Hey everyone! I wanted to post a super early alpha preview of the new game I'm working on. So far I've got a totally new movement system working and I'm working on conceptualizing the art style. I have a lot of ideas about what I want to do with this game, but basically, I'm thinking it will be like Jet Island except with parkour instead of the hoverboard and of course, it'll be terrifying.

I'll have some small updates coming soon for Jet Island. I just needed to take a break from it because it was weighing down my mental health and I need to mix it up and work on my new game.

By the way, this new game doesn't have a title yet, so ideas are very welcome!

This is a HUGE update! Lots of new experimental features that have been in beta for a while now, along with some new features just recently added.

SUPER WORMY: With this modifier, the flying boss in the sky is now 10X bigger! That makes him nearly larger that the world itself! Tremble as this massive creature engulfs the entire sky! I honestly can describe it. You really have to see the massive size of this boss in VR!

(comment below if you can beat Super Wormy! I think it's possible, but he's so massive I think it would be pretty hard!)


NEW LIGHTING: By combining traditional volumetric lighting with a new radical technique of baking thousands of low-poly light rays into the world, the lighting in Jet Island looks awesome! The underground boss fights feel brand new with the changes made to the lighting system.

MULTIPLAYER HIGH-SPEED HIGH-FIVES: Players requested the ability to high-five in multiplayer. But that wasn't good enough for Jet Island. A completely custom mathmatical formula has been contructed to be able to detect crossing motion vectors to detect high-fives at speeds of over 10,000mph!!! Now when you high-five a friend in multiplayer, the game will tell you the speed of you high-five relative to the other player's speed to yours. It also tracks your highest speed high-five high-score!

ARMS: No more floaty hands!

EXTREME SPIN MODE IMPROVED PHYSICS: Surprisingly you all love extreme spin mode! You are all crazy, and that's awesome! Now the physics in extreme spin mode have been fine tuned to be even more realistic and loopty-loops work awesome now!

FEET TRACKING MODE: For those with feet trackers, you can now have the hoverboard attached to your feet! You can steer and carve as if you were riding a real snowboard! You can also kick your feet and do flip tricks with the hoverboard! (This mode might be currently bugged, I'll have it fixed in an update very soon)

IMPROVED MOVING PLATFORM PHYSICS: A complete physics overhaul has been done in the name of improving the physics even further. Moving platforms feel even more smooth and your body colliding against walls feel just a tiny bit more realistic!

Other updates:
-Mute microphone in multiplayer option (Also currently bugged. Will fix very soon.)
-Performance optimizations
-New water!

Get ready for a huge update! Jet Island now has full Valve Index Controller support with finger tracking! Now you can make more realistic hand gestures in multiplayer as well as a new way of grabbing your hoverboard and hookshots! Actually being able to grab and hold your hoverboard with your hand is so natural.

And for all of you who love modifiers, I have added the most requested feature. MULTIPLE MODIFIERS!!! Yes, I had to rewrite some code to make it work, but it was worth it! It's a lot of fun to mix and match all the different modifiers. The combinations are almost endless.

(Remember: Multiple Modifiers needs to be unlocked like the other modifiers. The modifier orb is hidden in a very special spot!)

And since we can now combine modifiers, I added 14 new modifiers!

Now modifiers are marked on your map when you beat the game. They don't show you the exact locations. The map shows a transparent circle that tells you the general area of where a new modifier can be found. In addition, you can now hear and see modifier orbs from further away.

Big improvements to the tutorial area! I completely remodeled the starting landing platform area. Now I think it looks a lot nicer and will give the player space to just cruise forward and play with the motion for a little while. All of the text and instruction have been redone. The game now detects what headset/controllers you are using and shows you a 3D model of your controller. Instead of reading a few sentences of text, the game now highlights what button you need to press. There's also a new hologram character to help show you the ropes!


One more small feature, now with the Index Controllers and with the Oculus Rift/Rift S controllers, you can hold onto your hoverboard like it's a real object. When you want to get off your hoverboard, you actually reach down and pick it up. It feels much more natural! You don't have to bend down all the way to the floor. Just reach to above your knees and you can force grab the hoverboard. If you prefer, you can always set it back to a toggle press in the options menu.

