Fall Guys

Do you remember your first Fall Guys win? For me, it was soon after launch. I'd been playing for a week, reached a few finals previously and Fall Mountain was up. Eight players were left, my three party members were out and crucially, I started at the back row. Not great odds, but once we began, the cannons became my new friends. Knocking over several contenders, I swiftly dodged those spinning hammers, two players jumped early and once they'd missed, that crown was mine. What a rush that gave me.

Generally, big multiplayer games aren't my normal go-to and shooters rarely grab my attention, so battle royales like Apex or Fortnite never cut it. As a platforming fan, Fall Guys held my interest immediately through its unique premise, offering a 60-player game show as we (usually) competed across platforming courses. I was hooked but that initial feeling didn't last. I'm familiar with Season 2 and 3's content, having played it in subsequent seasons, though I barely recall them at the time.

For a time, my interest waned gradually, only playing once or twice a month. Like any live service game though, Fall Guys gradually evolved and a year later, Mediatonic's implemented significant changes which cemented this experience. Show Selector let us choose which playlist to participate in, stage variants were introduced, while challenges provided extra kudos and crown shards. That's without mentioning custom lobbies and PC/PS4 cross-play, I can go on. All great additions, but what brought me back was Squads Show in Season 4. Arguably, nothing's transformed this experience more.

Fall Guys, Mediatonic's knockabout battle royale game, has reintroduced its "No Teams" playlist for players who prefer to go solo than duke it out as a team.

The change comes because of "unprecedented" complaints from players who are frustrated by rounds that require teamwork, presumably because - and I know this from personal experience - there's a small but pervasive underclass of players that thinks it's funny to mess about and throw the round.

"There has been unprecedented complaints regarding levels in which you compete as part of a unit," reports Beanbot on the game's hugely popular Twitter account. "Duly, we have reinstated a playlist called 'No Teams'.

The fifth season of Fall Guys has a jungle theme, with Indiana Jones and Spelunky elements.

A suspiciously-familiar adventurer with a whip and an officially-licensed Spelunky costume both feature in the battle royale's new battle pass.

This season also sees the introduction of duos and trios matches, as well as Limited Time Events with challenges and unique rewards.

Fall Guys' 80s-themed fourth season has reached its mid-point, meaning, as is now tradition, the arrival of a brand-new content update designed to freshen up the second half of the season with a variety of new gameplay twists and additions.

As detailed over on the Fall Guys subreddit, Season 4.5, which is out now on PC and PlayStation 4, introduces two brand-new rounds - Slimescraper and Button Bashers - as well as a total of 55 variations across 12 rounds. Slimescraper is described as spiritual successor to Slime Clime, tasking players with outrunning slime and mastering "multiple floors of mayhem", while Button Bashers is a 1v1 round in which players are split into duelling pairs - the winner being the one with the most points when the timer runs out.

As for those new level variations, a full list isn't available, but developer Mediatonic has confirmed low-gravity versions of Hex-a-gone and Thin Ice.

Fall Guys developer Mediatonic has been scooped up Epic Games, as part of the Fortnite and Unreal Engine developer's acquisition of the Tonic Games Group.

Announcing the deal on its website, Mediatonic called the move a "huge win for Fall Guys", claiming that joining Epic "will accelerate our plans to improve the game and bring Fall Guys to as many players as possible, while continuing to support the community."

According to the developer, it'll be business as usual for Fall Guys following the acquisition - "each season, we'll continue to expand...with new content, features, rounds, and costumes", it writes - and the game will remain available on Steam and the PlayStation Store. Fall Guys' recently announced Switch and Xbox editions will also still go ahead this summer.

Fall Guys developer Mediatonic wants your views on what you think are the best - and not-so-best - Fall Guy rounds.

In a plea shared on the game's social media channels, the team asked players: "Please may you fill in another survey? This one is all about rounds! Which you like. Which you dislike."

That's not all they want to know, though. The Mediatonic team also asked fans to weigh in on "how many new [rounds] you expect to see each season [as it would] REALLY help shape Fall Guys moving forward" to get feedback from the community.

Developer Mediatonic took to Twitch to reveal "little chunky Sonics" in its wildly popular party game. It costs five crowns for the top and five crowns for the bottom, and is out 14th October.

Fall Guys Sonic doesn't quite look like Sonic usually does, but he does have those iconic red shoes and white gloves. He's kind of terrifying.

Fall Guys' explosive success has sparked a number of eye-catching crossovers, from Portal to Hotline Miami. Obviously Mediatonic will have to do Mario next.

Fall Guys serves up its second season on Thursday, and we've now got a good look at how the bean battle royale will evolve.

This season will have a medieval theme, so expect knights, dragons, drawbridges and siege ramps.

IGN revealed the new Knight Fever level last night, which is designed as an episode-opening level for which 75 per cent of players will qualify. It looks tough - and is designed to be. Developer Mediatonic has described it as a "skill check" for players who were breezing through levels by the end of season one.

Fall Guys' second season will land next week, on Thursday 8th October.

Developer Mediatonic announced the date this afternoon, along with word that season one will perhaps unsurprisingly conclude then, too.

Season two will have a medieval theme, add new rounds "inspired by the middle ages" and obstacles such as drawbridges, giant swinging axes and siege ramps.

Fall Guys

I love a good bit of video game lore, but I absolutely hate everything about this.

Fall Guys developer Mediatonic has revealed an awful piece of concept art designed to show exactly what is going on underneath your character's suit.

At first glance, you might think a Fall Guy is simply a human in a suit. You would be wrong.
