempt the transfer process again.

If you have an available character slot, and still haven’t seen your transferred character after an hour, reach out to our support team at http://mailto:contact@citadelstudios.net or through an in-game help report.

Greetings Celadorians,

The Fall 2020 Arena Season is nearly upon us! Beginning on Friday, October 16th, players will once again be able to compete for the highest leaderboard rankings and prizes for 1v1s, 2v2s, and 3v3s. This season, we’ve made some notable improvements to Arenas, including new rewards, a new leaderboard UI, PvP tweaks, and adjustments to the matchmaking system. For a breakdown of winners for the Summer 2020 Arena Season, check out this news post.

New Arena Rewards
This Arena season will feature two unique rewards. Players who earn the 1st place spot in any of the ranked brackets will earn a new Obsidian War Mount.

Players who earn a top 10 position in any of the ranked brackets will earn a new Champions Statuette.

New Leaderboard UI
At the conclusion of each new Arena season, players will be able to visit the Arena Master to see their rankings. This new UI will feature your complete match history from the previous season, including your personal ranked and unranked matches and ELO ranking for other players in each bracket.

Matchmaking Improvements
We’ve made some improvements to the matchmaking system in order to more accurately match participants with opponents that are close to their ELO ranking. This will allow players to compete with opponents of similar skill sets and enable players to climb the rankings while facing some challenging competition.

These improvements will cause players to possibly be matched with the same opponent multiple games in a row, but as those matches progress and the ELO rankings diverge both players will be matched with new opponents of similar skill.

PvP Enhancements
We have made several tweaks to PvP, and we’re excited to see how these changes affect the dynamics of Arena battles. These changes include:

- Sorcery damage no longer interrupts spell casting.
- Mage Armor prestige ability now casts instantly.
- Added “Reveal” as a sixth circle spell to reveal all objects within a radius of the caster.
- - - 6th circle spell, requires Lemon Grass and Moss to cast.
- - - Added to the inscription table, requires 1 ancient scroll, 2 Lemon Grass, and 2 Moss to craft.
- - - Requires “Line of Sight” to successfully reveal players/objects.
- - - Rules for revealing hidden players*:
- - - - - Will reveal any player who the caster is in an active conflict with.
- - - - - Will reveal any player that is a criminal.

*If the caster is flagged to not criminal protect, will reveal all players. Revealing a player that is A) not in conflict or B) not is currently a criminal will cause the caster to gain criminal status upon revealing an innocent player.

A Note on Win Trading
We understand how competitive our players can get, and enjoy offering Arenas as a structured offering to show off your PvP skills. To keep the Arena system fair and balanced for all, we have implemented systems that will alert our GM team of any “win trading” that occurs during ranked Arena matches.

Players that win trade will have their accounts suspended for 72 hours, and their ELO rankings wiped for the current season, with no eligibility for rewards. Please keep your competitive matches fair on both sides, we’ll be monitoring all Arena activity closely, and taking action as needed.

The Best of the Best
We’re incredibly excited to kick off the Fall 2020 Arena Season on Friday! Get ready to hone your PvP skills and fight for the top tier rewards in each competitive Arena bracket. If you competed in the Summer 2020 Arena Season, be sure to visit the Arena Master to see your rankings in the new Leaderboard UI. Data for the Summer 2020 Arena Season will be available until the close of the Fall 2020 Arena Season in December 2020.

Greetings Celadorians,

Season 6: Toil and Trouble arrives on October 12th! This upcoming season will take place in the West Valusia region of Southern Rim and will feature haunted cauldrons that players must investigate. In addition, we’re excited to announce that this season will run for 60 days. We’ve had a lot of player feedback about the duration of seasons, and believe that everyone will benefit with some extra time to earn the new PVE and PVP rewards.

New Dynamic Encounters
With the arrival of autumn New Celador is seeing the emergence of a secretive coven of witches toiling away in West Valusia. Should adventures stumble upon any unattended cauldrons they are encouraged to investigate them. However, be wary for their owners do not take lightly to meddlers and are sure to be quite hostile to anyone snooping around.

Spooky Cauldrons

Interacting with a cauldron has a chance to cause:

One of two (Covener and Coveness) witches to spawn.