I've been working hard to fix all bugs. Please let me know here on the steam discussion forum or on Discord if you find any new bugs and I will fix them as soon as possible.

Major Changes:
  • 19 New Unique Modifiers! Hidden throughout the world of Jet Island are purple glowing orbs. Each orb unlocks a new modifer! Select your modifier in the main menu before starting a game. Modifiers include new modes such as low-gravity, slow-mo hookshots, and many more!
  • Extreme spin mode! One of my favorite new modifiers allows you to spin, flip, and go upsidedown on walls and loopty-loops! This special mode is only for those with VR legs of steel! Doing backflips at the end of a hookshot swing is a ton of fun!
  • Infinite Jets mode! This modifier has been a requested features. Once this modifier is unlocked, you can more easily explore Jet Island without having to worry about fuel.
  • Super Jets mode! Fly around Jet Island at super extreme speeds! Like 2000mph kind of extreme! This modifier totally changes the game and almost removes all the challenge, but it's super fun!
  • Upside-down World! This modifier flips Jet Island upside-down! Now the sky is down and the ground is up! It feels like a totally new world to explore!
  • Added Delete Profile option to the options menu! This has been a big requested feature. Before it was very difficult to delete a profile and many players needed this since they filled up their profile slots.

Minor Changes:
  • Crossplay with Oculus players fixed! Now Oculus store players can play with Steam players with all the latest updates! In the future if new updates come out sooner on the Steam Store, Steam players will always be able to revert back to the same version as the Oculus store players by selecting "oculuscrossplay" in the Betas tab in the Jet Island properties. This is only required if the version (displayed under Jet Island title) is different for you and your friend on Oculus store.
  • Adjusted stats and how the jet cooldown works.
  • Added a "New Features" list in the main menu to quickly see what new features have been added in the version you're currently playing.
  • Added game verion under the title so you can more easily see the exact verion of the game you are playing.
  • Improved keyboard for creating a new profile! Numbers, spaces, and symbols have been added.
  • Added Unlocked Abilities & Info to the in-game stats screen! Now you can see what abilities you have unlocked and quick instuctions on how to use them.
  • Fixed the charging effect on the gun for the unlocked Auto-Charge gun.
  • Improved drones going through walls under the island. Not 100% perfect, but definitely improved.
  • Increased the time before the crab boss falls after you defeat him.
  • Added a "Switch Profile" button to the main menu.
  • Other small improvements to the main menu.
  • Collision detection improvements.
  • Fixed issue, now you'll raise up a foot when standing on your hoverboard from off the ground. Feels more like you're stepping up onto a floating hoverboard.
  • Made "snap 45" set to default turn mode for all headsets. Now if you're playing for the first time, you can swipe on the trackpad on vive or joysticks on the Rift and WMR to snap turn. This option was already in the game, it's just now activated by default.

Major Changes:
  • Improved Tutorial
  • New intro boss fight after exiting the tutorial, jump right into the action!
  • All boss fights now give you ability upgrades!
  • Hookshot Retract Ability, reel yourself in while holding hookshot button + trigger.
  • Power Jump Ability, bend your knees and stand up fast to do a power jump off of the ground!
  • Gun Upgrades, long-shot, power-shot, and auto-charge!
  • Unlock drone locations on map after beating the final boss!

Minor Changes:
  • Upgrade crystals after defeating a boss are now used to help guide the player towards the boss chamber exit tunnel.
  • Select max number of player when creating a new online game.
  • Increased hookshot pull strength to make it easier to climb up the sides of buildings and mountains.
  • Adjusted starting stats, jet fuel now lasts longer to make it easier for new players to navigate.
  • Fixed collision detection bug where camera used to shake while hanging on the side of a wall.
  • Fixed collision bug where you used to be able to pull the ground up to your knees while off your hoverboard.
  • Fixed display messages for checkpoint and upgrades not being able to be seen through walls.
  • Boss towers islands are now marked on the map with roman numerals to indicate their order.
  • Fixed checkpoint bug on the 3rd underground boss when hitting the water after defeating him.
  • North, South, East, & West added to the map to help with communication in multiplayer.
  • A few minor buildings and jumps added to the first and second island.

