Knock on the Coffin Lid - Kenrald
Knock, knock, travelers!

How was your week? We’ve been busy - this week, we managed to release not one, but two hotfixes, squashing a bunch of bugs along the way. Bug fixing can be exhausting, of course, but we’re keeping our spirits up and pressing on no matter what!

That said, as always, we’ve gathered some of the most important and interesting news, and we’re excited to share it with you in this dev-diary. We hope you’ll find it interesting!

Let’s go!

Console Release Is Just Around The Corner…

On Monday, we officially announced that KOTCL is coming to consoles! We’ve been working really, really hard - polishing the game, talking with managers - and finally, we’ve reached an agreement.

Knock on the Coffin Lid: Complete Edition will be launching on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S this May!

If you happened to miss it - don’t miss it - the Complete Edition will include both the main game and the Nightmares of Millenis expansion.

[h5]Be sure to add KOTCL to your wishlist: PS Store so you don’t miss the release date—or just to show us your support![/h5]

Steam Deck Is Rolling In Fast!

As you may already know, we’re actively preparing Knock on the Coffin Lid for full Steam Deck support. You can already play it, of course, but there’s still a good chance of running into bugs, glitches, unfinished features, and other pesky dwellers of the land known as “In Development.”

But if you’re still eager to try the game on Steam Deck, you could be a huge help to us—and we’d be incredibly grateful to you. We’re collecting all feedback and bug reports from every possible source, however, feedback about how the game runs on Steam Deck is something we’re desperately lacking. If you spot any bugs or run into stability issues, please make sure to let us know!

And don’t forget about the button in the pause menu—it sends not only your bug description, but also your current save, game logs, and other files we need.

The Village falls asleep...

Torchlight casts crimson hues on hateful faces, and the air hangs heavy with hatred and disgust. Loud pounding on wooden doors and harsh shouts tear through the silence, riling up the crowd. No one will sleep peacefully tonight...

A WIP artwork of a small village somewhere deep in the heart of Midian, where enraged villagers have begun a bloody hunt. Share your theories—what could have made them so furious?

How About Some Chit-Chat?

Hello everyone, it’s Andrew aka Innrey here as always.

At the end of every week, we always think, “Next week will be easier for sure, after everything we’ve done!” But in reality, there’s always more to work on—there are bugs to be fixed here, updates to be done there, an interface to be revamped somewhere else...This past week, we released two more hotfixes, but there’s still plenty of work ahead.
Not that we’re complaining, of course—after all, we’re working on something we love, to bring you a game that’ll be not just fun, but enjoyable to play even many years away from now. For that, any amount of effort is worth it.

As for what’s going on inside the team—we’ve almost fully recovered from the two-week release sprint and are settling back into our usual workflow. Right now, we’re mainly focused on bug fixing, prepping full Steam Deck support, and getting ready for the console launch—but we’re also just starting to quietly work on our next game!

And lastly, I want to ask you to try out playing KOTCL on Steam Deck—if you have one, of course. We’re getting a lot of bug reports from our current players (remember, Steam Deck support isn’t official yet), and your feedback and bug reports are absolutely vital for us.

To everyone who’s already testing the game on that platform and reporting bugs—a big, huge thank you! You’re truly amazing, and your help means a lot in making the game better.
Stay safe, and see you in the next dev diary!

Thanks for playing! Join us on social media:

Knock, knock, travelers!

This week, we managed to recover from the chaos of the release week. Once we were back on our feet, we returned to our usual workload. A short rest by the campfire is good even for seasoned warriors, and for us, it allowed a cool-headed dive into the bug-fixing sea. And of bugs there seems to be noticeably fewer, it seems to us.

Share your thoughts - have the hotfixes reduced the number of bugs?

In this diary log, we’ll share some news on our plans, as well as some interesting and even funny situations!

Let’s go!

Community Survey!

A few days ago, we launched a community survey on our Discord server to gather your feedback on controller support, which we added along with the DLC. If you play KOTCL with a controller, please take a moment to fill out this short survey - so that we can see your thoughts about the results of our work.

Your input is of great help to us!

https://forms.gle/NRrxFs3RUcpAxXyg7

He Did WHAT!?

Just imagine:

You’re a seasoned warrior who has set out on your greatest journey across the Crimson Steppes - lands inhabited by orcs, goblins, giant worms, and who knows what else. As you near the lair of what rumors claim to be the most fearsome and powerful orc in the area, you brace yourself for a long and very dangerous combat…

Only to find a frail old man with a broom dancing over the lifeless body of what used to be a mighty orcish warrior! What in the name of the entire kingdom just happened here? Drop your theories in the comments!

A Saving Mishap...

Oops! Looks like we got carried away a little - while trying to save this poor guy from giant mosquitoes, we may have... sliced him up instead? That said, he actually seems to be enjoying his new look - after all, he now has fewer places for mosquitoes to bite!
We think he'd fit right in with the universe of Rayman Legends! At least there aren’t any giant, bloodsucking mosquitoes there, which sounds like a win for him.

How About Some Chit-Chat?

[h5]Hey everyone! This is Andrew aka Inner again![/h5]

We’ve finally hit that rhythm where things aren’t on fire—just quietly smoldering. And that already is a win. We've been tackling bugs, digging through your feedback (thank you for sending it in!), and we’ve even found a few spare moments to start talking about…our next game. In whispers for now. But yes, the talks have begun!

