Killing Floor 2 - Molly
Killing Floor 2: State Of The Game 2022

Has it already been another year? I suppose time flies when you’re having fun and while the last year certainly has not been without challenges, the team at Tripwire and Saber Interactive have had a blast bringing the community another full slate of content throughout 2022. I want to thank the development team and our external partners for their blood, sweat, and toil that’s part of everything we deliver to our fans big and small. The amazing commitment and support the community has shown for Killing Floor 2 in its 7th full year of post-launch support since early access. The community is ultimately the engine that drives us forward with everything we do.

So before we cover the path ahead, it’s first important to look back at everything we added to the game in the past year.

What Lies Ahead
With the ongoing success of the past year, I’m delighted to announce Killing Floor 2 will continue to be supported for another full year with our partners at Saber Interactive for it to extend into its 8th Year of Post-Release updates. Over the last several months, the team has sat together to see all that we would like to accomplish and we’re excited to share a high-level overview of what we have in store for 2023.

The main beats will be three major updates throughout Summer, Halloween, and Christmas. The first two updates of the year will be packed with new weapons, maps, weeklies, cosmetics, customization, and quality of life updates you’ve come to expect. For Christmas, we have something a bit different in mind. Instead of the usual new content and seasonal focus, we’ll be looking to dedicate that entire update towards Quality of Life improvements, balance tunes, and fixes. As an ever-changing game with new content regularly added, we don’t always get an opportunity to take a look back and address every request you want to be improved or tweaked for what came before. It's our hope this QOL-focused update will give us the space to tackle some of the more difficult challenges and aspects we’ve had to raincheck over the years.

We love hearing from you about what we should focus on the most and we have another State of the Game community survey prepared that would help the team regarding your thoughts about the game.

State of the Game Survey

Additional Weapons
- New weapons are at the core of what we love in Killing Floor 2 and there, of course, will be more in store in both new weapon bundles and HRG variants. Our goal for these new weapons is to continue to provide new and interesting gameplay while delivering a fun and familiar gun feel for the types of creative and realistic weapons the community enjoys.

Additional Maps
- With two major content updates ahead for Summer and Fall, we have two new maps planned for the year. First, for Summer, we’ll be looking to partner again with one of the top mappers to enhance a popular community map for official inclusion. For Fall, we’re looking to bring you somewhere entirely new with an event focused around one the most sinister villains of Killing Floor history.

Additional Weeklies -
We also have new weeklies coming this year focused on challenging the players' new rulesets around the Survival formulas that will force them out of their comfort zones on different maps and approaching killing zeds with unexpected behaviors.

Major Events -
We’ll continue to activate seasonal-themed Zeds and objectives with major updates for you to collect tickets and earn cosmetics. This, of course, will come with new achievements for you all to unlock as well as new cosmetics in the store for you to show your creative flair.

Quality of Life Additions -
We’re looking to make Quality of Life a core focus throughout this coming year so that we can deliver important and impactful tunes based on community feedback so you can play Killing Floor 2 and all it has to offer how you want. The feedback you provide within our surveys, forums, social media, and other community interactions is critically important in helping guide us on how we should prioritize these user experiences and balance changes. Please continue to be active as ever within these channels so we have a good pulse on what the game needs. While we will not be able to address everything that’s requested due to numerous potential factors such as engine/system limitations and resource constraints, we’ll continue to be transparent with what is within our power to implement and do our best to be receptive and open to feedback for how we can improve.

Polish and Bug Fixing -
As with every update, we’ll be addressing a multitude of issues legacy and new that arise over the year. We know we need to deliver to you a quality product and the community’s regular engagement in all of our various channels and forums in alerting us to any issues is a significant help to the development team. We encourage you to continue engaging with the regular betas we release before major updates, filling out our surveys, and posting your findings. As a reminder, the best way to bring bugs to our attention is through our official forums are available here:

We’ll be telegraphing our upcoming content through our usual Merc Reports to give you an early look at the content ahead will have many more community streams to play us and experience the new content. We invite you all to stay tuned and look forward to hearing from us in the coming weeks and months as we roll out this year’s road map.

Addressed Community Feedback
As mentioned in the 2021 Killing Floor 2 ‘State of the Game’ our goal is to bring to the community a continued stream of QOL changes for each update throughout the year. Please continue to report any QOL changes you believe should be added to the game by submitting your feedback in the ‘general’ section on our official forums at: https://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/forum/killing-floor-2

General
  • Option to disable enemy seasonal skins, only active during seasonal skin periods:
    • Added option in the HUD for “Create a Match” and “Solo Game”.
    • Server Admins can use the command: ?AllowSeasonalSkins=1 to enable Seasonal Skins or ?AllowSeasonalSkins=0 to disable Seasonal Skins when creating a Server.
    • Added icon for Server Details.
    • Added filter in the Server Browser.