Finally! After 2 years of development, Jet Island finally has an official release date! September 21st! I've been working hard to fix all known bugs and add the last few crucial gameplay features. This game has come such a long way. It's such an epic adventure and it's finally ready for release. I can't wait to share this world with all of you, the game is so much fun. Thank you everyone so much for your support and excitement! I can't wait! Jet Island is finally going to be released!

Jet Island - MasterIndie

This is the biggest beta update yet! After a long silence due to working hard on development, I'm proud to say the development of Jet Island's gameplay is nearly complete. Jet Island is now a full adventure, with a beginning and end. The game now has 4 complete boss fights, each more epic and more massive than the last. Especially the final one, the boss fights are like nothing you've ever experienced before.
In addition to the new boss battles, players now can upgrade their stats. Drones are placed throughout the world, waiting in towers marked with a red beam. Defeat them to get crystals that update your stats. This allows the gameplay to be well balanced at the same time as giving the player the ability to max out their stats and really push the limits of the speed that is possible with the game's unique physics system.
There's also tons of new level design added to the game. The world feels even bigger now with all the new stuff to explore. From the astroids in the sky to the caverns down below, this world is not only just an open world, but a completely 3D open world.
Lots of other small changes have been added to the game such as a reoverhaule of the player progression system. Saving is automatic and works a lot better now, as well as syncing player progression in online co-op.
I have been asked many many times, when will this game be released? I don't have a specific day chosen yet. All I can say is the game is 99% done. The game's actual gameplay, the adventure that makes this game awesome, is complete! Of course there will always be updates with small bug fixes, gameplay balances, and sometimes new features. So really the only things left on my to-do list are quality of life things, such as menu stuff, inviting your friends to a private party, more options in the options menu, etc.
The game is extremely close to having an official release date. Jet Island is now an unique adventure that is hard to describe with words or video just how awesome it feels to play in VR. Stay tuned, this game is going to be epic!

Make your way deep underground, through a labyrinth of death traps. At the end of the obstacles and tight passageways, you will find the entrance to an absolutly gigantic areana! In the center of the giant areana is a massive tree. Climbing on it is the newest giant mini-boss of Jet Island!

Everything about this new mini-boss is twice as epic as the giant hanging spider mini-boss. The battle is being taken vertical, up in the tree tops! The lizard mini-boss is nearly twice the size as the spider. And to fit a new monster this huge, the areana is twice the size too. With these mini-boss areana being so large, boost-pads have been added to greatly increase your speed and send you flying high in the air!

Also to complete Jet Island as a video game, better tutorial instruction signs have been added to the tutorial area. This makes things a lot more clear and the hologram effect looks pretty cool. World checkpoints have been added throughout the world too. These really help make a more clear sense of progression as well as making sure when the player dies, they are taken back to a place they rembemeber being at before. Also the checkpoints play nice music and make a cool particle effect when you activate them. It's pretty satisfying to explore the world and collect them :)

Keep an eye out for the next update. I have another miniboss in mind and I think it's going to be pretty awesome!

Decend into a giant underground cavern. There you will find the new and epic mini-boss! He is a giant robot spider that hangs from the massive dome ceiling while he fires powerful lasers at anyone who crosses his path. Use the giant skatepark ramps to out manuver this epic creature.

With the addition of mini-boss fights and underground caverns to explore, Jet Island is really starting to feel like an adventure game. Exploration, movement, and epic battles all come together to create a unique gameplay experience. I'm really looking forward to adding more giant mini-boss fights like this one. It's going to be epic!

Also, there are new high-tech hookshot sights on the back of your hand in the game now. Aiming the hookshots has always been tricky. Now you can aim your hookshots with extreme accuracy, but in a way that still requires skill and doesn't break your immersion.
