Steam Trading Cards:

Frontline Zed Trading Cards are now available!

As you play through the game, you will automatically earn Trading Cards.

By trading with other users to collect the whole set of six cards, you can then unlock unique Frontline Zed badges, emoticons, and profile backgrounds to enhance and level up your Steam Community profile.






Optimization and Improvements:
  • Faster Weapon Switching - Switching time reduced from 2.8 seconds to 1.8 seconds, with an updated and improved animation. Changing to a pistol is also faster than switching to a rifle.

  • Survivor Enemy Detection - Survivors will more reliably target enemies that are attacking the barricade when not directly in front of them.

  • Performance Optimisation - 5-10% FPS increase from improved GPU instancing.


9 New Achievements:
  • Marksman - Get 500 Headshots

  • Hoarder - Accumulate 4 Barrels and 4 Grenades

  • Full Auto Full Awesome - Kill 20 Zombies with the AA12 Shotgun

  • Splash Damage - Kill 5 Zombes with one Grenade

  • 3 in a Row - Kill 3 Zombies with one L96 Bullet

  • Hazard Team - Kill 3 HAZMAT Zombies

  • Megaton - Use 3 Grenades in one night

  • Going all out - Allocate 4 Barrels in one Night

  • Two Against the World - Finish 2 player coop in NewGame+

Other Tweaks and FIxes:
  • Fixed blue texture on Security zombie

  • Reduced L96 damage from 235 to 200, Rate of Fire from 2.1 to 2.3. This still allows the weapon to one-shot all zombies except Military zombies, which require headshot placement.

  • Moved L96 looting location to Military level from an earlier level for NewGame+

  • Added a recommendation to play Coop mode in 'Hard' difficulty to the Main Menu UI when starting that mode.

A note for Returning Players:
If you last played a much earlier version (1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3), you will need to start a new campaign, and confirm and hit apply to your graphics and gameplay settings in the Options menu.

If you need to reset all your settings to default, you can delete your save folder located at
C:\\Users\\**USERNAME**\\AppData\\LocalLow\\Volcanic Games\\Frontline Zed

Update 1.41 is now live which delivers a 5-10% FPS increase.

GPU Instancing functionality has been improved for many environmental objects, and zombies.

Fixed weapons getting stuck when rapidly switching between weapons.

New Features:
  • CrimPlex Prison Complex - take a new path through Stanton City and fight through the CrimPlex Prison Complex, set across two new maps. Collect two powerful new weapons, including the fully-automatic AA12 shotgun.

    The CrimPlex campaign path is available in both regular and NewGame+ game modes, including Coop.



  • SCAR - Find the new SCAR weapon in CrimPlex West. The SCAR has fully automatic fire, 30 round magazine, and much higher accuracy than the AKM, but slightly lower damage.

  • AA12 - With fully automatic fire and a 10 round magazine, this shotgun is great at clearing out hordes of weaker zombies. However, its limited accuracy will make headshots - particularly against armored zombies - more difficult. The AA12 can be found in CrimPlex East.



  • Full UltraWide 21:9 Support - all 16 levels of the game have been updated to support UltraWidescreen 21:9 Resolution. This aspect ratio and the associated resolutions can be selected in the Options menu.







  • Spanish Localisation - Spanish Localisation has been added.

Additional New Features and Optimisations:
  • New Achievement: Prison Break.
  • Optimised various zombie meshes and textures.
  • Relit the Factory level

Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed being unable to access the regular game mode after completing NewGame+.
  • Fixed the Vector firing 9 shots in a burst when used by a survivor.

Balance:
  • Increase Chainsaw damage by 10%.
  • Increased S12K capacity to 5 shots, slightly reduced damage.

Given the changes to the campaign, it is suggested to start a new game.

Update 1.3 for Frontline Zed is now available:

New Features:
  • ZiGen Science Facility and Branching Campaign - take a detour through Georgetown and travel through the ZiGen Science Facility, split across two new maps. Collect two unique new weapons, and fight against infected HAZMAT and Scientist zombies.



  • SPAS-15 - This new shotgun reloads and shoots fast, but at the cost of slightly lower damage. Find the SPAS-15 on ZiGen East.

  • Vector - Find the new Vector weapon in ZiGen West. The Vector packs a 3 round burst and good accuracy, though slightly lower per-shot damage compared to the UZI and UMP.



  • NewGame+ - Unlock this new mode after finishing the original campaign. Rapidly unlock powerful weapons, and fight against an even bigger and stronger horde. Includes an early access preview of two of the new weapons coming in Update 1.4 - see if you can find them!

  • New Visual FX - stray bullets will now strike and impact metal, concrete, rubber, glass, and wood surfaces.


Additional New Features:
  • New Achievement: Complete NewGame+
  • New Achievement: Survive ZiGen Labs
  • New Achievement: Shoot or Explode a Zombie over the railing on ZiGen East
  • The player is now prompted to reduce difficulty if they die multiple times on the same level.
  • Added a third weapon rack to accomodate the new and future weapons.
  • The game will be slightly easier if the player has 1 survivor or less, to minimise death looping.
  • Can turn Zombie ragdoll shadows on or off in the Options menu (defaults to off).

Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed barrel selection UI not showing on 21:9 monitors
  • Fixed barrels not appearing when selected for a second night after being destroyed on the first night
  • Fixed missing characters for some languages (like French).

Optimisation:
  • Reduced game build size by about 2GB by optimising UI and Barricade textures
  • Reduced hitches and improved performance by replacing the custom (Alembic) barricade system with a standard rigged and animated barricade.
  • Optimisations to various levels to reduce some unnecessary polygons from background objects.
  • Disabled muzzle flash shadows to improve performance. Will be re-added to 'high' quality mode in a future update.

Given the changes to the campaign, you will need to start a New Game - this Update is not save game compatible.

Patch 1.31:
  • Reduced weapon switching time for all weapons by 1.5 seconds.
  • Fixed Dangerous Work Environment Achievement.
  • Fixed Can't Touch This Achievement.
  • Fixed bug which reduced difficulty for Coop mode, which was only meant to apply in Single Player when the player had 1 or no survivors.
  • Increased zombie health by 15% in coop mode.

Patch 1.22 is now available:

New Features:
  • Added 21:9 aspect ratio selection to Options
  • Added 1920x800, 2560x1080, 3440x1440 resolutions
  • Menus and Weapon Rack have been updated to work with 21:9 monitors.
  • Ingame levels have black bars on either side to replicate 16:9 aspect ratio. An update for all levels to be viewable with 21:9 is planned for Update 1.4.
  • Added a confirmation prompt/timer when changing graphical settings.
Bug FIxes:
  • Changed the physics setting on explodable barrels so that they are less likely to fall through the terrain.
Balance Changes:
  • Reduced zombie runner health to 90% of regular health (Zombies that start running after they have already spawned are still at full health)
  • Slightly increased survivor weapon accuracy
  • Increased the reload animation speed for Snub, Luger, G17, Revolver, M38, Sawn-Off, Uzi by about 10% and updated the reload sounds accordingly
  • Reduced the health of early game heavy zombie variants from 190 to 185
  • Increased holster and unholster (change weapon) speed when using a pistol by 10%
  • Made the Chainsaw damage hitbox longer

  • Reduced the overall number of zombies which spawn on Parking map

Update 1.2 for Frontline Zed is now available:

New Features:
  • Chainsaw - Find the new Chainsaw weapon on Level 3, Jim's Junkyard. The chainsaw makes a useful backup weapon, for clearing out multiple enemies at your barricade. The Chainsaw cannot be equipped by survivors.



  • Explosive Traps - as you progress through the game, you'll begin to collect explosive traps, which can be activated at the beginning of each new night. Any unused traps will be returned to your inventory. Activated traps need to be shot to explode, and take a few hits before they do - time your shots carefully to align with big zombie waves.



  • Survivor Weapon Allocation - you can now allocate weapons to your survivors at the start of each night. When selecting your loadout from the Weapon Rack, the first two weapons you select will be yours, and the next weapons you select will be equipped by any survivors you have available. Weapons selected for you will be marked in red, and weapons selected for your survivors will be marked in green.



Additional New Features:
  • New Achievement- Kill an Armored Enemy with a Chainsaw
  • Added a Difficulty Selection choice to the start of the game

Balance Changes:
  • Added a Dynamic Difficulty system, reducing zombie spawns when the player has died on that level previously, their barricade is at very low health, or there are multiple zombies attacking their barricade
  • Generally overhauled zombie spawner settings and area map looting values across the board
  • Survivor weapon shots are now only partially accurate instead of 100% accurate
  • Reduced the maximum amount of damage that the barricade can take per second
  • Slightly reduced time between shots for Eagle
  • Slightly reduced time between shots for M16 bursts
  • Slightly reduced the number and frequency of zombies that spawn in on the first level

Improvements:
  • Fixed survivors fleeing into obstacles
  • Reduced game install/download size by 800MB by optimizing Barricade, weapon and Zombie textures
  • Fixed missing stump textures on Zombie Policeman
  • Increase the thickness and visibility of weapon highlights on the Weapon Rack
  • Made the graphical option selection descriptions easier to read

Given the number of new features added in this Update, its highly recommended that you start a brand new game instead of loading from a save game.

A Note on Update 1.3:

With Update 1.2 released, we'll begin work on Update 1.3 - which will include new weapons, enemies, levels (Origins and Aftermath), and features. Update 1.3 is planned for release at the beginning of February. Once Update 1.3 is released, later this year we'll be releasing a final 1.4 Update specific for the PC version of the game, which will include 21:9 Ultra Widescreen support, some additional graphics options, and some other tweaks.

PATCH 1.21:
This small patch was released on the 12th December and includes some minor balance tweaks:

Update 1.12 is now live, with the following changes:

Balance:
  • Reduced the difficulty of the beginning Forest level
  • Easy mode is now easier: Zombie health reduced from 80% to 75%
  • Hard mode is now easier: Zombie health reduced from 125% to 110%
  • Luger capacity reduced from 8 to 7
Tweaks:
  • If a reload animation has played for 2 seconds or longer, the reload will be completed even if the animation did not fully play out (eg. when switching weapon or throwing a grenade).
  • Can view the controls from the ingame ESC menu
  • Separated Audio and Gameplay tabs in the Options menu

Update 1.2 development is proceeding well, and will be released later this month.