A unique potion to be placed in your backpack:
  • Unstable Concoction - Target a location to throw the potion and cause 50 damage to all enemies in a 3 yard radius.
  • Coven Treats - Target a location to throw the potion and cause treats to appear in a 3 yard radius. (Beware, treats can be picked up by anyone.)

This Season’s Chaos Zone will be located in The Brooks.

New Monthly Rewards
This Season's reward will feature two skeletal horse mounts, each featuring a distinctive smoky glow to their eyes and hooves. Enjoy the spirit of the season by riding down your foes atop a truly horrifying steed.

For the PVE reward, players can earn the Ivory Skeletal Steed.

For the PVP reward, players can earn the Ebony Skeletal Steed.

Greetings Celadorians,

In this development blog, we’ll be focusing on the latest updates from our Design and World Building leads. For world building, we’ve been hard at work shaping the treacherous and rocky terrain of the Outlands, and will be diving the depths of the Necrothium mines. For design, we’ll be exploring more details about Heirlooms, and how these rare items will enable players to achieve heroic levels of skill.

World Building: Necrothium in the Hills

Long ago, miners of Celador were attracted to the Outlands with the promise of rich Cobalt veins that could be mined, and smithed into powerful armor and weapons. As they dug deeper and deeper, they stumbled onto a strange, new material. A massive network of glowing blue, iridescent, crystalline material that could potentially be malleable enough to craft into powerful gear. The miners quickly saw the potential of this new material, and there was a new rush to push deeper into the Outlands. With fervor they tore into caves to uncover more of the material. Once the terrifying potential of the material made itself known, the new mineral was given the name “Necrothium”.

One of our goals for the Outlands is to offer vibrant environmental storytelling as you adventure through this new landmass. From the outset, we’ve made sure every location in the Outlands is significant to the history of it. Last post, we looked at the general biome of the Outlands. A vast, arid, wasteland full of long forgotten evils. From here on out, we’ll be diving into some of the specific points of interest.

Shown here is a quick glance at one the long abandoned Necrothium mines. As the miners would dig deeper and deeper, the Necrothium would often seem to burst from the rock when they dug close enough. Some suspected it had to do with the strange air emanating from it and building pressure over time. The more superstitious miners felt as if the Necrothium was calling to them. Begging to be mined.

We’ll have much more to show in the weeks leading up to PR11. This is just the beginning of what awaits for players in the Outlands.

Game Design: Heirloom Items Overview

With the release of the Outlands, players will have access to unique quest lines and encounters which will allow them to acquire Heirlooms. These items will allow players to increase their power in specific skills. Each Heirloom will have a designated skill that can be gained, and depending on the skill, players will have access to new abilities, spells, craftables, or increased combat effectiveness.

Below you can find a list of skills which we plan to have Heirloom items for. Please note: This list is not finalized, and may change as development progresses.

Heirloom Skills
Combat
  • Healing
  • Martial Prowess
  • Magery
Crafting
  • Blacksmithing
  • Carpentry
  • Fabrication
Gathering
  • Mining
  • Lumberjacking
  • Fishing
Misc.
  • Taming
  • Barding

Each player will only be able to have one Heirloom equipped at a given time, so choosing which skill you wish to boost will allow you to tune your character to suit your playstyle.

Heirloom Properties and Durability
Heirloom items will require the player to invest a good deal of time and effort into leveling them up to their maximum skill, and these items will be cursed. Cursed items still take durability loss when used but will not drop as loot when/if a player is killed.

Each Heirloom will also have properties that increase their potency as they are leveled. Heirlooms will only provide skill bonuses to players at 5 skill level increments. For example, bonuses will be awarded when an Heirloom skill level reaches 5, 10, 15, and 20.

As the Heirloom reaches each of these skill point tiers, it will also have its properties adjusted and its durability reset. Once an heirloom reaches level 20, no further bonuses will be applied and all durability loss will be permanent. This progression system will allow players to utilize Heirlooms as they level them without fear of losing the item due to durability.

Heirloom Leveling and Restrictions
Heirloom skill bonuses can be utilized by a player at any level skill. For example, if a player has 60 Martial Prowess and equips an Heirloom that provides a 15 point bonus to Martial Prowess, then they will have an effective skill level of 75. However, Heirloom items can only gain skill if the wielder is a Grandmaster in the skill that the Heirloom is made for.