In the first week after release, we rolled out 5 hotfixes. And we’re not done yet - a bigger patch is coming soon, packed with lots of small fixes and maybe even a few changes. But no promises just yet - we know too well how that can go.

What’s next? Oh, we've got no shortage of ideas. We want our next game to be even better. Or at least not worse than Knock on the Coffin Lid.

I’ve dropped a few hints in the video-diary. We’re leaning toward one idea in particular… I’m not saying more for now. It’s too early.

What I can do is ask you:

What do you imagine our next game will be like?

What hooked you the most in KOTCL? What would you like to see preserved, expanded, or reimagined?

Genre restrictions? Forget ‘em. Just tell it like it is. I do read and listen. It means the world to us.

And now, about controllers.

As you know, we’ve added gamepad support - and we tried to make it feel smooth and natural.

But, of course, bugs came crawling out. We’re fixing them on the fly - with our hands and feet, and occasionally holding the tears back.

If you’re playing with a gamepad, we’d really love your feedback. What's inconvenient? What’s confusing? What could be better? Or just tell us how it feels overall.

That’s it for now. See you next Friday - in the diary, or as always, in the comments.

Thanks for being with us. You’re unbelievably amazing.

Knock-knock, travelers!

It’s already been a week since the release of the “Nightmares of Millenis” DLC. For us, it’s been quite the rollercoaster—full of adventures and overcoming challenges. All for one goal: to make the game as good as we possibly can!

The battle against bugs isn’t over yet, but after a short breather, we’ve gathered the latest news and all the fun stuff we want to share in this dev diary.

Let’s go!

Treacherous Bug Attack—All Hands on Deck!

As expected, after the release our community discovered a whole horde of treacherous bugs that prevented players from exploring the lands of Midian. While we’ve dealt with the major threats—that is, the nastiest and most critical bugs —many sneaky, hidden errors still lurk in the shadows. That’s why we’re calling on your help. Together, we’ll fend off this attack!

[h5]How can you help?[/h5]
If you’ve encountered a bug and are wondering: “What’s the best way to let the developers know?”—the best method is to submit a bug report using the in-game feature. Press “Esc” to open the pause menu, then click the bottom-most button. Choose the bug type, its severity, write a description, and hit “Send”!

That way, we’ll get the necessary files and can fix the bug much faster.

[h5]If for some reason you can’t send a bug report through the pause or main menu — follow these steps:[/h5]

Send the following files to this email along with a description of your issue: 4knockbugs@gmail.com From the folder C:\Users\(pc_name)\AppData\LocalLow\RedBoon\Knock\Save0 - CurrentGame & GlobalData From the folder C:\Users\(pc_name)\AppData\LocalLow\RedBoon\Knock - Player.log If your save is in slot 1, look in the save0 folder. For slot 2 or 3, check save1 and save2 respectively.

Lab Experiments!

We’re introducing the latest development from our artists' lab! We've been testing different formulas for enhancing the reward screen, and it looks like we’ve found a promising option! We used up some precious ingredients in the process, but we think the result was worth it.

Share your thoughts!

Share Your Opinion on the DLC!

Share your impressions of the “Nightmares of Millenis”—we’re actively collecting our players’ (your!) feedback. We’ll be considering and discussing suggestions for improving the game. Join us on Discord where we’re always online and ready to chat!

While we can’t promise to implement every idea we receive, your feedback can point out problems hidden from us but bothersome for you—or highlight things that you enjoyed and want more of!

[h5]We’re looking forward to your comments![/h5]

How About Some Chit-Chat?

[h5]Hey everyone, as always, Andrew aka Innrey is here![/h5]

It’s been a week since the release of our first DLC. During the first few days, we were fully focused on fixing bugs, softlocks, and other issues. We tried to push hotfixes as often as possible, and once the game reached a more stable state, we could finally catch our breath and move into a more measured workflow.

We received a ton of supportive messages, bug reports, and helpful feedback—thank you all so much for that! But along with that, we also got a lot of not-so-pleasant questions on different topics, which we’ve come to realize boil down to one main issue: a lack of communication with players during the early stages of the DLC.

[h5]What did you encounter?[/h5]
Thanks to you, we’ve gathered a lot of feedback and are now structurizing it into blocks, since many questions are recurring. We’ll be implementing changes gradually—all while continuing our daily bug-fixing efforts.

One of the trickier challenges turned out to be that the way to “gain access to the Tarot cards” wasn’t obvious to players. This partly happened because some players received the DLC as a gift. But since we don’t have a way to distribute gifts on Steam, we had to take a more technical route—which turned out to be bumpy and full of bugs. We’re working through those now. A couple of days ago, we discussed everything internally and are currently testing a few changes we’d like to implement based on your feedback and suggestions.

Once again, thank you for your support—we understand the DLC launch wasn’t perfect, and many players encountered problems. For us, Nightmares of Millenis became a real nightmare—proving yet again that a ship sails in as it’s named—good or bad. But your messages saying you enjoyed the DLC despite the obstacles, and were intrigued by the stories we told—really keep us going.
Ah, I nearly forgot to mention: we’re planning to release the console port at the end of May. For that, we’ll definitely take all our mistakes with Steam into account.

Thank you for your patience!

[h5]See you next week![/h5]
