It's the week of the highly anticipated Update 14 but that's not all! Find out everything you can expect below:



5:00 - In game broadcasting of 'server downtime warning'.
7:00 - Both Horizons only and Odyssey Servers go down (update notes released via web and 'Release Tracker' style forum thread at around this time).
15:00 - Servers return. Update 14 Deployment will be live.

The Elite Dangerous 'Black Friday' event kicked off last week on November 22nd and runs through until December 5th, with Cyber Monday landing today with the release of 'Stygian' paint jobs, in the Elite Dangerous Gamestore.

There is currently up to 40% off Ship Kits and Gear Sets.
As well as up to 30% off select Paint Jobs, Cockpit Customisation, Detailing and Weapon Colours, including the return of the Midnight Black paint at a 20% discount too!
All of the Black Friday through Cyber Monday offerings are now final and present in store, so as a reminder you have until December 5th to take final advantage of them all.

HCS Voicepacks have launched their huge Black Friday sale and announced some exciting new content from their stars over the next month.

They will be travelling to the studio in LA early December to record updated content for Odyssey with William Shatner (Orion) and Brent Spiner (Vega) as well as meet two NEW stars - Claudia Christian (Ivanova from Babylon 5) and Gates McFadden (Dr Beverly Crusher from Star Trek) for some new voice packs.

In our Access to 4.0 post from August, we mentioned that future content would only be available to players on the 4.0 framework and from September we have offered access to version 4.0 to all PC users without requiring a purchase of Odyssey. On 29 November, Update 14 will bring fundamental and exciting changes to the galaxy, built upon the 4.0 framework. Additionally, from Update 14 onwards, there will be two different modes to Elite Dangerous: Live mode and Legacy Mode.


As of Update 14, version 4.0 will become the “Live” mode in which all new content and events will be introduced. Focusing development on a single version branch has already been essential to delivering content of the same calibre as the Azimuth Saga finale.

Aftermath will see its next major release with galaxy-wide implications in Update 14, with more to come in Updates 15 and 16. What we can say for now about Updates 15 and 16 is that they will both contain new content and gameplay mechanics linked to the unfolding events in the galaxy. More on this will be revealed next year.


While “Live” will continue the unfolding events of Aftermath, we understand that some of our players have fond memories of the galaxy as it stands in 3.8 and as such we will convert version 3.8 into “Legacy Mode”.

Every player will have a Legacy Commander profile created from their existing profile with separately tracked progress when Update 14 is released. Legacy mode will be accessible from the launcher as a separate download from the Live game.

Whilst there will be no new narrative content such as GalNet or Community Goals, you will still be able to affect the galaxy via the background simulation. Actions in Legacy Mode will not affect the Live game.

All cosmetics purchased prior to Update 14 will be available across both Legacy and Live versions. Moving forwards, some cosmetics may be exclusive to Live mode. These will be clearly marked as such in the store.


We understand that since we granted 4.0 access to all PC players, some Commanders have been using version 3.8 to play with friends who do not yet own Odyssey. With Update 14, Odyssey players will have the option to select either Horizons or Odyssey mode within Live Mode so that playing together remains possible.


Via our website, console players have the option to clone their Commander profiles for use on PC without needing to re-purchase the game. The introduction of Legacy Mode is going to affect what data can be copied. For this reason, the process will be temporarily suspended with the release of Update 14. To ensure that everyone has the opportunity to use the process, it will be reintroduced in Q1 next year.

The version of the process that we reintroduce will not be as comprehensive as before and will only copy the most essential profile data related to player progression. For this reason, we strongly encourage anyone considering copying their profile to do so before Update 14.

We hope this announcement has clearly explained our plans for both the Live and Legacy versions of Elite Dangerous. We are excited not just for content in Update 14 but also for what we have planned in 2023. As always, we’d love to hear your questions, comments and feedback.

GAME NEWS

On Saturday afternoon (UTC), some Commanders attempting to enter the Galaxy via Steam were facing an issue whereby their Steam login was replaced with the ‘purchase/redeem’.

• We are aware that this issue has been encountered sporadically before and primarily advise that, should it happen again in the future, that you do not take action against your account linking in order to independently fix the issue but await further information via official Elite Dangerous channels, as to when communication between Steam and the Galaxy has been restored.

Additionally, regarding Update 14, we’ll keep this note in once again, to maintain confirmation:

• Update 14 is still marked for release at the end of November. We would like to reassure you that there is no further change to this schedule as of this week and hope to release a formal date for your diary soon.

We're full throttle right now with Halloween happenings throughout the Galaxy and it's thrilling to see so very many Commanders getting well and truly in the spirit of spooky.

So let's go again! Here's welcoming you into another Monday with this week’s Discovery Scanner.

GAME NEWS:

• As mentioned in last week’s Discovery Scanner, Update 14 is marked for release at the end of November. We would like to reassure you that there is no further change to this schedule as of this week.
  
• We were made aware last week that some a number of Commanders (4.0 Horizons players specifically) encountered issues with the livery store in-game displaying "requires Odyssey" for many cosmetics, when this strictly wasn’t true.
  This issue has since been addressed, with the in-game livery store now representing items correctly.
  
• A number of reports were received around the Noctule Blight paint job, which features as part of the recent Creator Twitch Drops event for the Cobra MkIII, being unavailable in the in game livery after successfully redeeming it via Twitch.
  We took a look into this. If Commanders who are still encountering this issue could relog, this issue will now be resolved.
