10 years ago, Ubisoft Montreal was working on an unannounced Prince of Persia game subtitled Redemption.

Eight years ago, footage of this game was quietly posted to YouTube. And there it lay buried, under the sands of time, largely unnoticed - until today.

Today, this footage was noticed and promptly popped up on Resetera, where it quickly sparked interest in Ubisoft's long-dormant series.

FOR HONOR™

Ubisoft's online melee battler For Honor is poised to enter the third season of its third year of content on 1st August, and the publisher has shared early details of what players can expect to see when Season 3, subtitled Hulda, gets underway.

Hulda is a distinctly Viking-themed affair, introducing a new "feral warrior" clan known as the Jormungandr (Hulda being the male hero variant, and Gretar, the female). They're described as "Viking sectarians who wear their devotion to the Great Serpent", and, armed with the somewhat hilariously named War Hamarr, the clan "aims to crush the weak before Ragnarok comes, as they believe only the most worthy must remain for the Great Battle."

Those that own For Honor's current Year 3 Pass will be able to play as the Jormungandr immediately when the new season begins at 8pm BST on 1st August. All other players can access the hero from 7pm BST on 7th August, for the sum of 15,000 Steel.

FOR HONOR™

Ubisoft's third year of content for multiplayer melee fighter For Honor is now underway on Xbox One, PS4, and PC, bringing with it a new hero, a new map, and more.

According to Ubisoft's recent deep dive video, the Year of the Harbinger (as this third year is known) will be "doing things a little differently", featuring a somewhat darker tone than usual. Year 3 will, once again, consist of four "seasons" spread throughout 2019, with the first and current season, Vortiger, set to run until the end of April. Season 2 stretches from May to July, Season 3 runs from August to October, and the final season begins in December. A special Hallowe'en event is planned for October.

Those logging into For Honor today, however, can enjoy the first round of promised additions to the game, including hero reworks for the Shoguki, Warlord, and Peacekeeper, a new map - known as Harbor, and featuring a port town on the shores of Lake Eitrivatnen - plus the Black Prior, a new "heavy" hero, armed with a giant kite shield and longsword.

The "Graphical Enhancements Showcase" segment of a recent livestream illustrates exactly what's been improved, which includes a major update to global illumination, updated sky tech, plus new tone mapping and colour grading, too.

Ubisoft - which started the upgrading process just after the multiplayer brawler was released - has also reworked all textures in the game.

Ubisoft's melee-focussed multiplayer brawler, For Honor, is hosting a special free "open test" weekend for its upcoming content expansion, Marching Fire - starting next week on September 6th.

More specifically, the open test will run from September 6th to September 10th, and will be available to everyone on PC, regardless of whether they currently own For Honor or not. Players can download the client ahead of time, from September 4th via Uplay.

Those that participate in the open test will have access to all 22 of For Honor's heroes, including the four new Wu Lin fighters (that's the Tiandi, Jiang Jun, Nuxia, and Shaolin) introduced as part of the Marching Fire update. Duel mode and the brand-new 4v4 PvP Breach mode - which sets opposing teams the task of either defending or storming a fortress - will be available, and all three Breach maps will be playable in PvP, PvAI, PvP, and Custom Matches.

FOR HONOR™

Ubisoft has announced a brand-new solo and co-op PvE Arcade mode for its multiplayer melee fighter For Honor, alongside news that the game is currently free to keep on Steam and via Xbox Games With Gold.

For Honor's new PvE-focussed asymmetrical Arcade mode comes to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on October 16th, as part of the game's next major expansion, Marching Fire. We already knew that Marching Fire would bring the new Wu Lin faction (and its four new fighters), alongside a new 4v4 castle siege mode known as Breach - and now we've a clearer idea of what, exactly, the previously hinted at new PvE content will entail.

According to Ubisoft, Arcade mode will allow participants - either playing solo or in teams of two via online co-op - to compete in "randomly generated combat scenarios of varying difficulty". This, says the publisher, will ensure that each experience is unique. There's a smattering of Arcade mode's new PvE action in the announcement trailer above.