Additionally, Heirlooms utilize our existing skill gain system and will have their gains governed by our anti-macro and difficulty based formulas. In a nutshell, you will have to fight progressively stronger enemies or craft higher quality items to get your Heirlooms to level 20.

Looking Toward the Future
We are looking forward to the possibilities that Heirlooms will open up for players. The ability to specialize in a specific skill should not only allow players to customize their playstyle to their needs but also allow for greater flexibility in both PVE and PVP builds. Additionally, Heirlooms provide us with a means to incorporate new craftables, abilities, and enemies that challenge players beyond the Grandmaster level.

What’s Next for Outlands
The Outlands is shaping up to be one of the most immersive environments that our team has made. Not just in its visual appeal, but also how players will discover and engage with its history and secrets. Moving ahead, we’ll continue to refine the points of interest and lore that we’re developing for Outlands. Additionally, our game design team will soon be diving into the lost arts of necromancy and unveil the dark power that has been lurking in Outlands all along.

The Outlands is currently scheduled for release in November 2020. Stay tuned for future development updates in the weeks ahead, and keep an eye on the Legends of Aria Development Board to stay connected with our progress.

Greetings Celadorians!

We are excited to announce the conclusion of the Summer 2020 Arena season on October 9th, 2020. We saw a lot of players participating this season and our team monitored the arena matches closely to help us to focus in on balance issues between different player builds. This blog will focus on the rewards we have planned for the first arena season and the direction we will be taking for the Fall 2020 Season. But first, we have some stats to share for Summer 2020.

Summer 2020 Arena Stats
We’ve seen over 700 ranked arena matches played. Below are the current highest ranking players. This is subject to change, as we still have 3 weeks left to go in the Summer 2020 season.

Highest 1v1 Ranking:
  • BurntToast [ Ethereal Moon ]
  • ChusterLoL [ Crimson Sea ]
Highest 2v2 Ranking:
  • WizardBoys24 [ Ethereal Moon ]
  • ChusterLoL [ Crimson Sea ]
Highest 3v3 Ranking:
  • teteu1980 [ Ethereal Moon ]
  • Alo [ Crimson Sea ]

Additionally, you can find an infographic below that shows the number of matches played on each server and how many players fell into each ELO bracket (by 100s).

Rewards for Summer 2020 Season
What is the point of besting your opponents in the arena if you cannot show off your prowess everywhere you go? For those players that are ranked in 1st in each of the arena brackets (ie. 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3) a unique Crimson Champions Warhorse mount will be awarded to showcase your rank.

In addition to the mounts, each player that places in the top 10 for each bracket will receive a champions statuette which will feature their name, ELO rating, and placement for the 2020 Summer Arena season. These can be prominently featured in player homes.

Reflecting on the Summer 2020 Season
We’re excited that the first season of arenas was so successful and well received by our playerbase. Not only from those that participated in the arena matches but also to the numerous players who showed up to watch either in-person or via Twitch.

The observations we made and data we gathered from this season is being used to drive much of the changes that will be introduced in the second season, including:

  • Mage survivability
  • Improved visibility for player rankings
  • Scheduling future arena seasons

One of the big discussions that came out of this season was the need for mages to have their toolkit completely revisited and to ensure they have the spells and abilities they need to be viable in next season. This will be accomplished with Point Release 11 and will seek to address mobility and survivability issues that mages currently suffer from.

Another issue we want to resolve with the next season is to provide players with more tools for viewing and comparing their arena ratings with other players. The next season will feature a “Leaderboard” style interface that will allow players to quickly see their rankings compared to their peers and also showcase those players who have climbed to the top of the pile.

Lastly, we do realize this season lasted fairly long. Each season moving forward will be quarterly, this allows all players enough time to compete even if they aren’t able to be on during each arena session. With that in mind we want to announce the end of the 2020 Summer Season on October 9th, 2020 and the beginning of the 2020 Fall Season on October 16th, 2020 and ending December 18th, 2020.

We’ll see you in the arena!

Greetings Celadorians,

Season 5: The Raging Undergrowth arrives on September 10th! This upcoming season will take place in the Black Forest and will feature new dynamic encounters where players are tasked with culling the Tree Lord population. Here’s what’s coming in this update:

New Dynamic Encounters
Tree Lord Saplings have begun to spring up all around the Black Forest. The Mages Order of Valus have raised the alarm that if left unchecked, these saplings will mature into full grown Tree Lords and cause a population boom that would threaten the land and livelihoods of all Celadorians who rely on the forest. The most dangerous of areas will be Nosca Grove, which is this month's Chaos Zone.