  • New order rules in the Cosmetics and Crafting items sections in the inventory:
    • Items will be grouped in categories by outfit, type or skin variation.
    • Rarity is also accounted for.

Balance
  • Weapons
    • Gravity Imploder
      • Equip Speed from 1.3 seconds to 0.5 seconds.
      • Fire Interval from 1.33 seconds to 1 second (which means from 45 RPM to 60 RPM).

    • Doshinegun
      • Damage per hit increased from 60 to 80.
      • Trader price decreased from 600 to 400.
      • Dosh cost per shot decreased from 20 to 10 (which means full magazine cost decreased from 400 to 200).

    • HRG Beluga Beat
      • Remove need of pre-activating alt-fire.
      • Alt-fire Fire Interval adjusted to 0.75 (80 RPM).
      • Magazine size decreased from 12 to 10.
      • Spare ammo decreased from 96 to 90.

Designer Notes:
Many players have requested the option to disable Seasonal Skins during Seasonal Skin periods. In order to do this, we have added an option to create a match without Seasonal Skins, for both online and offline sessions. This also means that, when finding a match, players can enter a session with Seasonal Skins enabled or not, depending on which option was selected by the creator of the match.
We have added a new icon to the Server details to show if a server from the Server browser has Seasonal Skins or not. Players can also use a filter to disable all servers with Seasonal Skins.
We have improved the order for the Cosmetic and Crafting items sections in the inventory, as we did in the Tidal Terror update with the Weapon Skin section. Now, Cosmetics will be grouped regarding outfits and skin variants, as well as rarity. In the Crafting section, the grouping will be: all Cosmetic Material together, all Weapon Skins Material and all items together, as wall as ordered by rarity. Tickets will be in this order: Cyberpunk, Summer Sideshow, Halloween Treat and Christmas Treat.
Finally, regarding balance, we have made tweaks in three weapons always keeping in mind your feedback:
Gravity Imploder was a slow weapon, but now it will be more agile since the equip speed is faster and the fire interval between shots is reduced.
Doshinegun damage was low and dosh cost for using it was very high, so we have increased the damage a bit and reduced the dosh needed per shot. And, if this were not enough, we also have decreased its price in the Trader.
HRG Beluga Beat is a powerful and effective weapon, but the alt-fire was not very comfortable to use. To improve this, we have changed the way in which the alt-fire is used, and now it doesn’t require it to be pre-activated before a shot. You can shoot directly using the alt-fire button, as many other weapons do. Because of this change, we had to adjust the alt-fire, to make it different from the main fire. This alt-fire change will improve the effectiveness of the weapon, so, in order to not make it too overpowered, we have adjusted the ammo amount a bit, but not too much.

Beta Balance
  • Weapons
    • HRG Ballistic Bouncer:
      • Damage (uncharged) reduced from 114 to 29.
      • Damage (charged) reduced from 600 to 200.

    • HRG Medic Missile:
      • Explosion damage from 400 to 700.
      • Explosion Damage Falloff exponent from 2 to 1
      • Reload speed faster, from 2.56 seconds to 1.88 seconds
      • Added Scrake's vulnerability to Ballistic rocket impact x3
      • Reduced distance needed for the explosion of the projectile, from 4 meters to 2 meters.

    • ZED MKIII:
      • Magazine ammo from 100 to 50.
      • Spare ammo from 400 to 350.
      • Energy bullets StunPower from 15 to 5.
      • Magazine price from 60 to 75.

    • HV Storm Cannon
      • StunPower from 50 to 25.
      • StumblePower from 200 a 85.
      • GunHitPower from 150 to 0.
      • MeleeHitPower from 100 to 0.
      • EMPPower from 100 to 25.

Beta Designer Notes:
HRG Ballistic Bouncers’ damage was too high, so we applied a major debuff. This change was also made due to fixing a Ballistic Bouncer’s bug which caused some of the projectiles to not impact.
Addressing the issue causing the Medic Missile to be one of the least useful Medic weapons, we increased its general damage as well as the reload speed. As well, the distance needed for the missile to explode was reduced in order to help players to get more successful shots.
ZED MKIII was overpowered regarding community’s feedback, so we reduced the overall ammo for the weapon, as well as its stun power.
HV Storm Cannon’s changes were applied in order to avoid canceling Matriarch’s plasma attack and canceling Scrake’s rage too easily.

