A mild eruption of excitable comments on Twitter drew my attention to the Kaptain Brawe 2 Kickstarter. Having just launched, it’s a long way from its $150,000 goal but there are 34 days to go and there seems to be a fair amount of good feeling for the original game. Unfortunately, that’s not the case here at RPS Towers where news of the crowdfunded sequel to the comedic sci-fi point and clicker was met with confusion and fear. I think I’m the only one who clicked on the link but all of our responses are below.

John’s at GDC, so when I was looking for a comment on The Blackwell Epiphany trailer, I thrust the RPS Truthdaphone underneath Adam’s nose, demanding to know if he was excited. He responded with: “I love the headbutt on the cop. Who says point and click games aren’t bad-ass?” Adam is from Manchester.

The Truthdaphone registered 12, so he’s not lying. And I’m not surprised: it’s carefully plotted, keenly written, idea-driven, and beautifully animated bad-assery as well. This is Halloween, everybody make a scene! Oh, crumbs. It’s not Halloween at all, is it? It’s the other one. The one when we burn effigies on a fire and watch on in horror as our pet dogs cower in a puddle of their own wee, thinking they’ve been caught in the middle of a war. Let’s pretend it is still Halloween though because Dave Gilbert, adventure-builder and founder of Wadjet Eye Games, has a scary story to tell. I spoke to him about how an attempt to give away Blackwell: Deception for free became a trying ordeal. Then we chased away the ghouls and talked about how adventure games really never died, how the Blackwell series will end, and what comes next.>

While some of the Indie Royale Bundles haven’t been the strongest, the latest collection in its almost-pay-what-you-want pile is pretty strong. Featuring one of last year’s best games, To The Moon, alongside Wadjet Eye’s most recent Blackwell game, Deception, is Oil Rush, Reprisal, and something called Avseq.

Adventure, ho! In the sense of heading out, of course, not issuing a demand to an unimaginative lady of the night. This latest pay-more-or-less-what-you-want bundle to hit the net is a pretty good deal, with seven games for the usual pay-more-or-less-what-you want, including Gemini Rue and a brand new offering called The Sea Will Claim Everything, a bit of charity, and an interesting way to help kickstart a new developer without spending a penny extra.

Adventure Game Studio is a free engine and toolkit for the creation of point-and-click adventure games. Since its appearance in 1997, it’s grown in scope to the point where it’s now utilised in many commercial titles. Lewis Denby put on his fictionsuit and plunged face-first into the world of AGS – taking a look at the games and speaking to some of the developers who swear by it.