Lucky these saplings can be easily dispatched with the use of a torch. The Mage Order assures all Celadorians that the process is very humane and that those who engage in this service shouldn’t need to worry about the Tree Lords retaliating… at all.

New Monthly Rewards
Complete a variety of PVP and PVE challenges in the Black Forest this month to earn an exclusive Tribal Mask. Additionally, players will be rewarded with precise maps for the Misha’s Rest and Medeina’s Rest encounters as well as rare potions that will provide a boon to both tamers and pack rats.

What Are Seasons?
New to Legends of Aria? Seasons deliver fresh monthly content and rewards that can be accessed by opening the sundial icon on the menu bar. By completing PVE and PVP challenges, you can earn up to three tiers of PVE and PVP rewards with each new monthly Season.

Overall, Seasons are designed to reward players for participating in all aspects of the game regardless of their chosen play style. It also allows our team to test new game mechanics and provide consistent content to our players. We’re excited to continue sharing these new experiences every month, and hope you enjoy Season 5, available on September 10th!

Greetings Adventurers,

Development is in progress for Legends of Aria’s next major update, Point Release 11! In this blog, we’ll be covering our goals for this release, with future installments detailing development updates as they unfold. Here’s what we’re focusing on for PR11:

  • Releasing the final official landmass in Celador, the Outlands
  • New Necromancy skills and abilities
  • New Heirloom skill items

Overall, our aim with this release is to offer more depth, customization and an improved gameplay experience for our players to engage with.

World Building: The Outlands

Long ago, the traveling miners of Celador discovered a strange glowing material deep within the mines of The Outlands. A mining accident in the shafts cut off the miners from the outside, and they were presumed dead by the townsfolk. Weeks later the miners emerged from the wreckage, bearing pieces of the mysterious ore which possessed powerful healing properties that sustained the miners throughout their ordeal. A rush to harvest the material commenced, but the power of the ore was greater than any could have known...

The gates to the Outlands have remained closed ever since. In this harsh environment, players will finally learn what has been hidden away for so long.

In the Outlands, you’ll be exploring an arid land tainted by a strange power, and scarred by those who would attempt to harness it. In this treacherous, rocky desert, your survival skills will be pushed to their limits as you uncover a long forgotten power. Whether you’ll be able to control that power is up to you.

Game Design: New Abilities, Playstyles, and More

Pet Abilities
While we have a large selection of pets for players to choose from, there is a lack of diversity in how these pets enable players to engage in PVE and PVP content. In the Outlands, we are introducing a new Pet Ability system to Legends of Aria.

Each pet will have new active or passive abilities offering different pet types unique roles in combat . Our goal is to reward players for using the right pet in the right conditions, while also allowing for further experimentation with pet mechanics and play style combinations.

As always, this will be paired with a review of pet damage output and taming difficulty in response to feedback and balance concerns.

Necromancy
The Outlands will bring a new set of skills that allow players to practice the lost arts of Necromancy. Necromancers will be required to walk a fine line between life and death with their health pool being their primary resource for using abilities summoning undead minions.

Heirloom Items
Heirloom items grow with their use, eventually bestowing knowledge and expertise and allowing players to reach fabled and heroic levels of skill. When wielding an Heirloom and engaging in a skill at the Grandmaster level, the Heirloom item will begin to gain skill points up to 20, adding to the players total skill level beyond the traditional 600 point cap.

Magery Revamp
For the Outlands, we’ll be releasing a long anticipated update to the allotment of spells for the Magery skill. This will involve a comprehensive review of all magery spells, balance tweaks and the addition of much needed spells.

Stay Tuned for More

We’re incredibly excited to build off of the success and learnings that we gained from The Frozen Tundra to deliver more immersive environments and experiences in the Outlands. Plus, with all of the new character progression being designed, players will be able to experience Aria in more engaging and rewarding ways.

The Outlands is currently scheduled for release in November 2020. Stay tuned for future development updates in the weeks ahead, and keep an eye on the Legends of Aria Development Board to stay connected with our progress.