KF2 Christmas2022 Beta
To opt into this beta on Steam, join the "preview" branch available in the Beta drop-down list. Admins will need to use the following SteamCMD flag:
  • app_update 232130 -beta preview

To opt into this beta on EGS, the Beta will be accessible within KF2 owners’ game libraries as a separate install called “Killing Floor 2 Beta”. Users may need to restart their EGS launcher for the Beta to populate and be accessible to install. Progress for stats and inventory is shared between both versions on EGS so for users switching between Beta and Live be sure to sync your game data to use the latest timestamp to prevent any lost progress from participating in the Beta. The Beta on EGS also includes its dedicated server within the install folder for your hosting needs for this version.

Special Note: You may find that this beta is a bit less polished than normal. This beta build has some known issues to the new content that is already being addressed, but the team is prioritizing the opportunity to gather and react to player feedback over delaying the beta. With the tight timing in mind, we are planning on only 1 beta stage ahead of the final release. Feedback from beta will be included into the final release. However, some changes and fixes may not make it into the final release and there will be opportunity for more fixes and changes after the holidays. Please see the Known Issues section for more details.

By the way, choosing Perk is sometimes a difficult decision, but it won’t be in the new Weekly Mode, Perk Roulette, in which every wave you will play as a different perk randomly assigned. But don’t worry, because you can still choose our two new HRG weapons just created by Horzine Research Group: the HRG Ballistic Bouncer for the Support and the HRG Medic Missile for the Field Medic. Check them out and show the Zeds what you are made of!

Beta for this update contains a lot of exciting new features! As such, feedback is going to be incredibly important. Stay tuned for a link to a survey where you, the community, will be able to provide your feedback directly to us! Thank you!

    • Server Admins can use the command: ?AllowSeasonalSkins=0 to enable Seasonal Skins or ?AllowSeasonalSkins=1 to disable Seasonal Skins when creating a Server.
    • Added icon for Server Details.
    • Added filter in the Server Browser.

  • New order rules in the Cosmetics and Crafting items sections in the inventory:
    • Items will be grouped in categories by outfit, type or skin variation.
    • Rarity is also accounted.

Balance

To improve this, we have changed the way in which the alt-fire is used, and now it doesn’t require to be pre-activated before a shot.
Known Issues
Mercs, due to timing, this update is going out into first beta with some major known issues with the new content. These items are already being addressed, but we are prioritizing player feedback on the content and changes in this build over delaying the beta and having less time to react to player feedback.

Killing Floor 2 - Molly
Mercs,

Just in time for those of you looking for a lovely location to spend a Winter holiday, Hozine will be sending you to the English countryside for an operation named aptly, Crash.

A Horzine cargo train is at the center of this outbreak. We need eyes on this incident that needs to be investigated. Horzine wants to know what’s left of the cargo. Secure the area while seeking what may have led to this accident.

Initial recon has sent few reports back about the site and conditions. Bundle up, we do know you’ll be facing icy conditions and a bitter chill. A few detours have been marked to help you maneuver around the grounds with a bit more ease if you bring along a shotgun powerful enough to give you a boost.

This industrial complex looked to be preparing for the holidays, just like the rest of us. Clear out the threat of zeds. The staff and everyone else have been run off. Strangely enough, It seems somehow that these halls were bustling with activity just days ago, however whoever they were seemed to have fled.

Since the zeds moved in, it looks as though they may have been doing a bit of decorating of their own for the season. Decking the halls and other areas with their own version of “cheer” the area has a disturbing feeling to it with their questionable taste in decor.

Horzine has stressed that this plant must get back up and running again in a timely manner. It likely has something to do with all the gifts and other holiday goods found littering the grounds. We need our bravest mercs to explore the multiple levels of this complex terminating anything in your way. From the higher peaks on the buildings to the depths of the sewers, this place must be cleaned out and the zed leader dealt with so we can get that holiday cargo where it needs to be.

Crash is the latest Official Community map to be added to the game, created by community level designer Tamari.

First squads will be sent out to the “Crash” with the new weapons expected in the coming weeks (subject to change as development continues) for PC mercs as an opt in beta.
Killing Floor 2 - Molly
Hello Mercs!

We talk about it so often, what do you get the merc who has everything? Horzine has some ideas to add to your shopping list that would impress even the most bah-humbugging of Scrooges.

Let’s start your list of goregeous gifts right for the holidays with the Zed Eradication Device Mark III. Or ZED MKIII for short. For those of you who are veterans out there on the battlefield you may remember the ZED MKI and the ZED MKII. The third time's the charm or proof of insanity. Either way, this monster of a gun is sure to electrify and delight mercs this Winter.

Techs at Horzine have simplified the gun with a single mode, for ease of use. Have no fear though, this gun lives up to its name because this one mode fires a spinning barrel of swarm auto target rockets while spitting out a continuous stream of 20mm Microwave rounds to disorient and daze zeds. The charged up bullets will thunder down in an angry fury that will eliminate most mob tier zeds with ease. But wait til they get a load of the rockets that will make even larger threats a thing of Christmas past. After a fixed interval of bullets, a high powered homing rocket is shot at the closest target in front of you. Like its predecessors, the Z.E.D MKIII is equipped with a radar to illuminate any menace in your close proximity. Get this Tier 5 behemoth for your favorite Demolitionist in your life, especially if that favorite Demolitionist is you!

