The space-faring pilots of Eve Online have had quite a time with the evolving story that CCP Games cooked up for them. Those dastardly Triglavians have been throwing space wrenches in everyone’s plans for months and now the fourth quadrant (space talk for “chapter”) of the story has arrived. The Phoenix Quadrant will ask players to rebuild New Eden in the aftermath of the star wars.

Eve Online

is so closely associated with the joke about “spreadsheet” gaming that the first time I saw it years back I was genuinely surprised that it actually has pretty, 3D ships. I suppose I was expecting a very complex space-themed MUD. Well, now it’ll have an option to become that, sort of. A new graphical setting for reducing GPU load during giant space battles will remove all that pretty outer space from your view, captain, leaving only the interface full of numbers and letters.

Happy Star Wars: Squadrons day, internet. I have nothing to offer but the sneer of a veteran Elite Dangerous pilot. A disdainful scoff as you vroomify your engines in the docking bay, click-clacking your flight checks in the seat of some dusty Y-wing, some classless X-Wing, some bogus B-wing. Who do you think you are? Sitting there in the pilot’s seat of that garish tin can. Only an exponent of the foulest incorrectitudes would indulge a shipyard with all the basic-ass nomenclature of an episode of Sesame Street. Here, you fripperist, you child, gaze upon the true list of the 9 best spaceships in games.

A space capsule descends between two balls of light, surrounded by huge basalt pillars, all in space

Mega spacejerk MMO Eve Online has received a permanent cemetery installation. The site in Molea is intended partly for roleplaying purposes, but more as a space for players to pay their respects to the people they’ve lost in real life.

The space-a-thon MMO, Eve Online is wrapping up its current invasion story arc that’s taken place over the last year or so. Those pesky Triglavians have been up to no good – first they invaded and now they’ve just gotten far too powerful, and it looks like it’s up to you to deal with them once and for all – or join them and assist said invasion, up to you really. The culmination of this story kicks off today, and with it comes a big makeover for the Abyssal Proving Grounds as well.

When EVE Online starts throwing the big space-bucks around, it’s usually because two or more interstellar empires came to blows. Colossal battles demolishing entire armadas, grand acts of subterfuge that leave once-thriving corporations penniless. But after player-built Citadels started falling into disrepair last week, pilots are making serious bank by scrapping neglected stations – with one scavenger netting a tidy 4 trillion ISK after digging up some of New Eden’s rarest goodies.

Since their introduction in 2016, citadels have defined the cut-throat politics of EVE Online. Wars are now centred on slugfests like the Battle for X47L-Q, as Keepstar citadels provide insurmountable defences against all but the most determined force. But developers CCP now reckon there are too many of these unassailable bastions floating about unguarded. With this week’s Forsaken Fortress update, it’s time to let these structures rot.

Space conniving sim Eve Online will round off celebrations for its 17th birthday by bringing an end to the Invasion update with a massive invasion.

Newbie void villains, the Triglavians, have been vaguely menacing players for almost a year, but they’re about to arrive in force, starting a war with regular space that players can join on either side. The outcome of all this will depend on players, and according to CCP, it’ll have lasting consequences on the game’s playable space.

When the historians of the future cast their cyber-eyes over the deluge of stupidity we encrusted upon the primitive internet, they will see that our fables, our moral storytelling, was mostly conducted with flashing colours and double-jumps. Yes, videogames have adopted the moralistic finger-wagging of fairytales and Victorian novels, for better or for worse. They have taught us a lot about ourselves and our place in the world. Here are 13 of the “best” moral lessons from PC games. Yes, you may take notes.
