Hunt: Showdown

Crytek's atmospheric multiplayer horror romp, Hunt: Showdown, will finally make its way to PS4 on 18th February - and console cross-play is confirmed for a future update too.

Hunt: Showdown initially launched on Steam early access back in February 2018, and an Xbox Game Preview version arrived last May. Both versions saw a full release at the tail-end of 2019, so it's been a fair old wait for those PS4 owners hoping to get involved.

The good news is that Hunt: Showdown's tense, unsettling spin on team-based multiplayer has been well-received. The gist, for those unawares, is that each match sees 12 bounty hunters - working solo or in teams of two or three - set loose across either monster-infested Louisiana swampland or, in the newest map, through an equally atmospheric, ramshackle town.

Hunt: Showdown

Crytek's atmoshpheric multiplayer swamp horror Hunt: Showdown is free to try this weekend on Steam.

Hunt: Showdown, which launched on Steam early access earlier this year following several months in closed alpha, is a moody, first-person affair, blending elements of PvE and PvP into a single, compelling premise.

As each match begins, teams of either solo or duo bounty hunters are set loose across gloomy, monster-infested Louisiana swampland, all with the same objective: to be the first to locate and eliminate a particularly large, especially unpleasant hellbeast.

Cevat Yerli, the controversial boss and co-founder of Crysis developer Crytek, has stepped down as CEO and president.

Yerli, who was public enemy number one as Crytek staff went unpaid for months, will continue as "strategic shareholder", but the company will now be led by his brothers Avni and Faruk as joint CEOs.

The change comes following the launch of multiplayer first-person shooter and monster hunting game Hunt Showdown, which is developed alongside CryEngine at the company's Frankfurt, Germany office. Crytek continues to work on Warface at its Kiev studio. Crytek's Istanbul office operates Warface in Turkey.

Hunt: Showdown

Crytek has announced that its promising multiplayer swamp horror Hunt: Showdown is entering Steam Early Access today.

Hunt: Showdown sees teams of two players scouring thick monster-infested Louisiana swampland in search of a specific, boss-like creatures each round. The first team to locate and eliminate that target gets the bounty, whereupon all other teams immediately switch their attention to chasing down the victors - to forcibly claim their spoils for themselves.

It's an immediately compelling premise, and there looks to be a solid mechanical core beneath the brooding Deep South ambiance. Hunt: Showdown has been in closed alpha testing over the last month, with a select number of registered players being invited to take part, and early word has been pretty promising.

Hunt: Showdown

Crytek has released a punchily informative new tutorial video, detailing the basic flow of its promising multiplayer swamp horror Hunt: Showdown.

It's intended as an introduction to the game for those participating in the closed alpha, and while it covers much of the same ground as the ten minute gameplay video released at E3 last year, it throws in a few more specific details on how a hunt will unfold.

It's well worth watching if you've been curious for a slightly more detailed breakdown of the game's mechanics, but the rough version goes something like this: as a match begins, you and a co-op partner are dropped onto the game's atmospheric swamp map, ready to locate the chosen demonic target for the round. As we've been told before, numerous other teams are deposited on the map at the same time, all searching for the same elusive beast.

Hunt: Showdown

Crytek has announced that its intriguing multiplayer swap horror, Hunt: Showdown, will enter closed alpha on January 31st, and players can sign up to participate now.

Hunt: Showdown debuted at last year's E3 and looks to offer an atmospheric blend of first-person PvE and PvP. When a match begins, up to five teams (consisting of either one or two players) must roam the thick Louisiana swampland in a bid to be the first locate and eliminate a specific, boss-like creature. The first team to fell the target gets the bounty, whereupon every other team on the map will turn their sights on the victors as they make their escape.

Crytek plans to launch Hunt: Showdown in Steam Early Access prior to its full release. Before that, however, it will be holding closed alpha sessions with a select group of players. These early alpha phases are designed to test gameplay, balancing, and backend functionality, and to gather community feedback. New content - including weapons, equipment, traits, and ranks - will be continuously released and tested as the alpha progresses.

Hunt: Showdown

Crytek has announced that Hunt: Showdown, its multiplayer swamp-based bounty hunting horror game, will hold closed alpha sessions for a limited number of participants this winter.

Hunt: Showdown is a moody, first-person multiplayer affair - blending elements of PvE and PvP - in which up to five teams of two race through thick Louisiana swampland, tracking formidable monsters. The first team to bag a match's target will claim the bounty - at which point every other team on the map will turn their sights on the victors. It's a compelling concept, and early footage released during E3 this year looked pretty promising.

The plan for Hunt: Showdown, according to Crytek, is to hold an initial closed alpha on PC with a very limited number of players. The studio will then invite more and more players as those early tests continue. "This is the first step in building a close relationship with our community and integrating their feedback into our development process", says Crytek. Once the studio is satisfied with its early tests, Hunt: Showdown will move to Steam Early Access.