For the Sharpshooter looking for something new and sparkly this season, Horzine brings to you the HV Storm Cannon. Mercs, you won’t have to wait for Christmas future for this cutting edge technology semi auto sniper rifle, it will be in your hands soon.

The HV Storm Cannon fires an electric bullet that does EMP damage that is plenty devastating on its own. However the labcoats couldn’t leave it at just that, with a headshot it creates a burst of lightning that chains up to 3 times doing head damage to any zed stupid enough to be the in original target’s vicinity. The first chain of lighting does 100% damage, the following shots drop off in damage. They say lightning never strikes twice, but you can with this new Tier 4 weapon!

Find out where your next mission is in the next Merc Report!

As a reminder: These weapons can be obtained via the Armory Season Pass 2 or direct individual purchase.
Killing Floor 2 - Yoshiro
Mercs,

It is time to learn about how we are keeping your arsenal topped off with the latest new acquisitions and inventions from the (slightly mad) Horzine Research Group. As is often the case, we can’t comment on the original intent of some of these inventions, but let's just say they’ve been found to have repurposed use out in the field of zed slaying.

HRG Ballistic Bouncer

Introducing the HRG Ballistic Bouncer, the latest weapon from the Horzine Research Group for Support. The group has come up with a new substance that is incredibly dense and has the ability to bounce off hard surfaces. They’ve modified the Mine Reconstructor and are turning super bouncy balls into a bloodsport to wield against the zeds.

Charge up your shot to increase the velocity with which the substance is shot, increasing the number of bounces it’s capable of. This weapon is made to shine in tight spaces. Bludgeoning and stumbling everything, you’ll feel like a dodgeball bully. Unsportsmanlike behavior is encouraged and will likely lead to victory against any opposing team.

HRG Medic Missile

Medic’s we know yours is a never ending and demanding job. So how about healing rockets for high spike AOE healing delivered by a rocket launcher? Scientists here have combined their knack of destruction with the capability to heal.

Simply locate a cluster of fellow mercenaries in need of health and hope, load one of our new missiles containing the Horzine patented healing compound, take aim at the injured, and fire! Viola! You have now delivered a high amount of healing to your new grateful “friends”. And that’s not all it does. You guessed it, that same healing compound will damage and poison any pesky zeds that threaten the group. Equipped with the new HRG Medic Missile, medics will continue to be the heroes we all need.

Next week we’ll have additional arsenal improvements to share, as we dive into the most recent acquisitions being sent into the field alongside you this winter.
Killing Floor 2 - Yoshiro
Mercs,
As we keep moving forward with the battle against the outbreak of numerous science experiments roaming the streets, it’s already time for briefings about what to expect as the next assignment looms closer.

Perk Roulette Weekly Outbreak

Top minds, or mad ones if you ask some, at Horzine have designed a new challenge to keep mercs training for unusual circumstances. Perk Roulette takes control of the merc’s conditions for each mission. In a modified Survival experience, each person’s perk will be randomly selected for them at the start of each wave. With 6 person squads, each perk will be assigned only once, meaning no two mercs can have the same. Additionally, a Perk should not be repeated on the same merc. Other than that, you know what to do, survive the waves and defeat the boss to complete the challenge.

Disable Season Zeds Options

One of KIlling Floor’s most celebrated features is the complete reworking of Zeds to fit Seasonal themes around the holidays. The Killing Floor series started this tradition with the original Killing Floor at a time where it was not something commonly seen. This involves new animations, textures, models, voice and other sounds and is something we are quite proud to add to the game 3 times a year. However, it has been requested to make the Seasonal Zeds optional and in the next update that will be something that players server admins can choose to enable.

  • Creating a Match
    • Players can choose to play on a server with or without Seasonal Zeds in the Create A Match menu options by choosing “Yes” or “No” to enable them.

  • Server Browser
    • Players can choose to play on a server without Seasonal Zeds in the Server Browser menu by choosing a filter option to disable them.

  • Solo Game
    • Players can choose to play a match with or without Seasonal Zeds in the Solo Game menu options by choosing “Yes” or “No” to enable them.

  • Server Admins
    • Details for how admins can set up their server to turn off seasonal skins will be relayed at a later date

  2. Then, order them by rarity, from common to rarest.
Order for Crafting:
  1. Group together the same items (all Cosmetic Material together, all Weapon Skins Material together, all items together).
  2. Then, order items by rarity, from common to rarest.
